too little too late?
It’s a small step towards success, but it will definitely not fix the game. It is boring and uneventful right now.
I dont know why they opted conquest instead of deathmatch.. you already have capture-the-points in wvwvw, why again? You would think people that join spvp are there to.. kill people in a match of skill and dexterity without having to worry about capturing places and guarding them.
Because when they tried different modes during testing they found that in deathmatch people would just avoid combat and run away till all their abilities like ultimate skills were up so they could guarantee a win.
Think Ele, Thief and Mesmer are bad now? Imagine not even being able to get a fight until they knew they could faceroll with everything up.
Conquest promotes fighting even when people aren’t necessarily ready.
If we had deathmatch and no respawning people wouldn’t fight until all cooldowns were up.
But with conquest if you see your point is going to get neutralised and you know you need to keep it to win the game, you are compelled to dive in and have a fight to delay that happening, even if all your skills weren’t ready and you can’t guarantee the outcome of the fight.
Deathmatch makes people selfish and boring, conquest promotes more teamplay and thinking of the big picture.
If you just want to kill people and not guard points then you can play that role in conquest as a teams roamer. Nothing is stopping you except yourself.

Great post. It almost made me forget how mind numbingly boring conquest mode is. But I guess I’m alone in that. Spvp is flourishing, afterall. Right?

It doesn’t matter what the problem was with other game modes IMO. Conquest is downright boring and they should have figured out a way to make other modes work. I still think they should make other modes work, because conquest isn’t doing kitten for them(alongside twenty other problems).
Why don’t you offer up ideas rather than pure negativity.
Constructive criticism rather than I don’t like X.
Counterpoint Ezrael: The same happened in GW1 RA, so people knew to bring snares.
Judging by the forums that strategy seems to be going really well vs Elementalists, Mesmers and Thieves ability to disengage from a losing fight and come back when ready.
yea i knew it wasn’t a very strong argument
anyway we’ll see how this new “moving objective” conquest will turn out. It sounds more dynamic and less stand around.

So instead of noticing that their skill balance was off, they decided to go for a different game mode. Can’t say I see the logic in it…
Deathmatch makes people selfish and boring
I’m guessing you didn’t play GW1 then. There was nothing boring about the death matches in Heroes’ Ascent, and people are only selfish if it is rewarding to be selfish. For example, if your individual efforts would not give you any glory / points, and only the group effort did, everyone would do what’s best for the group.
