It ain’t. Team with a higher total of personal scores per player gets the win if it ties.

Which is a problem since personal score in no way measures performance. In fact, it often measures quite the opposite.

For example, in a Team Deathmatch match in Courtyard, one team may be able to survive everything the enemy does, and the other team get downed repeatedly, but revive, and the team that had survived the most will lose because revives give personal score, but downing doesn’t, and everyone involved in reviving gives full score instead the score from a revive being split between all involved.

Another example, one team may act as a mindless zerg and capture all in the same point all the time, while the other team splits and captures multiple points, and since each will get points from capture instead those points being divided or the first that entered the point and stood in it until the end getting them all, the mindless team gathers more personal score than the team who is able to split and rotate.

You are right, but these scenarios are rare enough that it doesn’t matter. Personally, if I lose that way, I tell myself it was a draw. And if I win, I tell myself that I won and that I carried my team, because hey, I’m a basic GW2 pvp player.

Because it’s a very poor design and one of the many reasons this game will never be taken seriously on a competitive level.

It’s rare, that’s why it does matter. When it’s a draw no team should lose pips but rewards should still be given to both teams.

If personal score mattered it would be a different story but atm it doesn’t and never has. Anet needs to admit to this and remove the pip loss rule.

While I do think that it is so rare it doesn’t matter (I have 5.5k games played and can only remember a few so it is maybe a 1/1000 chance), I agree that personal score is probably not the best way to decide who won the game, because high personal scores can be achieved by capping with 2 or more people, fighting 3 or more against 1 player which is usually not a good idea and running around taking loads of boss kills on forest while your team is outnumbered elsewhere.
However, as I said at the start of my post, it is so rare that it does not matter and it doesn’t harm me in any way because I have as much chance to win these tied games as I do to lose them. Because of this I don’t want anything to be changed because it is a nice surprise when you do happen to win this way and not too bad even if you do lose this way.
