Despite all the wait, it was legitly a really fun paid tournament for some strange reason. I think it may have been the fact that the community actually got the paid queue to pop. Props to Sat for trying so hard while I was slaying dragons in PvE.
I really dont think its the price of the paid tournies … if u got a team u can farm tickets really easy -.- .
Today with my team we waited 1h for a q to pop in paids … we got bored we went to frees.
Paid tournies shd have a schedule more than just 8 teams register.
The entry fee is not balanced for all premades = therefore only TOP teams can attend. And there is not enough TOP teams so they started to leave paids as well.
Simply fix = balance entry fee or increase rewards in FREE tournaments. Its just not right that you have to win 5 tournaments = at least 3-4 hour. And then you can enter 1 paid tournament.
bu since im telling this for 2 months allready, i dont think anything will be changed.. not yet..
this is so ridiculous. we are sitting in the mist for 2 1/2 hours 4/8 for paids. im literally begging everyone to make a group for 1 paid tournament.
im happy for class ballance and what not. but on a serious side we want real games all day.
waiting 1-2-3 months doesnt make sence. all you have to do is listen to one of the simple ideas that take no time to implement. lower cost of paids. add advanced so we play full groups not random pugs, but please do something this is to much work.
if you lower the cost for other ppl i will pay the difference for them if you make it possible.

Have you ever played SWtOR? The PvP there wasn’t global, so only server-specific, then, you needed to farm a Char through PvE (which I hate) for 1-2 Weeks before even being able to play high-level PvP and it wasn’t possible to transfer Chars between Servers. I was on a very low-pop Server for months, where you couldn’t play ANY PvP at all 90% of the day. I couldn’t change servers with my Chars, cuz you couldn’t transfer and I didn’t want to start from scratch on another Server and I even paid monthly for that game.
Just to put your “grief” into perspective and paint a little picture on why I don’t see that as a big Problem. ^^’
There will be a natural decline in players until the big e-Sport Features come along, because ppl are spoiled from games they played or are playing atm that have these “basic” pvp-features and more, because they were around for years.
I do think though, that GW2 is a superior game to most of the competitors and just lacks these features, so once they are in place, ppl should return back.
On the other Hand, I do think it’s kinda bad from ANet to artificially split the PvP-community even further apart and make the pools for games smaller, when it’s 100% sure that they’ll loose players until January/february. With paids getting a much smaller player-pool because of the cost, it could be a good idea to reduce the cost a bit….
Gnaa – its not a matter of the costs. Really – every seriously interested player for paid has enough tickets. The problem is the long waiting time. I even dont think its a problem to get stomped by really good teams – but then you have to wait another 1-2 hours for your next try. So … instead of waiting and standing around these guys just go for free pvp (as i do), because they want to play, not to wait.
If you lower the costs, then everybody would join the paid and noone would participate the free tournaments. And you dont really want everybody to join paid … cause then there wouldnt be a sense for seperation between free and paid.
We all know why there are few players.
And even if it is sad, but IMHO GW2 will never recover from ANets faults. Sure, some guys will come back – but i doubt that the active pvp community will grow with factor 5 or more. Everything else would be insufficient.

Tell me then? Because im pretty sure its the price that is not allowing more premades to join. And the waiting time is direct result of it while it is producing another leaving teams who are not interesting in waiting.
Im not saying that we should decrease the entry fee.. but also increasing rewards in free could be an option. In fact since we dont have any matchmaking free and paids could be easy way how to separate PUG and solo players from PREMADES. And thats i thought was the initial idea in having two types of tournaments. But i think its going to fail due to PAY to PLAY – you can buy ticket for money.. why dont you do that? Thats the reason reactions are so slow.. Anet is getting money out of it.. real money..

Maybe you guys play on NA ?
On EU side, evry evening till 2AM the paids are up. Sometime even longer.
and there are 2 or 3 paids at the same time.
About tickets, evry team that is doing paids evryday shouldnt have any problems with tickets.
There are more ways to get tickets then actualy " buy gems" attitude this guy have.
ArenaNET has gived you the:
1) Crafting tickets ,
2) Gems rewards from Paids to buy Tickets,
3) Exchange gold into Gems and buy Tickets.
I’ve been doing paids since begining of them and i have never crafted or exchanged gold into gems.
Oh and guess what, i have 5k gems too.
My idea is, the cost is not high for any dedicated team. The problem is creating teams require work, time, shedules, practice evryday, etc etc. Wich is a bit hard to do or not evryone has the same dedication for it.
Also the most important stats like: how many killing strikes, how many points captured, how many neutrals, how many kills, how many deaths, how much damage, damage per second, how much healing and so on are not shown at all, wich once again make it harder for players to improve themself easyer.
Streams are so limited, there are very few teams that actualy stream, and the important things in streams are usualy “muted”, hided whatever.
You will have to understand that:
A-net has gived us a promising start and game, we have to work to get it more popular too. Be it fan pages, Be it draging your pve, wvw buddys into pvp and so on.
We need to give constructive modifications that we as players thing are going to improve our ingame time.
About paids, i can assure you that the players or teams in paids have incrased latly.
Wich is a good thing, but YOU, ME, HIM, the players have to help too.

Just wondering one question.. do you feel 2-3 tournaments at same time is good? I mean thats 24 teams playing.. rest is locked or can´t do what you do. I know lot of teams that want to go paid, but can´t.
As you said, its about dedication, and of course there are teams that can practice and play every day. but average player .. well i think we play like 2-3 hours in like 2-3 evenings in a week?

I want to play tournaments! I got headsets etc, played all classes to understand their mechanics, build my warrior spec so I can even alternate between medium damage shout heal build and all out CC support build DURING the match.
But for weeks on end I have been trying to find a team to play in tournament with, free or paid, I have 119 tickets in my bank…..
Please PLEASE make this more accessable
Edit: As a suggestion; a list you can submit in that you a LFG for a tourney group at the tournament NPC, this way pug team compositions, although not as effective as other teams that came in beforehand, can find eachother and at least expirience tPvP, for free for instance, gives a window for people to go and try tourney’s.

this game is to good to be bad. the devs know were frustrated and they know ppl are quitting.
so whatever they are doing to fix it im sure will fix the problem.
last night showed that ppl really do want this game to be fun. when everyone stepped up and we had a paid map chat pug tournament. i cant wait to have fun games all day err day.

Maybe players don’t like the current meta ( few viable builds, always burst-roamer-bunker + random necro).
Maybe we want rankings, because the QPs board is absolutely irrilevant in terms of showing how skilled a team is ( meaning most players have no real competitiveness interest in joining paids).
Maybe paids rewards are not very good to begin with, and even more since there’s a very big possibility you’ll get stomped in the first match by more experienced teams ( this showing how difficult is to learn how to play as a team in this game for newbies).
Maybe , and this is only the last on the list of my concerns, the subscription fee is too high.
The day aNet starts answering those questions you’ll have tons of players playing paids ( and i’ll be one of them for sure), don’t worry.
I think the rewards are fine, but it’s may be good to also add an invitation for the teams that win a free, to join a paid. example: my team win a free, then other that the chest and the ticket, we earn a free invitation to join a paid that can be used only in that time
i dont care about qp or about subscripton fee and i really dont care about rewards.
i want competition thats it i want to play against really good teams all day. i dont want to play scrubs.
i play to kitten on ppl that is all the reward i need.
but the reason teams are breaking up and ppl are quitting is there is only 3 hours a day when this high lvl of play can be obtained and during that 3 hours of play only 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours is actually utilized. and everyone cant wait around all day for that hour and if you do wait around for 23 hours and you lose…. now you just wasted everyones time and ppl rage

I’m happy that you’re playing simply because you want to play, and feel the competitiveness.
but you also have to understand not everyone out there is like you, neither thinking like you.
Without rankings, some people may think "if i’m the best, why does nobody know about how good i am ? " ( calling BS on QP leaderboards, because it is indeed not a good proff of a player skill).
Moreover, there’s a very steep difference between pro teams and newbies who want to learn the basic team rules, and going into paids ( and even more in free tourneys, where basically you face 80% pugs and that 20% against premades is not really helping your growth as a player).
Even more, the current meta revolves around bunkering-roaming + necro+ rez signets abuse, and is actually very stagnant.
Last, but not least, there’s no way to really know how much you contributed to the game: no heal stats, no damage, nothing.
Match this with a flawed point rewarding system, and you can easily understand how hard it to evaluate a player, or even your own performances.
All those things are driving away people desire to join the competitive side of this game, and a lot of them just think they’d better facerolling noobs in hotjoin instead of not having fun in tourneys.
As far as I can tell there are very few organised teams. And of those teams, there are very few that want to do paids. So the waiting time is insane and this just drives other potential paid teams away. In Sea of Sorrows, Sydney time about 9pm-11pm, all tournament modes are dead and you have about 10 servers running close to full on 8/8 hotjoin. The 5/5 you might have maybe another 8 servers, typically 4-7 players/10. That is the state of the game at the moment on my server. This ship is half sunk already, gonna take a miracle to bring it back.

The game is having trouble getting teams interested in the game… forcing an entry fee to even compete isn’t going to help that at all.
I’ve just found the PvP dull, but getting pub stomped in paid, and paids being the only way to really get matched with competent teams/players to practice… I mean short of the other option of grinding through frees which forces you to wade threw pugs for hours until you find other guys of similar skill doing the same.

That and just having the tournies give better rewards the more wins you get against higher ranked enemies, it would do wonders… just scrap the entire paid tourny system and put together ‘ranked play’ with near ironman style victories… it would be marvelous.
Free/paids is an utterly terrible concept.
A notable bar of entry and utterly random match making in the ‘I want to play/practice against competent people’ part of a game is just bad…
Yet to use a ranking system in that, to bracket people up and form tourny groups with similiar skilled people is just BAD. It’d create tournies where lower ranked people would play and win their qualifying points for just getting a few lucky plays while highers up would have to duke it out with the other best players out there for the same reward…

Qualifier points for winning the normal group v group instancing is a TERRIBLE idea.
It doesn’t help that the vast majority of the PvP gear looks like trash.

yeah i agree but so does johnathon sharp. he said they are putting a system in that will show are stats like how much dps we did a game or how much healing.
(its just going to be hard to calculate all my dmg a game seeing how i do over 35billion dmg when i enter a group fight)
but if you know our teams we change the meta weekly and we force other teams to counter it. if there is more teams the meta will always be diff because everyone will make diff teams and run diff strats.
we just need to find a way to get more teams playing and asking them to form a team then pay 5 tickets to get slaughtered doesnt seem to be the best approach. yes thats what all the top teams now went through but we all lost a lot of good friends because of it.

as i and others have said they need to remove tournaments except for end of month/year occasions. Rest of the time it should be straight up 5v5, single match, with a ladder. Top 20 teams on ladder at end of month go into a pool based best-of-3 round robbin (5 pools, 4 teams per pool), winner of each pool and a 3 wild cards go to 8 team seeded bracket. nuff said.
And I don’t even do paids but this is how it should be and then have a separate solo queue system for pug 5v5, single map matches with harsh penalties for leaving and more bonus for winning, and leave hot join as the kittenty system it is.
