Q:
what is the point
It’s always been this way. Even in gw1, gear didn’t matter as much. In gw2, you pick your weapons, you pick your skills and traits, pick your amulet, and pick your sigils. Then, you are good to go.
Gw2, is a rare game where you can just pvp if that’s all you want to do, and you’ll be fine. If you want pvp, where gear matters alot more, go to world vs world, or join an active dualing arena in someone’s guild hall.
In spvp, unless your talking about how one looks, gear doesn’t matter. Skill and knowledge of the map, your class, and other classes, those all matter.
the points are:
- personal gear with PvE stats does not matter in structured Player versus Player (sPvP)
- everyone can has access to the same set of sPvP amulets, runes, sigils, traits, skills
if you are disappointed then Guild Wars 2 ’s sPvP is not meant for you.
this way, players can focus on improving their personal mechanical skills, map awareness, rotations, professions traits skills knowledge, 1v1 combat experience, team fight combat experience, etc.
time is not wasted on grinding for stats.
Gear matters in WvW, which is also PvP. If you want to show your prowess using your fancy gear, just go into WvW.
Imo this is how COMPETITIVE pvp should be in every game. You shouldnt get undeserved victories just because you have twice as much stats, it should be about who PLAYS the best
Seems to to me that the people who are upset with this kind of system are the players who just like to gank lower geared people to compensate for being pushed around in real life
If you want to play the min max stat game, roaming in wvw is pretty good. sPvP is completely normalized though – everyone has access to the same gear tier immediately.
