Hi,

I have reached the maximum number of guilds on my account.
I wonder if it would be possible to increase the number of guilds we can join.

Not necessarily for free, but allowing us to join two more guilds in exchange for 800 gems, for example, would be nice.

I support this.

In addition to my actual guilds, two of my guild slots are permanently used up by GC and TTS. I would love to also join Arah vets and a giant slayer guild, but can’t without playing switcheroo all the time.

I think I would pay gems for that yes.

My guilds:

• a 2-people guild with my partner for shared storage
• a guild with people from the clan that I played various games (including GW 1) with for 12+ years, as sort of a nostalgic contact list
• GC, for guild missions (as my other two guilds are too small)
• TTS, for Tequatl fights
• honorary membership in another guild

I’ve also been a member of, but had to leave to make room for the above guilds:

• a guild that serves as a contact list for dungeon runs during off-peak hours (I live in Europe but play on NA server)
• Arah vets
• A temporary guild that my circle of friends used to fund and share series 1 minis for the achievement

I would also like to join the following guilds, if I had any free slots:

• giant slayers
• a guild to set up tPvP (as suggested by the devs)
• and possibly a WvW guild
• another honorary membership of a clan I’ve been friends with / allied with for 12+ years. I can currently partake in their forum discussions but not guild chat.
• a guild that I know several players of really well and that I have been informally invited to and that would be awesome to join so I would have easier access to people to run fractals with.

Now I am an allrounder/generalist and a very social gamer – and you might not be, but honestly, I don’t see this as unreasonable at all. The game itself is now designed to favor either a) super big guilds that do everything or b) several, specialised guilds, such as TTS or, as suggested by a dev, guilds specifically used for tPvP matchmaking.

The limitation of 5 guilds seems arbitrary (why not three? why not eight?).

And yes, I would pay the same price for additional guild slots as I would (roughly) for bag/bank/character slots.

Being restricted to 5 guilds is very limiting and decreases ones ability to interact and socialise in this game.

It restricts content that people may want to do, as some encounters cannot be overcome by yourself. Other encounters are enjoyed best with a coordinated group of people.

Being part of specialised groups opens doors. Numerous times I’ve received PM’s from people asking me to go along and participate in activities because I’m part of a specialised guild, they know I want to participate in these activities. It’s great.

I’m in a weird situation now where I’ll join a guild, leave it after I’ve done an activity so I can join another guild to link in with their activity to leave and join the other guild again.

I’m already involved in more than 5 guilds. I just have to work around this silly system to do it.

Agreed it is very silly that it limits us to only 5 guilds. It also would be reasonable for us to have to pay to unlock more guild slots.

I’m not trying to bash what the op suggested…. but. Its my opinion that excellent guilds would arise if we could only join one guild across all characters. The guild that I’m currently in is suffering from “translucent players issue” or guild jumpers. lol i don’t have a good name for it sorry.

We have 400+ members, but said 400 members don’t rep and then said members who do rep (50+) only get on when its time for the guild missions. Its very nasty and i have to admit some of this is our fault (do to not letting “go” members who don’t rep).

Because of the ability to “swap” guilds, i think most most probably feel very shallow. Only about 30- members constant rep and some of those myself included now just don’t play as much as we used to. I like Guild Wars 2. But if i had to name the game something else it probably wouldn’t have been that. Feels more like Guild Swap 2.

I empathize with your plight, particularly if you are a one guild person.

To assume tho a guild would be great if all people represented it 100% is not conducive, there’s more dynamics at play than that.

The current system allows flexibility and if you don’t ask people to rep 100% then why should they? As explained above specialised guilds offer more specific interest and focus compared to a general ‘one guild fits all’.

As far as it feeling ‘shallow’ is concerned, it’s probably more of a case of each to their own. I enjoy the general bantering that exists in my WvW guild and I have a Friend’s List for those I’m particularly close to.

A better suggestion would be to allow players to participate and see all the guild chats of the guild they belong to.

Mutl-guilding is a nice ideal, but remains practically pointless as in effect all you are doing is leaving one guild and joining another. You have no idea what is going on in the guild’s you don’t represent and so have no opportunity to participate.

I have to respectfully disagree with the idea of being able to join even more Guilds. The Goal of my Primary Guild is to become large enough to run all Guild Missions and form a nice squad in WvW, while still being small enough for everyone to mostly know everyone else.

Unfortunately, I’m on a server that has a large Guild that prefers to cannibalize smaller guilds for WvW coverage, as opposed to recruiting new players and increasing our overall WvW presence. It makes it quite hard to grow.

No, I’d rather bring back the Alliance system. Have u ever thought of how unfair or lacking of respect u are towards the Guild that u’ra not repping!

The non-repping thing is a cause of irritation and should not be in this game I Think. U should only be able to be in ONE Guild repping that one. The multiple Guild system is crap as it is now.

In our Guild we have 100% repping as requirement. If they do not represent they’re out. We are about 90 members today…

I agree with the OP as I’m also in the same situation as PixelPumpkin.

If your guild requires 100% then feel free to do what you want with those whom aren’t repping. I choose to join non-100% rep guilds as I do have a real life friends only guild that I’m a part of and thus do not want to break any rules for the 100% rep guilds.

Don’t take it personal, but all people I know would call people like you anything, but never a “social gamer”. You are in different guilds for your own advantage – because you want to have more store, because you want to trade minis, so on. It’s just pure oppurtunism, nothing more, nothing less.

Agree with this, experienced this in other MMOs where you only had one guild / clan / kinship you could join. This lead usually to strong / elitist guilds, because you couldn’t say something like “Oh you are doing THAT? Well, then till later, I don’t like to help you with that, I switch to my other guild with interest XYZ.” to your pals. And you were proud of being in that guild (so the bonds were much stronger) and worked hard for your / their reputation (in usually every aspect of the game, not just a special one), because being in really good guilds was kinda hard to achieve – hardly anyone would have said something like “Oh, you think my guild sucks? Well, it’s only my pve guild, so idc, f*** ’em.”

Long story short: Nope, you should even decrease the actual amounts of guilds you are in to like 3. Nobody needs more than that. Really. No one. Everything else → friendslist. Or you simply should learn to set priorities.

I think you didn’t read all the words of my post: I said I was a generalist and a social person.

*As a generalist, *I want to experience all aspects the game has to offer, and that’s why I joined TTS, GC, Arah vets etc. If want to label me as selfish for that, go ahead I guess? Am I being selfish for both joining a soccer team and a movie club in real life?

However, shared storage with my boyfriend is *a social tool. *Guild chat with my best friends, many of who I know in real life despite the fact that they’re spread out all over the world, is a social tool. It’s not my fault that some of my best friends are part of different guilds. In real life, I can be part of several circles of friends. I can hang out with my work mates on a week night and spend all Saturday with my BFFs, and neither of them get jealous. Picking one circle of friends over the other doesn’t show commitment: it just means that you have to pick some people over other people, that you get to hang out with some and abandon the rest. How that makes you a more social person, I don’t know.

All this being said, our different philosophies are really not the issue here. The question is, what philosophy is the game designed to facilitate? The developers themselves encourage and support the creation and use of guild for specific purposes such as tPvP match/ups. The guild system was specifically set up so you can play soccer with some and go bowling with others, so if you want to criticize people, maybe start with the source.
