“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
Yeah this is very discouraging… I had someone last night that I was playing with on a low pop server it came to just us and she proclaimed easily “I’m noob only played twice” So I said okay lets duel… I am a bunker guard you are a thief it should be a good learning experience… So we did had a good time the fight went on for awhile… She was using traps and I told her the snare trap isn’t exactly the best in my experience but she did quite well…
Next match another thief joined in and he had an idea of what he was doing since she was a self proclaimed “noob” I asked the other thief to duel when I started winning he ran and I just thought “well guess that means I win”. He comes back and starts insta-gibbing the other player without the respectful “dueling mentality” So I joined in his little game everytime he got her down (made sure to stay out of it til then so the new player could get some learning) I would jump in and take him out because he wasn’t being a very respectful player in the sense that everytime he downed her he would come with mean things to say… So I gave him a taste of his medicine… Long story short it seems there are more players with his mentality then mine of trying to encourage new players… Even if I go down in a 3v1 I just /say yayyy so fun… Trying to be a little smart elic but in a nice way… People seem to be too full of themselves and honestly that is why the PvP community is dying… A game is fun based off the people you play with… and a lot of people are soo full of how good they perceive themselves to be that they are just not fun to play with or against…
Anyways. Thoughts and Comments?
Man up and prove them wrong oooooor…Uninstall.
But seriously, if you are playing casually, why do you care what others on the internetz think about you?

It’s not that people care what others think… Playing with a bunch of trash talkers is never ever fun whether you are winning or losing. Most could care less what someone says but like it or not having fun depends on the people you play with and against… If any of them are flat out jerks the fun factor goes down.. And having fun is the most important thing for a casual..

For better or worse, trash talking has always been part of pvp.
If your modesties haven’t the craft to ignore the publics then you should consider adjusting your chat options, because trash talking is here to stay.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all. [/quote]
This is something to be expected in any pvp in any online game, except for the extremely small games.
Some people play pvp just to feel superior, and unfortunately they also express those feelings to the other players, or, as denial does it’s job, they blame team members for a loss. I’ve also done the blame game once or twice on some bad days, before I re-re-remember that negative feedback doesn’t help anyone improve in a game, and that I am part of the team, not just the person who supposedly “caused” the loss.
I don’t see any way to avoid these kinds of players in pvp as pvp is all about winners and losers. Sportsmanship gets thrown out the window frequently when there are winners vs losers and random players from all over.
A large post on the forums would probably just be preaching to the choir. People who don’t care won’t change.
I just switch to a different chat log tab or go to a different room if things get nasty.
EDIT: I split up a paragraph to make it more readable
I can’t imagine anyone talking trash in a hot join not being bad too.
One day you and/or your friends will be much better than them, and you won’t feel the need to harass new players. Good for you.

Honestly, in any MMO I’ve played with pvp, I can’t recall a single time someone threw those kinds of gaming slurs around and was actually a good player.
So just kill them and play on.
My advice: Ignore it and keep playing. As you fall for the taunt, you will get frustrated or angry. So you have to find a way to take the insults calmly and move on.
If you make a mistake, kitten happens, keep going. Mistakes happen at every level, though the frequency may vary.
And hotjoiners insulting is hilarious due to what level is showcased there compared to tPvP.
I just think that if people need to do that to make them feel good about their lives. Let them enjoy it.
If you don’t like, turn off chat in pvp, in hotjoin, no one is going to say anything positive or constructive.

You still have to take responsibility for your actions. So one has to consider how the other party feels about some action, word, phrase and so on.
Toxic community needs to be fixed, to accomplish this I suggest we ban Natty again. But in all seriousness when people start harming how another player feels about their skill level in a rather blunt and rude manner that player is less likely to stay around. With the current numbers in sPvP I really hope people wise up and start thinking how they can help instead of how “superior” this makes them feel. I’d rather have more people to play with/against than to be the King of an abandoned land.

A good frame of mind that I hope others would pick up on.
There is just that much patience you can have…it’s mainly Anet faul for implementing ( ONCE AGAIN ) a fail system like mixed rank tournament.
It was the same in GW1, a bunch of rank hero 3 against full GvG/r12 team..after 2 years of course the PvP scene in GW1 was over, because people got tired of being steamrolled everytime( as a consequence those r7+ sitting in the middle never got the chance to reach r9 as there was nobody to play HA anylonger..ty Anet).
And for the last time not every solo player is a noob, many of use have become solo players after their guilds disbanded one after the other, is it really that hard to have solo/team tournament?
Honestly how can you ever hope to improve as team if you keep fightning low rank newbs?
Get some thicker skin.

There’s nothing wrong with reporting for verbal abuse, if it’s really that serious. If it’s just annoying but not really abusive, right click —> ignore, or disable map chat.
when people kill me i verbally assault myself.
i normally say “i should go back to wow” or something
CoD/Halo era kiddie mentality basically, just ignore them OP. Every true competitive player knows that you learn most from your losses and you should never badmouth your opponent, regardless of their skilllevel.
For example, I’m always thrilled in very close good matches, even if it ends us losing badly, but at the same time I learned a lot and got a great experience. I don’t like matches where we absolutely dominate the other team, because it basically results in both of us not having fun, they feeling demoralized and us not getting any good feedback on how we did as a team.
Anyways, just ignore that console kiddie type bs, those are just try-hards who can’t compensate themselves in any other way.
Being an elitist doesnt mean being a jerk, and it doesnt mean badmouthing people. Being an elitist means you are always doing your best and only want the best. It means you strive to be above the people who are above average.
Elitists who are jerks are being jerks because they are just jerks. Did that possibility ever cross your mind? I guess not.
tl;dr
Being an elitist doesnt make you a jerk. You are a jerk no matter what and most elitists arent jerks.
“ur bad” If you are bad then why does this bother you?
“l2p” If you dont fully understand the game and are holding people back because of this, then perhaps you actually DO need to learn to play.
“noob” If you are making noob mistakes and playing like a noob then you ARE a noob.
Its human nature to establish hierarchies, to categorize people and to label things. Its how we identify our position in comparison with an ever changing society of peers that arent equals.
If someone is insulting you then get over it.
An elitist being a jerk doesnt mean all elitists are jerks, it just means that individual is a jerk. Grow up.

One person attacks the OP by calling him unskilled. Someone else retaliates, and so the nasty cycle begins again. It is kind of ironic that this happened in a thread trying to point out and fix such happenings.
2013 and people still complain about pvp trash talk? lmao
Do not play DOTA. EVER.
I find it sad that people all over this game are making others more than uncomfortable with their use of slurs – more than trolls, these people go on and on about the state of the instance they are in (spvp and tourney more than WvW or pvE) about how bad one or more players are doing.
Then you have those who stand around in spvp/tourney games and when you report them – and doing so because someone has been standing there MUCH longer than a “bio break” – one is WARNED in the game that your account could be banned because you are doing what is supposed to be done… reporting those who don’t play.
Unlike other games, this one doesn’t give more than just the option to “block” those who are abusive, but when they are in the instance or pvp game you are in, it’s harder to impossible to ignore the player (there’s always “say” if you block them directly and they are close enough for you to view their text…)
This game needs more protection from those who are here not just to complain, but to disrupt by words or by inaction.
My “gaming” is more physical therapy than anything else – and for those who aren’t disabled and trying to keep hands working and minds less than dull, it is a hard thing day after day to try to keep up ; we don’t need the added stress of those who are abusive heaped on top of what is already a challenging “thing” to do for many.
Ok so can somone enlighten me on this? I never really understood the elitist perspective.
My RL friends who never really play sPvP all that much decided it’d be fun to jump into some hot joins. I hot join and they join my game inprogress.
having a few decent looking skins from paids since they have occasionaly jumped in and got a daily with a tpvp ticket earlier in the year they don’t look like tottal scrubs, thanks to the ticket = chests.
Every so often we run into some jerk who just calls one of us (even me at times) a noob on death, even if it was a 3v1 kind of gank or a hard counter to our current build. Also often told at times to l2p or uninstall, and they get discouraged by this behavior and have no real mentality to nurture their pvp abillity and makes them want to PvE for life.
Now I can handle such things better, like focusing them and not giving them any repreave, and if they do happen to be genuinely better I take it as a learning experiance, I watch for things I need to try to wait out counter or doge in the future and grow as a player.
My friends on the other hand don’t have the same mentality atleast for this.
I never really understood the mentality for this. I myself do get a sick pleasure from “pwning zee nuuubs” since at times I’ll face roll a baddie without even trying and yeah hes genuenly bad, and yeah it did feel kinda good… But usually my first reaction to that is “good fight” and usually meet their own discouragment if they have any like “hahaha I suck” with my own reply of “you’ll get better.” occasionally I’ll add a tip to help them beat me.
But the discouragment aside. The fallacy I see is that.
“L2P or Get on my level” = Well if someone is playin the game to begin with and you obviously play it more or are more talented isn’t said person playing the game in itself trying to learn? (I get “L2P” when someone cries “OP!” when somthing is clearly not.)
“uninstall” = So… someone is not as good as you therefor they should uninstall and not play the game and give up on trying to become better?
and back to the discouragement side of things:
“ur bad, ur trash, noob” = a basic stated fact the player is obviously attempting to over come, and is frankly rude and discouraging to low level of play.
Are all these people just trolls looking for a reaction? or are they serious? Either way I don’t think it’s healthy to build a pvp community espeshally a dwindling one.
I guess other than trolls who will always stay small, you’d think an elitist would want to make it to a higher tier of play. There was a situation a while back where a top player in LoL was being a jerk to a lot of people, and he got kicked out because Riot didn’t want someone like that representing their game, and no one would want to keep sponsering someone like that for streams unless they got an ungodly amount of views. Wouldn’t Arena-net most likely considering their rules take a simular perspective to this, thus being an kitten = go no where? I mean as far as I can tell our current top teams don’t seem to be all that stuck up, then again they probubly don’t care about the lower tier, but shouldn’t that be an example?
Anyways. Thoughts and Comments?
imho People just need some humble pie and should either nuture or ignore noobs.
TL;DR: if your not interested don’t bother
my english is bad sorry.
2013 and people still complain about pvp trash talk? lmao
You think it’s funny?
Apparently you just ‘ignore’ it or don’t even notice it… or maybe you even create it, but you can’t say that it doesn’t have a thing to do with the state of the game.
Respect of other persons SHOULD be the norm on the net but people aren’t educated enough EVEN NOW in 2013 – we’re degrading, not lifting ourselves…
The decline of American society can be seen even in games.
Just ignore the trash talkers, theres really no way to get rid of em.
I’ve noticed a few PMs, like, “wut a nub” or “L2P scrub go, play X spec or GTFO” something stupid after a few close fights or i beat them a bunch to only die after a 2v1 or something.
Oh right then they immediately click ignore after the tell…
A bit ironic, since, you know, they are attempting to flame a guy and make him feel bad about himself, yet screaming that they are too insecure to take a response…
Aaaaaaaaanyways, GW2 used to have a pretty great community, I know a half dozen months ago when i used to play allot there were soooo many cool guys floating around, now it’s really off and on.

Once you’ve learned how to kill in hotjoin, go to tournaments. Ask ranked players what’s your class role, where to go, what to do. If you do this, they will see that you are a beginner, but also realise that you are eager to learn, so you aren’t a PvE noob.
This way they won’t be mad at you for ruining their game, and you will start a joruney to be a better player. (mostly)
You will learn your class role, where to go, and hopefully other’s roles. When do they need help and when not. What’s more important at the moment, captureing or killing svanir? Rush guild lord or hold points? When do communing buffs spawn? Things like this. Once you know the basics of your class, try out some others for a short time, so you will know their weakness.
Fear The Crazy [Huns]
I love it when someone makes the mistake of getting gobby. They then get my undivided attention until they rage log… which is almost always.
If I’m on thief I ensure it’s 2,2,2,2 that kills them, on engi I make sure it’s 100nades, etc. Just to ensure the maximum veign-busting rage takes place on their part.
This happened to me recently too. It was a 2 v 1 defend and a thief comes up out of the blue while i’m already pretty much dead and starts heartseeking his heart out. I go down. Thief says “noob”
Thief says “noob”
Thief says “noob”
I thought it was very strange and told him the game has an age restriction. Then proceeded to kill him multiple times the next game.
There is both sides of this. I rarely rage or even get angry, but I know players who simply looking for something to blame when they are losing. These players have kid mentality and usually ruining experience for others.
But also there are players who are bad and wont accept advice or listen. Like 2 or 3 days ago I solo q and nobody in team is saying anything. So I call henge, and I say to others to go keep. Well match started I rush to henge, and one of my teammates is going after me. So we both are standing on henge, and first thing that crossed my mind was, this is just someone who is new to tournies and usually played spvp where everyone just circle around and cap. I explain him there is no reason for 2 people to stand on node especially since no enemy came.
Next match I get teamed with same guy. This time I talk a bit more and explain one person should go henge, and again nobody call it so I said that I’m gonna take henge and others go keep. Same thing happened. As soon as I enter in circle I see the same dude running towards me. Worst thing is I saw last game he was rank 18. Somewhere in the middle of match we are getting owned btw, we downed enemy necro and I’m going for the stomp, he fears me and guess what my team mate doing… hes autoattacking downed player with staff (btw he was also necro). So after fear is done I run again and stomp. Now I understand that I’m dealing with level 18 player who don’t know how to stomp, don’t have any tactical knowledge of this game, and what is worst don’t wanna take any advice. Irony of the things was, 3rd game in a row I play against him, and my team wins like 500: 20 or something. And this show you how one player can make you lose badly, which is not nearly as bad as how attitudes of some players are just sad.
PVP is competitive, competitive games bring out the worst in people~

Some people just can’t feel good if others don’t feel bad.
I think it’s lack of value for empathy, patience, and accountability. That or it’s Pop-Tarts fault. That instant gratification wave of tech from the 80/90s really hosed up the last few waves of kids.
Nothing you can do. You only notice it because you wouldn’t do it to someone else. Just take some small comfort in that and then get back to focusing on the match/game.
Those s’mores poptarts are REALLY good tho.

Sometimes people just rage which is understandable. Sometimes however people are just trolls and that is what the ignore list is for. Those who actively just want to argue/be rude are usually lacking something in their real life and that leads them to try and feel big on the internet as they are feeling pathetic in their real lives.

“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
when i first joined pvp and i insulted a thief once and i felt pretty bad, since then i haven’t done it at all
in spvp (hotjoins mostly) a lot of people tend to insult others when killing them (i suppose it’s an ego boost of a sort), honestly the best revenge is specifically seeking them out and killing them
Notalkingplz (PvE/Spvp) – Guardian
Rough Trade (PvE)/Urok Ashpaw (Spvp) – Engineer
Your options are:
1) Report for verbal abuse (right click on them, it’s an option).
2) Turn off /say chat in hotjoins (click on the little drop-down arrow beside “Main” chat)
3) Add them to ignore list. There’s only a small number of sPVP trolls, but they have big mouths. After a few rounds and a few names on your ignore list you’ll notice that sPVP is very fun.
Anet really needs to disable /say chat from opposing teams in PVP.
Its human nature to establish hierarchies, to categorize people and to label things. Its how we identify our position in comparison with an ever changing society of peers that arent equals.
Saying something is “Human Nature” is making excuses for bad behavior. Just because something is in my nature (i.e. my first response/thought) doesn’t make it wise or intelligent.
The way that some people behave in games is just sad, I feel sorry for them. Their lives must really be terrible for them to feel the need to verbally abuse random strangers. It’s the same old bully mentality that has always and sadly will always exist.
The sPVP/tPVP side of this game is kind of failing right now it seems and attitudes like that discourage the current player base from coming and participating which could possibly help to revive it. I realize that it’s not going to change, I don’t expect it to. My skin is thick enough I can take it, I enjoy all aspects of this game and somebody with a chip on their shoulder isn’t going to ruin my fun. But it’s kind of sad that a little bit of kindness and civility is to much to ask from people.

… i basically feel like the game is so full of ‘ez mode, copy-and-paste cheese builds’ that many of the remaining players are people of weak character who enjoy running new players into the ground (with little or no skill involved) and then talking trash. My guess is, most of the players who like a fair fight (or dare to do anything original/not OP) left a long time ago, and now cowardly trolls with no honor generally rule over the spoils
Trash talk is a sign that a game still has some life left in it.
It’s mostly dumb kids, but even I do it at times when I’m caught with my pants down like say I just killed someone and all skills are on cd and I am at 10% then some guy comes and I almost kill him but then make a mistake and die In my rage I may call someone bad.

I agree with this for the most part there is so much cheese that goes on like 5 bunker guards or 5 mes/thief. I have two 80 mesmers its all I have ever played now that its flavor of the month I can feel a nerf coming so I choose to change class going ranger cause everyone talks about how bad they are wvw/spvp I aim to prove them wrong.
I rock spvp now just need to get to 80 so i can show them how its done there.

5 bunker, or 5 mes/thief would get rofled by a real team. I cant say ive ever had trouble fighting a group composed like that.
With 5 bunker guards its crazy with all the hammer knock back shields and healing you can’t kill anyone and they just sit on point. And with 5 mes thief every time you down someone they hit mass invis or shadow refuge and revive them so you end up having to fight what equals 2x the number.

Trash talk has been around about in pvp since there has been pvp. That said, I think its particularly bad on this game partly due to massive imbalance between classes pvp wise coupled with the fact that other than 1 shotting people and talking kitten about it there is no incentive for top players. Honestly to me if I’m in a good fight be it 1v1 or whatever and I lose if you talk some smack its cool. I had a good time, lost by a bit, and the person that beats me gets a little shot in. What bothers me is when I die to some 3v1 when 2 of them are playing some op fotm class or build that is a devs golden child and will never be nerfed and I get told to “L2P”. Unfortunately in this game the latter is usually the case and that is why lately gw2 has been on the screen less and less.
2013 and people still complain about pvp trash talk? lmao

yea i think it’s funny. And it has nothing to do with america, go play any global online game and it’s the same. grow up and grow some thicker skin or stick to hello kitty online.
btw go hang in DC and watch some of the chess competitions, non-stop trash talking. Chess is really going downhill.
you know i really wish people would trash talk me when they kill me.
i really miss it.. its sad when no one does and i have to tell myself that i suck and should l2p and/or uninstall
I rarely ever get trash talk in the game. Usually it comes from my own team when I’m manning the trebuchet and can’t attack everywhere at once. I’ve actually complemented people I’ve fought against before. I once fought a thief who, despite being surrounded by my turrets, managed to use their evasion skills so perfectly timed that they manage to avoid nearly all of the control effects. I still downed them, but I just had to say what a nice job they did.
But this is a well documented phenomena in games. Among the people who play PVP just for fun and entertainment are those who play PVP for.. .something else. Sometimes it is to get their frustrations out by lashing out. Sometimes it is to massage their over-inflated ego. Either way, you end up with someone who doesn’t play nice. Their intention in the game is to hurt other people, and are more concerned that they are beating someone else than they are with having fun or achieving the goal of the game. Their playstyle is usually awkward, and will do strange things like focus on only a single player throughout the whole match, much like bullying and harassment IRL. This is because at the end, they are concerned only with someone else losing. Unfortunately most stereotypes about them are false: No, they are not all bad players or no lifes or little kids. They range the gambit from 8 year old kids to middle-aged mothers.
Ultimately they are destructive to the game they play. Their aggression drives away people who play for fun because it isn’t fun anymore. Their aggression causes other players to sink to their level, perpetuating the cycle of angst. These two combined form the inevitable life cycle of PVP in games, and I have seen it happen in several games. Some MMOs, some merely online:
#1: A new game comes out with PVP in it, and people play it a lot.
#2: These angry players build up in number and drive away regular players.
#3: Eventually the PVP becomes only these angry players, and becomes very small.
#4: The lack of a diversified PVP audience causes the angry players to leave and head to a new game.
#5: Repeat 1-4 ad infinitum.
Frankly I think any game with PVP should have serious punishments for this kind of behavior, since it is bad on a business level. Even if any single player doesn’t mind the idiocy, the other people that unnamed player plays with do, and once they’re gone it isn’t fun anymore. People shouldn’t ever be encouraged behave this way, since it bleeds into real life and you end up with something like ocean marketing.
I have noticed that often the L2p-shouters play FOTM classes and builds. E.g. this D/D ele was shouting for about 3 sPvP matches how everyone is a noob and bad and should learn to play. Then at the 4th match we were on different teams.
Playing on my engi and having “few” hours put to ele myself, I was wiping the floor with him. And said on the chat that for a guy who talks so much trash I thought you were gonna be harder than this. Then the guy ragequit
But idiots are everywhere and in the internet they become more idiotic by the minute. Once they get their kittens kicked in real life for being a kitten they learn.
