u know, I realized something
I thought the problem was that these super tanky elite specs are the ones dishing out uber, out of line, crazy op damage.
Zerker specs hit hard too, but vs the tanky specs its more like a wet noodle. Meanwhile, zerkers without that tankiness easily eat dirt.
you’re talking about some cele stuff
maybe cele druid or necros
the point holders i’ve ran into deal enough dmg to comfortably drive off a zerker build
but they can perpetuated a fight forever against a zerker and another cele
tank revs, scrappers, tempests and even some necros can stall a 2v1 forever
I’ve ran into a tempest who literally spammed laugh as I tried to kill him with hammer rev
i’m just saying the damage we consider op might not be as over the top as we think
u have to look at things from top down where builds are utilized to their full potential
The problem is actually more complex than you seem to think. The meta gets tanky because the damage is high. If you play a thief or a shatter mesmer, you die too fast. So you have to reroll or go tankier.
High damage favors cele/bruiser, or the few classes than can sustain massively despite their offensive amulet (rev, scrapper, etc…).
So yes: power creep => tank meta. Reduce the absurd AOE damage and people will start playing more offensively.
no…meta is tanky because builds are tankier
they have more sustain
you can have a power ranger or thief, without counter pressure, go all in on the tanks
and still not able to kill them
tempest ele, tank rev, scrappers or even tank mesmers can permanently sustain against old meta dps ( once again, it’s WITHOUT counter pressure)
and the tanks don’t even have to be top tier, 1 or 2 days of practice and they’re good to go
