Q:

hi i just wanted to say PvP has become increasingly more and more toxic since i started playing GW2 over 2 yrs ago idk y its gotten to this point but i have a very outstanding block list a number are gold spammers but the majority are players ive blocked look im just saying im PvP exclusive i play Unranked only i play to have fun i dont take things seriously or yell at ppl ive gotten to the point where im fed up with ppl yelling at me and calling me garbage and all sorts of other names im NOT a garbage player ive been at PvP for over 2 years now i think i know what im doing and i main Staff Thief and im frusrated with ppl always harping on me for using that build im like “Hey if it works dont complain”

I think it’s toxic this season because people are sick of one crappy meta and getting stuck playing against at least 2 DH’s 60% of the time. Also, ranked puts stress on people because the game doesn’t matchmake “fairly” to many. I agree with that sentiment. Ranked PvP is in a very poor state, and what makes people more kittened off is the lack of any communication coming down from Anet explaining how they plan on fixing it. In most people’s eyes, they think that Anet thinks PvP is fine, and doesn’t have much care left for it.

The majority of the people in unranked are there for the achievements and not for the “PvP experience”. They’re already kittened off having to do PvP so they’re just doubly salty and rage at people.

You can say yeah they shouldn’t be there but they are and they’re salty. Makes it worse the unranked matchmaker is trash and sometimes I see good players teamed with complete trash it just sucks for everybody involved.

Personally I think it’s a combination of things. Including, but not limited to:

  • No ingame help so folks know the basics.
  • Crappy (some might say broken) matchmaking system
  • Lack of balance between classes and builds

I think most folks have simply become increasingly frustrated with trying to play within a broken framework. Look at all the complaints around SoloQ. Most of those would be solved with clearer MMR and better MM.

Players are frustrated because of the terrible balance between classes. The way Anet does class balancing just doesn’t work. I don’t know if it’s because of their method, of a lack of communication between their different teams or strictly because of their balance team, but it’s a disaster.

All build variety is gone. There is no more room for being inventive or creative. Entire build possibilities are gone and the worse is I think Anet doesn’t even realize it.

I decided to stop playing pvp before getting to the point or simply raging against the game.

I think it has something to do with PvP becoming a joke.

Old PvP: Required targets, skill and burst combos with point rotations.

Current PvP: drop some traps, throw some random AoE somewhere, get hit and proc a bunch of passives and bobs your uncle, you won the fight. Follow the other 3 players to the next point, rinse and repeat.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

One word, frustration. It’s absolutely falls on the shoulders of the development/pvp team. New players have no business playing with seasoned players. It creates a terrible experience for both groups. People yelling and getting yelled at, because A-net cannot sort out their own issues. This is the biggest travesty that can be done to a customer base. By their actions, it is an atmosphere the want to promote. Please don’t come in and say they’re fixing it for next season. The boat has sailed on this long ago.

This 100%, to be honest i wouldnt be sad if they removed ranked all together. Also these new time exclusive achievements for the new maps (2 in a row even!!!) is really not helping with the pvp community toxicity. And they could at least have made 1 of the maps a stronghold maps, or have Anet given up completely on stronghold as well?

This. In the old days you had to coordinate the CC AND the AoE AND the damage to hurt people nowadays every freakin AoE has a CC built in and does damage

Oh and of course they want to make cap points smaller so that AoE has a 100% chance of landing on the point because aiming and coordinating skills is apparently too hard #feelsbadman

In the old days pro and noobs(Thiefs mostly) where saying the same :
‘’nothing need a nerf , ppl should create a more defensive spec if they cant handle the burst meta’’

In 2014 the Devs give us 2 options :
a) They gave Warriors Healing Signet + Cleanisng Ire
b) 4 sec burn in the Necros
(3200 damage every 10 sec , in a 16k hp pool -
something that an spec can do with a simple attack and a lower cd)

and they simply waited ..

What was the results ?
Pro and noobs alike whined more for the Necro (than the Warriors) , demanding more shave each time on their damage and instead asked to give them more survibility .

They doubled the shroud hp + gave them the vampiric signet ….and in the end ppl once more stop using the necro and start using Warriors , because they where better versions with more damage .

What was again was the lesson ?
PPl dont know anything + ppl want more ‘’balanced/survibility specs (HoT) ’’
and ppl will w8 2 years if there is a restrictions that doesnt alow them to play in the EU qualifiers and themselfs are from Egupt or are less than 18 for the prized tournaments

Didn’t really read everything but figured I’d throw my two cents in.

~PvP since HoT came out has been about jamming mid and trying to kill people, instead of capping points.
~People always expect others to run meta, when there are great non meta builds out there.
~Then there are the people, that blame one person on the whole team for loosing, which makes good players not want to play any more. It’s a team game you win and looser together so why so much hostility?
~~Ways to fix this… Make an R.D.M. pvp split for the people who just want to 1v1, it might make actual pvp good again. That or make it so you have to learn what pvp is before you’re able to join. Capping points > Taking Objectives > Fighting on point > Killing people… It’s really not that hard.

Newsflash: its not “lately” it started getting really toxic as soon as Season 1 started. This terrible combination of Pips and division/tier safety nets etc has made the toxity ooze out of nearly everyones orifice.

I’d argue that the toxicity has been around before the seasons even started. It certainly was toxic for me before the introduction of seasons. It just exploded and became more widespread when seasons were introduced.

Playing GW2 for the story is like expecting plot in a porno. You’ll be left disappointed.

Interesting. I actually witness the most toxicity during the first year of the game. Then, everyone was complaining about bull-rush/100-blade warriors and insta-kill backstab/heartseeker thieves.

It’s mostly this.

After a balance patch all the bad players with big mouths flock to whichever class has domination over the others for that particular iteration, and the backlash from that aggravates the people who have been playing that class all along and who finally see much-needed buffs that people are apparently very unhappy with.

I don’t really know how to fix this problem though. It seems as if balancing is done like a whack-a-mole game, or at least that is the result beyond any good intentions.

One class is really strong and all the trash players ride it, people complain, Anet whacks it down. Another class pops up in the power vacuum, all the trash players flock to it, Anet whacks it, another pops up.

They’re literally doing the elder dragon plot, except its balancing.

And I don’t mean to be offensive with this point, I think the balance team works really hard to try to get this right. But there are way too many moving parts to not do it a bit quicker, a bit more concisely, a bit less sweeping.

Anet prefers to remove skills than balance them. Take Ice Bow for example. They took an arbitrary value for the damage nerf 50%, not to limit the dps in a reasonable manner, but instead to push it beyond the threshold of common sense balancing.

We ended up with another useless skill to add to the list that nobody has used now in about a year. The skill was barely usable in PvP before the nerf, and worse of all, they congratulated themselves on the nerf as if they had accomplished something positive.

A 7% damage nerf would have been sufficient in PvE. They could have made it an elite skill instead, since it was way better than all the other crappy elite skills the elementalist has. They even needed to buff the range or speed to make it viable for PvP.

That Icebow nerf was because of PvE and WvW…

It shouldn’t have been effected in PvP that’s for sure, but in WvW it was amazingly OP that nearly every Ele would run it.

Everyone is mad. I cant add anything to the thread that hasn’t been addressed, the trash talk is a cycle of suffering and the mentality of “its just banter pvp tradition xD” isn’t right. Yeah calling your friend profanities is one thing, but purposefully instigating already kittened off people isn’t doing anyone any favors. It’s spreading the fire.
