Hey Jeffrey, you end that thread with redirection people to another thread bout it, so maybe people can go straight ahead to https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/The-hatchery-bugged/590083
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Well its November 1st and its still bugged, I have read the entirety of this thread and its still bugged so I will check back in a few days maybey you will have it dixed by then.
Maybe if we spawn every single forum section they will fix it? Because right now they have abandoned all the players in this storyline since 9/9.
you know, this is my first post and its a shame that an other wise nice game has such an issue. the programer said he FIXED this on 23 oct but has NO IDEA when anet will let it go live. at this time that was 9 days ago that it was fixed, nevemind how long ago it was BROKE. and the response from anet was even worse about us trying to talk about it. they said “answer was given, deal with it” and locked the other post line. i dont CARE when the progrmer did his job and fix this, other then it shows how awful anet is being by SITTING on the fix. REALLY? thats your answer? and then to lock down even talking about this? whats next baneing me for finialy speaking up? deleteing this post? anet, yall really think this is a way to keep players happy? how about ATLEST disableing the choice for future players so they CANT pick a brach that doesnt work when you have no desire to alloy fixes? your coder says he fixed this, so let us play the game.
I realize it’s frustrating, and all I can do is apologize. Our production team is extremely conservative about protecting the integrity of the Live servers so they only push out updates after they’ve been through a complete testing cycle. So, while I was able to find and fix the bug the same day it was reported on the forums, it isn’t an instantaneous process. The Halloween and November updates are also extremely large, and everything needs to work together, so there’s a lot more to test than just this one story step. Also, any hacks/workaround that we tried to implement would have to go through the same rigourous testing process, so there’s no “fast fix” that can be made. Again, I apologize, and I wish had better news, but this fix has not been forgotten, I just don’t have an ETA for when the fix will be rolled out.
My question to this reply is while I understand what your saying, how rigorous can this testing be if you find a bug, fix the bug and push it to live all in less then 12 hours when it’s a Halloween event bug that allows some to get to a ledge that they shouldn’t but when it’s a total show stopper for a huge chunk of the player base it tales over 3 weeks and still no ETA.
I know a lot of people get overly worked up when a bug like this effects them personally and you get a lot of angry one sentence posts that don’t help while cooler heads sit on the side lines and let things play out for a while. I’ve been following both threads and I’m willing to wait but when the mods come in and close a post because their don’t want to deal with it anymore, well that starts to really tic off even the cooler minds on the subject. Now then, I’ve read your reply’s in both posts and very early on you said the fix would be released with the Nov. 5 content patch and I’ve been willing to wait for that and I still am … but should that date come and go with no fix I think you’ll find people will no longer be willing to wait. This is not a small bug that can be brushed under the rug, if you want another SWtoR on your hands just keep it up, trust is hard to earn and easily lost and no game is to good to fail.
I would suggest that you act preemptively from this point forward and write the code needed to allow a player to put in a ticket and have costumer service skip that player though a bugged mission and get it tested and pushed to live now, so that when this happens again and it will the work around is in place and we don’t have to wait for the fix. (Yes I know this will take weeks and it wont be of any help for us right now, but it will be a ready build workaround for next time)

could not said it eny better
if you need help add me im doing the samething and cant get it to work its bugged for me
So Jeffrey let me see if I understand this, You’re telling me that NOW..there is a chance the fix that, HAS BEEN ALREADY MADE, will NOT be pushed in the November 5th patch. If that is the case, then WHAT sort of prioritization is followed in Anet? I would think that a major priority would be to keep the CORE game functional and able to be played fully. I’ve been very patient for the last two weeks and thought perhaps that maybe Anet was very busy and probably the fix was still not “working” in development. But, after reading finally the forums and seeing that not only has it been fixed, but is on the back burner, I have to stop and think if maybe this “priority” list that Anet has is not based on what’s best for players and instead “what’s best for the company”. I’m sorry if that seems inflammatory, however judging by the posts made from many frustrated players in the threads, And on the information given by you sir on this issue, I have to simply use my logic and point to the later decision. Now will I rage and say “I’m quitting!”? Oh of course not, despite this I’m sure I can find other things to tide me over until this fix is implemented live. However, I can’t say the same for many others who are having this exact same problem.

- This Quest is Bugged! Cannot proceed with storyline (Oct 08, 2012)*
This has been happening since Oct 8th
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Hatchery
its been about almost a month since this bug has been out to. If you think waiting 2 weeks was bad imagine the guys who’ve been waiting a month.
I know this is an MMO, but I actually like the single-player-ish PVE stuff best. Without the missions, this game slowly turns into a grindfest (events get old fast). I like my current character and don’t feel like restarting (it’s a lot of work). So I’ve stopped playing until the fix comes up.
There’s probably a not-insignificant number of others out there who feel the same way as me. You will probably lose a few customers if they are still unable to play after the Nov. 5 update. If your players are physically unable to complete your game, then it is BY DEFINITION an incomplete game. Your QA people have had almost a month to solve this issue. If they wasted all of that time testing gimmicky Halloween content, there is a serious disconnect between your company and its player base.

The thing is, the QA HAVE the fix. The fix has been sent out more than a week ago to them. They just haven’t wanted to release it yet. Apparently they’ve been too busy with the next “event” to focus on actually testing a patch that would fix the CORE game. You know, so that we could actually have a game that worked. And yes, I agree also that the company seems to have very little connection between themselves and the player community. If they did, they would realize people would like to actually play a working game and not a game like cheetahmen 2 where you can’t physically finish the thing.

I still don’t see how this hasn’t been put into the game yet….the fix is done, it’s ready to be rolled out. There has been a patch since this post was made.
What gives? Screw “waiting for content update” put it in a kitten patch and fix our game so we can continue our story!

Thank you Jeffrey Vaughn for on multiple occasions having calmly and to the point explained the situation. I hope that you and the rest of the designers can see the compliment in so many people going nuts for your story line!
Also, could you thank the team for all your hard work? I am really looking forward to when you are comfortable with and capable of applying the fix to the live servers!

I’ll thank them when they fix it. Until then I’ll continue to express my disappointment in a mature manner. I’m beyond understanding the need to take time to make sure a patch is as bug free a possible. HOWEVER, when you tell me that since 10/9/12 this bug has been around, and the fact now the patch won’t go live until 11/15/12, I don’t question your ability to do your job, I question your companies ability to prioritize what’s important. If I had a choice between fixing a core game problem that actually keeps people from continuing the game’s core story or work on another event content patch, I’m going with the earlier. Why? because I don’t want a large number of my customer base growing restless for what’s been over a month of not able to continue on with the saga of the guild wars 2 story line. That’s like you bringing a car into my shop saying that the alternator has gone bad. Instead of fixing the alternator so your car can run again, I give you some really swanky new chrome bumpers and a paint job. hey….your car doesn’t run, but isn’t it awesome looking now?!

Jeff thank you for being honest and up font. These ae however several factors y’all don’t seam to be taking into account. You said “I found and find this problem the same day it was reported”. Thank you for your honesty. This makes anet look even worse bc it was reported first nearly a month ago. And anet has been sitting on it. Not good. You said that it wasn’t being released bc Halloween AND Nov were more important. This is even worse. Btw we aren’t stupid. We know y’all are doing something for Christmas too. So now we are looking at not getting a fix you made ready for three or four months? And you expect us to stick around? Do the math. There are three orders. There are two decisions. This means this will stop about 1/6th of your l
Player base. And you still don’t think this matters? Also remember this is not a minor bug this is a stop sign. Story over you lose. I think “rage quite” is silly and stupid. Just remember not only are you not “the only game in town” but you are up against borderlands 2, assassins creed 3, and even xcom. As a matter of fact your not even in thier league bc thier game actually work. If you want to stay in business at all allowed fixes thaty
Ou admit are ready. Not four months later.
I realize it’s frustrating, and all I can do is apologize. Our production team is extremely conservative about protecting the integrity of the Live servers so they only push out updates after they’ve been through a complete testing cycle. Frustrating is not the word. Disappointing is. I expected much better reaction from ArenaNet than to let this bug persist for a month.
Heh, while I know you guys are busy and doing what you can… Your Q&A need a better Priority System. While I understand updating content is important when a large group of players can not manage to move on in their story quest… that should make it to a higher priority because it directly effects your player base.
Also this has been a bug for awhile now. Honestly, and again this is just my opinion and obviously it doesn’t mean much, but this should have been tested and implemented before any major content updates.
Hopefully though, I will say this, in this next upgrade I hope you guys have figured out how to keep your events from bugging.. because it’s been happening sense launch and I have heard from other players it was also happening in Beta? Not sure sense I didn’t Beta. Cause that is a HUGE let down imho.
Basically my experience with my character has been storyline issues… I hit level 80 went to my final “personal” story mission found out I had to get a party to do it now Im stuck either skipping it or waiting tell some of my friends finish hitting 80. Needless to say I am REALLY frustrated with that… so I make a guardian to run around with only to find “The Hatchery is Bugged” that just about made me uninstall the game..
Then I remembered all the great things you have all done and I appreciate those things! I just wish your Q&A team had a bit more sense of urgency when it comes to personal story line missions… for some of us those are the best parts of the game.
Anyway keep up the good work.. Like I said I know you are busy but hopefully this gets fixed BEFORE the 15th.
Welp it’s the 5th and still no patch to fix the issue. As a result, I’ve just given up an stopped playing the game until it’s fixed. Honestly I’m very disappointed in Anet and their ability to prioritize patches. I would have hoped that by now common sense would have prevailed and they would have realized that perhaps it’s best to push this patch to the top of the “fix now” list. Nope, instead it seems they’re more concerned with yet another seasonal event update instead of fixing their CORE game.
~Eliana Veilstrike~
Yak’s Bend (TBE)
Seriously…stop focusing on seasonal events and fix the kitten story quest. How do you take 2+ weeks to fix the main part of your game?

because from what jeff said, they apparently are very “thorough” with their testing. I’m starting to actually wonder if it’s being thorough, or just putting it on the backburner while they push out more holiday content.

Yak’s Bend (TBE)
great, sea of sorrows is almost up. gonna be level 80 soon and im still stuck at a level 45 personal quest. this is horrible.
Well as I said in an earlier post I was willing to wait until the 5th for this bug to be fixed, as it was posted by Jeffrey Vaughn before he went back and edited it a week and a half after he posted it. However being that the 5th has come and gone with no patch it has become painfully clear that there is no one in customer service or development staff that can be trusted to answer our complaints honestly, there priority is Holiday events and all else be kitten including the player base.
I propose it’s time to take our complaints out of the forums where they fall on deaf and indifferent ears and into the game. I call for everyone effected by this bug to enter their missions once per day and file a costumer service ticket, if a thousand players a day file a thousand tickets a day someone will have to read them and close them out, it’s unlikely they have the power to just delete a ticket.
Let your voice be heard in civil protest or let them continue to blow smoke up our azz’s when every they have something funner to work on.
Doing that isn’t going to get things fixed any faster, it’s only going to slow down response time for players with hacked accounts or other support issues.
I said the fix should be in the next content update, I thought it was the 5th but as soon as I found out that it wasn’t, I changed the post. That was my mistake. We’ve tried to be open and honest, but I’m still seeing erroneus information and dates being spread around, which is why the original thread was closed.
Sorry Jeffrey, I personally can’t believe you, since that post there have been four content updates more than one of which fixed personal story or core game bugs. The 1st, the 30th the 24th and the 22ed.
However maybe your words will be poetic … it seems a new build will be released in one hour, will this be “the next content update” that this fix will be on or will it be yet another “Mistake”?

Yeah well you wanna know what the patch today did? All it did was fix the drop rate of random dyes…….yep…..talk about a major priority!
~Eliana Veilstrike~
Yak’s Bend (TBE)
Well, I’ll be 80 tomorrow. Not having the personal storyline has really messed up the flow of the game for me. Instead of naturally exploring the areas, reaching dungeons, and doing hearts…I crafted, pugged dungeons, and did WvWvW for leveling. It didn’t feel right. I, frankly, didn’t enjoy it as much as I did my elementalist. It constricted the world and made it feel much more disjointed and, honestly, unenjoyable.
Frankly, this really ruined the GW2 experience for me. No amount of “I apologize” will change the fact that this bug existed for a month and is currently going to continue existing until some unknown future build. It also really makes me wonder if ArenaNet has traded the personalized, awesome customer service for Blizz-style service that is generally reviled by users.
An incorrect date is the least of the mistakes when it comes to this bug.
Jeffrey Vaughn has taken the time to respond to this post numerous times to try and explain ANET’s position, to me that is good customer service. The least we can all do is try and show a little respect. He has said the bug will be fixed, once it has been fully tested, and as frustrating as this is I don’t think anyone wants them rushing a fix out at the risk of causing further bugs.
Game Update Notes – November 5, 2012
• Corrected drop rate for Unidentified Dye.
On November 1, we introduced a change that unintentionally increased the drop rate of Unidentified Dye. Today’s game update corrects the drop rate for Unidentified Dye.
So this is the game breaking, economy destroying game bug that stopped thousands of players dead in their tracks that needed to be hot fixed with increasing hast? Never mind a small bug that only effects one personal story arc … after all that bug only effects maybe at most ten or twenty players?
“Doing that isn’t going to get things fixed any faster, it’s only going to slow down response time for players with hacked accounts or other support issues.”
I think that it is my right as a customer to do everything in my power to bring ever increasing attention to anything that directly effects my ability to enjoy what I paid for and if that means slowing down the response time for other bugs then so be it. Who’s to say that the bug that’s affecting me is unworthy of being fixed in an expedient manner? However an unintentional increase of … what 0.001% in the drop rate of unidentified dyes gets a fast and immediate hot fix?
Dear Jeffery:
Note to self, when opening mouth please try not to insert foot.
The fix in the drop rate for dye doesn’t necessarily come at the expense of bug fixes. There are a lot of factors that come into these decisions, and different teams work on different things.
Just checked after the november 5th update and still not fixed.
I’m just about to hit lvl 80 (Im at lvl 77) and my main storyline (which is my favourite part) is stillat 45…
I know that you can do PvP or focus on other chars during this time, but a MONTH is too long for this to go on- and I feel as if they haven,t considered people that don’t like PvP and WvW- I never do it. So now I’m stuck and frustrated…. only plus side is world completion is coming along… but that gets tiring….
you know, this is my first post and its a shame that an other wise nice game has such an issue. the programer said he FIXED this on 23 oct but has NO IDEA when anet will let it go live. at this time that was 9 days ago that it was fixed,
Getting fixed right before an event is the WORST time for a bug to get fixed – they usually get pushe doff to after the event. And we currently have two events back to back :/
Same here 5 times now and nothing happens

Dear Jeffery:
Note to self, when opening mouth please try not to insert foot.
1 – It is NOT your right as customer to degrade, intentionally, other players’ experiences. Spamming the support system would be doing exactly that, and open you up for getting a ban (abuse of the ticket system).
1a – And Insert your foot into your own mouth – no where did Jeffrey V say this would slow down fixing other bugs – the people who deal with your support tickets are not the bug fixers. Notice he said it would slow down helping PLAYERS with account/support issues.
2 – A 1/1000th of a percent increase isn’t what happened. I myself have experienced something along the lines of an increase of 300-400% . Others have noticed as much as 1000%. much different than a 0.001% increase. Enough that I saw them selling (unidentified) for less than 2 silver after practically being locked in place at 3.5 silver for weeks.
3 – We have no idea exactly what has broken in this story step. The dye seems to have been a mere decimal getting moved somewhere, somehow.
4 – One reason the dye fixed might of been pushed through is the economy of the game. The hatchery bug doesn’t affect that.
(edited by Rajani Isa.6294)
Well until this is resolved I’ve decided to set the game off to the back burner for a while. Yes I’ve done the other things as suggested, from PVP to map exploration, to dynamic events. However, It feels odd to continue leveling up and just attempting to pass my time on a game when it’s half of the content in my opinion is kept from me just because QA has been sitting on the patch now for almost a month doing nothing. Now it seems we have to wait till the 15th for this patch to even go live. Of course I’d understand a little bit more if the patch wasn’t finished. However Jeff, you’ve yourself said the patch is finished and has been with QA almost immediately after the bug was reported.

I’m just glad that when I attempt to do the Hatchery , that I’ll not be getting too many dyes . That is extremely important to all the players personal story that are {stuck)* there.
When it fails next time… again.
- not meant (stuck ) though sounds similar.

I’m not going to argue, you may be right and I don’t want this thread closed too.
Truth is I’m trying very hard to not be abusively angry, I sat quietly on the side lines waiting for a fix that time and time again was ignored (Seemingly) while other seemingly lesser fixes were hot patched live right in the middle of peak play times. While it’s true more then one bug is worked on at a time the disparity between a bug being fixed in 12 hours and a bug taking a month is too great to ignore. At this point in time I’m just no longer willing to wait quietly on the sidelines for a fix that is long over due.
The foot in mouth commit was about Jeffrey posting that “the next content update” would contain the fix and the fact that he posted that statement just 2 hours before the next content update that did not contain the bug fix.
If this bug is such a game breaker that it takes over a month to test then why doesn’t someone in testing come on line and tell us that and maybe give us a brief explanation as to why and no a paragraph written and passed on to Jeffery to post on someones behave would not take any time away from getting said patch pushed to live.
As for Jeffrey personally I have no animosity towards him, he has in fact done his job but he is also the face of customer service and should be able to answer our concerns with real truthful answer or be able to find said answer, not just next patch after 5 patches have gone live with no fix.
As for the economy of the game? well it is broken and yes they are working to fix it but now not only is the economy broken but so is the personal story.
/sarcasm
So lets see … the economy is broken, the personal story is broken, what else is left … well there’s the core game it’s self but that’s broken to with all the other bugs like the invulnerability bug, so what else is left? Oh right the Holiday events, who know what would happen should those ever have a bug that can’t be fixed within 12 hours. [/sarcasm]
However the most egregious insult of all to me and to the player base as a whole is that they are willfully allowing this bug to exist in a way that continues to trap other players within its web. No attempt has been made to warn people that they should avoid the Skritt story line either in game by locking that arc or with a daily pop up when you log in or even a warning on the main web page. To me this just screams willful negligence.
(edited by Nevermore.3820)
after 12 hours at work, come home, switch on my pc and get on gw2, saw a patch (yay might be a bug fix on the kitten hatchery), alt+tab to forums, news, and UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT. GG
Same problem dude!! so annoying i did the quest about 4 times thinking i did something wrong -.-. ugg what a waste of time i could have just been doing something else -.-
Yeah and the money wasted on traveling back and fourth and repairs. :/ If I had known, I would not have selected that path. Let alone waist all that money.
Unlike others the personal story quest wasn’t a terribly big deal for me. I wanted to see as much as possible, so I waited to do my story quest line until my husband and brother did theirs as well. When choices come up we all choose separate story chains. We’re all level 80 and sat down yesterday to continue our story chains. Skritt are a favorite for all three of us, but I got first choice of what I wanted. Then, lo-and-behold, I thought I messed up the quest. I didn’t mess up… it’s bugged.
I’ll get along fine without my story quest chain. I do get to see it from two other angles as I help my husband and brother. But I am concerned that this has been broken for a month and no one has bothered to warn Guardians to not choose the skritt. My brother, a ranger, could have done skritt on his story line and I would have been happy to watch it.
If I had only known…
I have the same problem too! I wish they repair it so quick!
The foot in mouth commit was about Jeffrey posting that “the next content update” would contain the fix and the fact that he posted that statement just 2 hours before the next content update that did not contain the bug fix.
While it seems it might of snuck in some assets (40 mb) yesterday’s patch was not a content update – they use that to refer to the big updates that add a decent amount of stuff (such as the start of Halloween).
I said the fix should be in the next content update, I thought it was the 5th but as soon as I found out that it wasn’t, I changed the post. That was my mistake. We’ve tried to be open and honest, but I’m still seeing erroneus information and dates being spread around, which is why the original thread was closed.
Thank you for that bit of very much needed explanation.
For the toast!
Redora.3504,
It is bugged for everyone. I play a ranger, and it doesn’t work for me, either. So frustrating! I have started 2 new characters, but my ranger is my favorite, and she is the one whose story I most enjoy. I started out patient with this (my fiance is a software developer, so I am familiar with fixed bugs getting caught in QA), but almost a month later I am pretty disillusioned and frustrated.
well, I signed onto the forums to report this bug since I now have a character stuck on this quest. I tried to find the right thread to post the bug on and discovered many people talking very irrationally about the bug. Honestly, I can understand the frustration because we enjoy playing the game and this one bug is holding us up from progressing in the story line. What really frustrates me more is that when logical explanations are given for when a fix is expected and why it wasn’t out when it was projected to be out, the community of people who are stuck have a ragefit. Please remember that you are talking to human beings here and that they are trying to correct the issues. We all love this game but sometimes forget that people are working to fix it.
Quite frankly, I am very pleased to hear that there is a fix ankittenhankful knowing that it is coming soon. I understand how those who have been waiting for that fix for a while though want the fix pushed since it is a high priority for them since their characters are at a standstill. Just remember that we are talking to people and be a bit more respectful.

Yes, exactly, thank you
