reduce dmg by 30% in hotjoin. nobody in tournies will care anyway, just make it more friendly to new players.
update the default profession builds based on meta, so you aren’t giving players useless specs out of the gate.
everything else has already been asked for.
OMG this is a great reply please everyone read this. this reply makes this whole forum post worth it.
we get a player that thinks outside the box and comes up with a idea to help new players in hotjoin. plus take the traits weapons runes amulets and utilites from the top players of there classes so when new ppl make a new character and get in the mist they are already were they should be and then can tweak and twork it as they see fit.
and then his other idea is to nerf total dmg in hotjoins by 30%. dude thats a freaken great idea. no more insta gibbing no more QQ from new ppl thinking this really happens in the real tournament part of the game.
great reply. now instead of hearing “nerf thief or mesmer or 100b because new ppl in hotjoin die by them” we can actually let ppl play hot joins get into the game correctly with out strugling over builds or being insta gibbed.
great idea very new person friendly.
edit i took this from another thread i think this was such a good idea it deserved its own thread to see if we can get some light shined on it.

then people will cry about bunkers in hot join and how boring it is taking an hour to kill each other lol
concerning to the damage.. please no.. this just drags out fights between normal builds and bunkers will be even more powerful, as their heals will be more effective.. I’d much rather they’d limit the extreme builds (bunker, glasscannon) so more balanced builds are played – they are much more fun to play against anyway..
as for the default builds.. first of all, for new players it’d probably go a long way, if it were just their pve build they are familiar with – even if it isn’t top effective, them knowing their skills will be more useful than having a great build which only works if you understand the intricacies of it.
what would be nice, is a build-locker, where you can store and load builds (complete with stats). offering a few default builds there would be a nice addition for new people to try different things without having to tinker themselves.. and once they’re comfortable with pvp, they can start to experiment themselves… when I first entered with my necro (and I already did play some pvp with my other classes) I had no clue as to what build to use – so I just went full wellbombing ;-) but if there were a few choices of premade builds, I would’ve definately tried them out to see which is most fun for me to play
I said almost the same thing , about balancing sPvP deferently from tPvP , but this would split up even more the comunity .
For example , most ppl will particiapate in 2-3 tickets tPvP or 5 ?
so everyone agrees that starting builds need to be changed?
but reducing dmg in hotjoins to help new ppl build up skill without being insta gibbed every second isnt something everyone is on bored with?
we need to do something and my old idea is make a middle playlist. an advanced playlist for full teams of 5 to play full teams of 5. leave the free playlist for 1 or 2 ppl to q up at most and that will mean new ppl and less skilled ppl will be in that.
instead of nerfing everything lets have good real ideas
You need to understand that people who play hot join and free tourney are not by default new people or less skilled players.I dont play gw2 at all anymore because pvp is boring one mode only construct with annoying mechanics like clone spam, stealth spam, confusion, retaliation, and when i was playing i did not play paid tournaments because i despise concept of paying or grinding to be able to pvp.People in hotjoin do not need 30% dmg reduction like they are kitten and cannot handle the burst, they need the game that is actually fun and not annoying to play. They need to LOVE pvp to stay committed and eventually move on to “higher level” pvp if they want to.Adding more fun to play game modes and target nearest player feature aswell as fixing stealth render issue and multiple bugs hat exist since beta would be a good start imho and i probably wont be playing at all until they do that.
They would stay longer, yes. However that doesn’t mean they’d stay much longer.
30% dmg nerf is going to inflate defense.

so you think we should work more on bug fixes then nerfs?
ty for claring it up ppl made me think hotjoins were just ppl that qq and make NERF posts. i never been in them and am happy for this info.
can you tell me why you play hotjoins instead of frees? you dont need to grind anything to play frees as thats your reason not to do paids
The only thing needed to get people into tourneys is solo queue’s (with no premade vs pugs) . And to make hotjoin more popular, matchmaking system. These are the reason thousands of casuals are not playing them.
Since you ask, yes i think fixing bugs should be priority because you cannot accurately assess balance with so many bugs around. While i was playing the game i preferred hotjoins because i have no time or desire to look for a team and coordinate my playing time with other people and also i like to pvp alone if possible, just a personal preference.Free tourneys would be much better without pug vs premade matchmaking, if nothing else fact that premade uses voice chat makes frees unfair.
Lots of things deter people for playing SPvP. The format is repetitive, the rewards are only cosmetic, the community is not always pleasant, the new players tend to be overwhelmed fast by poor matchmaking, very little variety in maps.
Just a few of the reasons.
the rewards are only cosmetic
This is the absolute BEST thing about GW2 PvP. Gear grind in PvP is one of the dumbest things ever.

I agree. It doesn’t bother me at all. But the OP was discussing why people aren’t as into it. That’s one of the reasons I’ve heard often. That and, along the same vein, the fact that it has very little impact on PvE outside of titles. (Again, this doesn’t really bother me either.)
