Commander of Blacktide
Hey everyone,
I don’t wanna write a big wall of text, i’ll try to keep my points short and direct.
1. Boss Fights
These boss fights are very simple, too simple for any MMO standart nowadays, people want to be challenged, i want to be challenged when i go kill a boss, the way this is, it’s just very boring to do any boss fight as there is nothing special about it, just like the 10 bosses you fought before.
You would assume they would put all their skills into making the Zaithan fight at least somewhat interesting, well, you’ll be dissapointed, it’s pretty much impossible to lose and there’s nothing fun about it
2. No healing class
When you ANET were designing the game, did you at some point said “what if instead of healers, we added these waypoints where people can rez?”
No tank, that would be OK, but no healer? Every fight is just a DPS race, until you get overwhelmed and you just die, rez go back and try to finish the rest of the fight with a few more deaths.
I would like you to take a step back and think, this is not working out, it’s definitely not fun at all, you need to change and bring spark back into the game, i hope the next expansion includes a healing class, otherwise i cannot possibly see how can this game will increase it’s player base or keep the people playing.
I hear more negative things about this game than positive, mostly because ANET decided to over-hype things, noone blames you, you tried something different, but didn’t work, swallow your pride and give the community what they want, and not what you think they want.

Yes there are no healing class…
Let me tell you how it works.
All classes can play Tank. All can play DPS and all can play support.
What you call “healing” is actually supporting and all classes can heal. Every class have AoE heal that can be used to assist their team and all classes have group boons that also can support the team. Forget the old WoW build. This is Guild Wars!

TBH not many classes are great at healing. Im a warrior specced in Healing and Vitality/Toughness. My gear as well, i use my shouts to heal, and banners to buff. Does this stop people constantly getting downed in Dungeons with no way for anyone to do anything about it? Its not just a l2pyc issue either.
THEY CANNOT AVOID DYING. There is little mitigation for some classes, and heals are on big CD’s for those who arent specced for doing so, which would make boss fights and dungeons take even longer then they do now with such low DPS.
Engineers and Elementalists are taking rolls as healers as they are more able to, Guardians as tanks as they are more able to. It is still frustrating to not be able to carry through pub groups as a good healer or a good tank, because they dont know what to do. Its a problem the way they have implemented it, the idea is…. well okay…. but its poorly implemented.
I, as a tank and healing build, should be able to take some aggro, too bad theres no system for stealing aggro in this game. And a guy should be able to stand back and send heals or protection my way. No matter what class they are. Thats what GW advertised. The ability to play as any class, any way you want. But how often do you see Rangers tanking or healing? How often are Guardians or Warriors the ones keeping your tanking Necro alive?
Due to armour types and poor ability structure, this DOES NOT work.
Like i said, the idea was great, but in practise it does not work.
They won’t change the game now, but they can change when a new expansion comes, and i hope they do implement a healing class.
I’m a Charr Warrior speced with Vitality and Toughness, some fights i take 2 hits before dying, this mostly resumes to some dungeons to, die, rez, run, die, rez run.
Games are supposed to be fun, MMO’s are very sensitive, not having a healing class in my opinion it’s only hurting the game.
It’s more about the intelligent use of heals as most of the classes actuatually get skills that can be used to heal others.
As for stealing agro you can kind of do that by getting in the face of a creature while the current target backs off or dodges away. Typically enemies will go for the closest target (though not always).
Don’t expect to be able to stand your ground and not ever have to move about a fair bit. GWs combat is far more dynamic in that respect.
Sure it is a pity they dont let players choose to be a certain role, but it’s nice they dont force the co-dependancy bridge between classes that other MMOs will do.
However because of the change in style it will have a teething stage as players get more used to the way GW2 handles things differently.
It works perfectly fine. It’s not about keeping up people, it’s about dodging the right things, and knowing what damage to take, and what not to take.
well 2 suggestions
1) go play anything else because this system is maybe not perfect but awesome
2) get used to it and find a guild and make team builds together. Since its MMORPG its better to play with friends -> you can find friends in every corner. If you have problem with finding new friends go replay RL
btw:
Whats funny on standing still and smashing / big heal button on your targeted Main Tank?
Whats funny on using /aggrogain and than standing still waiting for big heals?
Whats funny on doing DPS when you just have to stand and smash /bighitter when theree is almost no real threat while MT and Healers are alive?

Go full water elementalist with a healing set and its basically easy mode.
This is why i find it hard to discuss anything in forums, it’s just exhausting.
“Stop standing still you noob”, “Theres no fun in taking a hammer to the face”, etc.
Guys, i am very happy that you like this game, now, instead of talking crap in my post can you add anything relative interesting?
I am throwing facts, you guys are throwing opinions.
Anyways, because it’s so hard to discuss anything without taking a billion fanboys replies, i close my case.
Moderator please close this thread, matter of fact you can shut down the forums, if it’s not a fanboy post, your voice does not get trough.
Well first of all, Hero, I do not agree with you. The system is brilliant and I’m glad Anet took the chances they did. We got a superior product. The system works fine and it honestly sounds like you’re having some trouble adapting to it. That’s understandable but I suggest taking some more time to think critically about the issues before coming here and saying things like all you hear is negative stuff because it’s clearly not true.
What do you expect?
You suggested to change the magic of this game… unbelieveable!

This game can be difficult in dungeons, but it can be done without dying, it just takes a little practice and a good team who know how the dungeon works. not being funny, but standing still and tanking somthing is probably going to get you killed, it does take a lot of moving about and evading. I am a bit confused by you post HERO, you stated the following:
“These boss fights are very simple, too simple for any MMO standart nowadays, people want to be challenged, i want to be challenged when i go kill a boss, the way this is, it’s just very boring to do any boss fight as there is nothing special about it, just like the 10 bosses you fought before.”
but then went on to say about Dying all the time and no healers.
Not sure what your going on about, If you want standard Tank, healer and DPS set up then maybe Wow or LOTRO is a better option.

Ir’s difficult to have this discussion when there are people who don’t agree or realize that attrition via graveyard zerg is not synonymous with either “skill” or “challenge level”.
That aside, I don’t want to see classes dedicated to roles. What I want is for them to develop and realize more fully the idea that all classes can symbiotically provide those roles.
The basic framework for such a game is in place but of course one has only to play it to see that it doesn’t quite work that way yet. For example, it’s difficult to take someone seriously when they suggest that a Thief “tanking” is indistinguishable from say a Guardian tanking. That person is not thinking deeply enough to realize that there is no agility-based “avoidance” tanking in the game, or that the group benefits of certain class abilities lend themselves to such a role while others clearly provide no similar benefit.
The framework is there, like I said, and I want to see it fleshed out. They’ve certainly broken the trinity; they just haven’t finished building its replacement yet. But a return to that kind of system, where a class is dedicated to a role, would be a step in the wrong direction.
Honestly, healing needs a boost in the game to be more viable, the system is fine though. What we need are more passive healing abilities that are not tied to traits, let traits amplify them, don’t let them be the source of the healing imo. It seems they wanted so badly to get away from buff bots that they tried to give support to all classes, its a good idea and needs to be truly invested in. If this is where they want to go, then go all in..give us all passive abilities that are not trait bound.
GW2 is not like wow or others mmorpg.
All class can do everything… and this is good.
The fight is not static, is dynamic (jump dodge, combo skills) so there is no need to have the classic holy tinity.
The problem is that some healing skills mechanic doesn’t works… and, in my opinion, if some one want play healer/supporter is penalized a little bit.
If there is no holy trinity, why people can create an high performance DPS build, but not an high performance Healing build?
“No holy trinity” doesn’t means all DPS and not healers… means “every one can do all the roles”… so… why healing skills are penalized (no target and low performance)?
In my opinion they should change just a few things… ele, engi and guardian potentially can be good healers/supporters…
No need to create monk or others specific healer class.
- Some skills (like healing breeze, orb of light and mecifull intervention) should influence their direction with the “friendly target” and not a random aim like now.
Not speaking about direct healing. Just the direction.
If not, just change it in “area effect” so we can choose where the skill should go.
I’m just asking to heal who I want and not a random target or (in the 50% case) no one cause my character’s healing skill is following an enemy (!!), a team mate dodge it or is bugged.
- Regen should stack like bleeding does… maybe a little less… Why not?
- Some CD should be shorter… (meditation 90 sec! consacration 130!)
- Some heal should be cast in movments.
- Show the healt bar on the ally so i can istant know who need help
- Improve a little bit the healing power effect (not too much) or the healing effect (300 hot or 1000 heal is nothing compared whit the amount of damage that a player suffer)
And, ofc, fix all the bugs…
Just this few things, in my opinion, will makes the “wanna be healer” players happy without chang the game’s rules and without unbalancing the class.
All I hear is “I DON’T UNDERSTAND THE GAME WAAN WAAN MAKE IT LIKE THE REST”.
The system works. Stop going all DPS and start doubling up – you characthers should all be control/support, control/DPS, or support/DPS.

Please direct me to my Thief’s group healing & buffing abilities that are equal to my Guardian’s. I seem to have misplaced them. For that matter, point me to the part of my character that makes up for the armor difference with something else, like say agility/avoidance. Where are those things again? Oh right, they don’t exist ;-)
The game’s stated goal of destroying and replacing the trinity is a noble one, but it’s only half done; the first half. The replacement system is only partially there. It’s a good start, and it will be great when things actually work the way you seem to believe they do, but we’re not quite there yet.
Still, to be clear, what I want to see is for Anet to finish creating that new system; not returning to an old one like the OP suggests.
You got a point.

I think it’s fine to not have the holy trinity system. But would be nice if arenanet can increase the healing amount from the skills. I am building my warrior as a tanking class, with the main focus on healing power, vitiality and toughness. The problem is that my healing skill couldn’t even heal me up to 75% of HP when I am close to dying.
Also, maybe increase the regeneration of group health much faster. In the heat of combat, the regeneration to me seem like little to none.
Just a side note, I think guild wars 2’s tanking is different from other MMO, when I am trying to tank, I usually aggro few enemies on me while running around and dodge their attacks, the classic standing still ways of tanking seems not apply to GW2. That might put someone off, but I am fine with that.

Sounds like your just upset at the fact that people disagree with YOUR opinion and enjoy the games difference from main stream MMOs. Personally, I’d hate to see healers added (though I miss my monk every day) and miss out on feeling like an actually skilled player. The only time you end up zerging from a waypoint back into the fight is when your uncoordinated, make friends and win.

Shadow Refuge with up to date gear and traits is amazing for a thief. Top that with a short bow and dropping poison pools in front of your group and voila! You have CC via stealthing allies, AOE heals in the form of regen ticks, and your group is piling on the debuffs via combos. Just one nice example, for a cherry on top add in the thieves you can call in and those guys up the dps and debuffs along with aggro management off your teammates.
Thief is a brilliant support class when played right.

You asked for direction right at the top, you’ve been given lesson one in playing a PvE thief. If you don’t like people giving you play tips don’t ask to be shown things.
Like i said, the idea was great, but in practise it does not work.
The only reason it "doesn’t work " is because of the mentality people are bringing into it . A Thief cant just stand in front of an Ogre champ only using their heal and expect to live while wailing on the guy , nor could a Guardian for that matter . Positioning and TEAM support is just as important . Ive been in boss fights where everyone’s had to rez a million times and then there have been those times where ive fought that same boss and very few if any rezes were needed .
All the classes can do both, support and damage.
It doesn’t means that all the classes can do it in the same way… and, obviously, some one can do somethings better than others.
Speaking about conditions, i say engi.
Speaking about protection, i say guardian.
Speaking about damage burst, i say ele.
etc etc…
Every class got a specific archetype…
Tief support arhetype is not based on healing… and guardian have not a poison/stealt/snare dps arhetype.
And this is godd… it means that there is a real difference between classes.
I don’t know how tief are, but reading what Raine said, tief can support.
Back to the main topic…
I agree with the healing system improvement.
Some mechanics doesn’t works at all.
The way I see it is that ANet want something similar to the system in Monster Hunter, where mostly everyone taking care of their own health while still working together to bring down the boss.
Players are suppose to avoid/prevent damage in the first place.
The reason healing skills aren’t effective is because there to help lessen the punishment from failing to prevent/dodge and not the main function of the battle.
This is probably also the decision behind the reason why there is “no healer” in game.
The system does not really work though because of low death penalty (including way point in dungeon). So people just does not really care about their health. Taking off way point or have a dungeon lost condition upon total death might force player to be more cautious.

Aha, now see this is why it’s important to read threads before chiming in. I’ll break it down for ya’.
See, someone said basically that all classes are equally capable of functioning in all the classic roles. I disagreed, and by way of a very specific example I asked him to explain how a Thief “tanks” equally as well as a Guardian. A point which that person conceded, as should anyone who understands the game or frankly has even played it.
Then you came in, skimmed a couple of posts, and misunderstood what the conversation was about. I assume that’s why you wrote in with something not relevant to what was actually being discussed, which as I said was some very specific example. It’s as if I said, “I can’t find any apple recipes” and you said, “Dude, there are plenty of orange recipes. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Anyway, don’t worry yourself about it. This is just me giving you a lesson in reading comprehension.

Guardians can’t tank because they can’t reliably draw aggro when it counts. Sure, they can survive longer, but what’s the benefit if they can’t take hits for other guys?
broken systems? this is news to me and Im level 80. I believe most of the “broken system” complaints come from people who aren’t adjusting playstyle.
Want to know the secret to combat in GW2?
Its called “Dont get hit”
You have a dodge, use it. You have healing skills which return roughly half, if not more, use them. I agree heals should stack and though things arent perfect, I wouldnt call them broken.

People arejust too stuck with the trinity mindset. It’s not needed here, you just need people that know what to do. This isnt a mindless dungeon grinder like WoW where you can facepull, have no knowledge about your class and still beat the dungeons.
Combo fields, dodging, “tanking” ranged mobs by blocking LoS to the real target. You cant go full on tank spec/gear and expect to hold aggro, aggro is all about damage. You need to reactivly manually tank in this game if thats the route you are taking.
Otherwise you should pick a dps spec with high vigor proc chance or high base end regen from traits and dodge tank kitten and make use of LoS etc.
Big issue in this game are the players, they freak out when you drop an AoE and think it belongs to the enemy. If they would just stand in those cleansing and healing would be alot easier. The tools are there for everything you need, just not the brains of some players.
You don’t give lessons to anybody on the internet.
Some people just still haven’t learned how the system works. That’s okay, we’re working with what, 8 years of the same MMO mentality?
I’m not surprised. People just want the same game. Eventually they’ll go back to it. (Fingers crossed!)
And why would I want to be a healing thief anyway! Lamest thief evar
The way I see it is that ANet want something similar to the system in Monster Hunter, where mostly everyone taking care of their own health while still working together to bring down the boss.

Yes, I have to agree with this to a point; however, there’s still flaws in the system.
Damage mitigation is tied to dodge rolls but the mobs are often so tightly packed in an area dodging a big whammy means getting more mobs on you (unless someone else happens to be hunting in the same area – which despite being an MMO will not always be the case) or, worse yet, the area prevents being able to dodge – Windy Cave in Lornar’s Pass where you’re balancing on a beam or narrow ledge while facing Veteran Shadow Imps is a stark example of this and trying to run the bomb through Griffonrook Run is another.
The limitations on dodging (endurance, rolling off cliffs, agroing more mobs) is not offset enough by the healing skill due to the cooldowns on them being equally as long… one or the other could be adjusted downwards.
The few skills that purge conditions give no immunity to them being immediately re-applied and often have long cooldowns whereas abilities that apply conditions frequently have low or no cooldown… so while I might remove snares/confusion with a use of Consume Conditions, I’ll have to wait 25s to use that skill again and usually get those or other conditions re-applied before the animation has even finished on my ability.
Some champions hit HARD… meaning even a high Vit/armor class is gonna be reeling after one shot…. a good example is the Champion Destroyer Harpy in Kessex Hills… yes, you can dodge her big attack however even her regular attack hurts… and you can’t constantly evade. While trying to kite her around there’s other mobs spawning in the room so even with two full groups of people there will probably be frequent deaths… I don’t know how many times I’ve seen total wipes from 15+ people trying to tear down either the Champion Destroyer Harpy or the Krait Bloodwitch but the rewards for the event are not worth the effort in my opinion. I’ve done them each a few times now I just avoid them… not worth the risk of damaged gear for the piddly coins I’ll get for participating in the event when I can get better rewards doing easier events – like fighting off the krait trying to abduct the quaggan villagers… or killing the risen krait in Lychmere.
With no means of agro management and no true tanking classes… “boss” mobs need to be made so that, while tough to tear down and challenging to fight, they don’t utterly destroy people in medium or light armor with a swing or two. I can understand the easily telegraphed (red circle style) attacks being one-shot kills… if you don’t move it’s all on you, but their basic attacks need don’t need to be as overly devastating as some are… if I annoy the destroyer harpy, nobody can really peel her off of me so I’m stuck to playing keepaway but after two dodges I’m going to get smacked. There needs to be a little more forgiveness in the battles – not asking them to be made cakewalks – since there’s cooldowns on healing skills, limited endurance for dodges, and not really agro management. As it stands, the sole source of agro management I have found is invisibility which WILL cause a boss to swap to a different target, but if this is what people are forced to rely upon you haven’t done away with the holy trinity as much as changed which classes people might consider “must haves”, since only a few classes have access to invisibility or combo fields to create it.
(edited by Barghaest.3061)
Having no skill classes is part of what makes GW2 different and great, if a team wants to get together they could decide to choose roles if they want to, especially for dungeons in explorer mode, but no-one is tied down to a particular role throughout the entire game as a particular character.
The only issue I have with boss fights is that some boss fights drag on for far too long, and thus causes a loss of interest and concentration. Besides that, I do no find the absence of a heal specific class an issue at all.
I don’t like MMOs that require tanking and healing. In my opinion they ruin combat and cause long waits for the perfect party layout. Not only that, they often cause rage when people do not perform their roles correctly. I would rather play the game having fun, than play the game as if it were a job…
Downed is not dead, if people get downed a bunch of times in a fight that’s not failure. Only if the team actually dies.

With the dodge system, they could design a lot more challenging content especially if there was a healer class. Combat is more engaging when it’s balanced around a healer. They could make skills to taunt, they could have AI prioritize the healer and encourage more dynamic team assistance, etc. There’s a lot they COULD do with the trinity to make it more interesting. The game depth is definitely suffering, in my opinion, from the paradigm shift as everything is too homogenized, heals are ineffective on their own, etc. Cluster**** and zerg mechanics are not mentally engaging even if i have to dodge a telegraphed attack every 30 seconds. Without the trinity, they are very limited in the type of group play (what gives MMOs longevity) they can foster, the methods they use to design encounters, and most importantly, they are very limited in the way they balance classes and skills. It’s just missing that hook that GW1 had.

What if i told you they could add the healer, streamline build choices and over-haul traits so that teams could still effectively prosper without the healer paradigm. Then it goes to the skill of the group. Does the 4 DPS, 1 healer group out maneuver the 2 Guardians, 2 Rangers and 1 Thief group? This requires actual thought to the design and balance work, something ArenaNet has not showed they are willing to do even if it will benefit the gameplay depth. Think of it this way, tactical grouping is more engaging than homogeneous carebear zerg-mobbing, which is what we have because of the skill design and lack of trinity.
Hughs, no offense, but you are coming across like a ‘holy trinity’ fanboy. Tank and Spank is the most boring system ever. I much prefer the chaos of GW2 combat over this old stinker. The only reason why people still love it is because it’s easy to understand and gives you a sense of ‘purpose’.
I am glad to be rid of the fighting and the name calling and the blaming that comes along with Tanks vs. Healers vs. DPS not doing what they’re supposed to do blah blah blah.
Could Anet tighten up their Control, Support, Damage aspects? Sure. Should they design Dungeons to be more challenging? Absolutely. Do they need defined roles for each profession? I don’t think so.
(edited by Zhaneel.9208)
Ive said this once, ill say it agian. GW2 in many aspects plays like a 1 player game. You need to dodge, move around, break LOS, and all that jazz. Exploration especially it seems like it plays like a solo RPG and the stories, amazing.

Ok first u complain : the game is not challenging enough
Then you complain : You’re dying too often…
So what u want is a super difficult game that you never die in?…
On top of that you’re saying "there is no real heal class because I play a warrior…
Simple fact of the matter is, there are pretty easy tactics to not dying…
1: Don’t build a glass cannon its useless in pvp and pve
2: Move/dodge/ use range abilities…oh im so sorry u wanted to bum rush the giant dragon but sometimes using a rifle or bow is just a better plan of action…
3: upgrade ur gear: im in full exotics at 80 and can def tell u things hit for a lot less and im not even fully spec’ed into tankyness (though as a warrior i do have around 3200 atk/30% crit/41% crit dmg/3200 armor and 24k hp so im not a glass cannon either)
4: Use utility Skills that can keep you or a party member alive…for example “shake off” and “Endure Pain” are great for pve on warriors…
How is Anets design not working when thousands complete dungeon runs daily with no problem? Yes sometimes you’re going to die…whats a mmo without death? that in itself sounds too easy to me. I would love a more dedicated cleric like class because I generally like playing healers…with a lower CD single target clickable heal…but not having one doesn’t hurt the game at all.

hey, when you fight the cyber demon in doom episode 2 do you have a dedicated healing class?
Rly why dont all people who complain about the healing class go back to play WOW pandas? I like this system its many times better that holy trinity since I have to do more things than just DPS or MT healer or MT! I play offensive support/condition mesmer. See? I do more then just DPS. And? Its better! Try it! Its fun to be more than just single role in party!
I don’t want f*** go to play WOW.
Stop this s***t, plz… T_T
I started play GW1 in 2005, i played all the expansion and farmed titles and points for the Hall.
I was whaiting GW2 since the first day they announced it.
I played GW2 Beta, bought the preorder and i started to play since the first day.
So… you have no right to sey me or some one else like me “Go play WOW”.
What I said since the begin was clear:
“No holy trinity doesn’t means all player dps cause healing suks”
It is an obvious truth that there is a big performance difference between dps skills and healing skills.
And this is not fair.
If a player want to be full dps, he can create an high performance build.
If a player want to be full healer he can’t because the healing skills are penalized.
Don’t you agree?
Ok… i can do a list of healing skills and compare it with damage skills for show you the big difference.
You have just to ask for it.
well if you want to go pure DPS build you will suck because you will be permanently lying on ground and rest of your group will have to take care of you…
but if you go semi DPS/bit of healing to group you contribution to party will be rapidly increased!
I actually play in guild with my friends from RL- so we sit one night together and we told each other what do everybody wants to play and then we started to theorycraft and improving our builds… now we have guardian and warrior both are semi DPS/support and they can heal together for 6500HP every 25 sec + everybody can use own heal → 12k heal min every 25 sec!
Its enough if there will be pure healing class and you play it your team will suffer! This is the point of this game and this is the reason you should go play WOW or GW1…
You simply cant heal the whole team and its fine because if everybody from party heals for a bit its more effective and its better fun because you just dont have to only heal!!! Do you remember how painful is Looking for Tank/Healer in old system? YEAH I can form a party within a minute because we dont need the pure healer or tank to complete dungeon!
Comparision between healing skills and DPS skills is totaly kitten But still if you play guardian or warrior with full healing EQ you should heal for nice numbers but you still have to do some dmg or you will be useless for team. Get over it! This game is TOTALY different you have to play like single player game but you still have to support your team.
So instead of using a system that people know that works (Holy Trinity) and believe me in GW1 there was no lack of healers or tanks.
They resort to a bad system that according to people here relies on you “dodging” using engi for damage, guardian for healing and warriors for tanks.
So i translate this into, handicapped holy trinity.
ANET tried to do something that doesn’t work.
Most of the people that defend this game, are people who don’t like to be challenged, to figure out the way the boss works, so they all can have max stat gear and cool looking weapons.
10 days later, everyone has the same gear and weapons, and then they will start complaining.
The thing about making games easy, is that everyone is as good as you.
Getting FoW Armor in GW1 or doing UW run was more challenging than GW2 all events and dungeons put together.
Besides the cool graphics and the new races, i just can’t see how anyone believes GW2 to be an improvement of GW1.
Please enlight me, please, please.
Well its your opinion!
I played PVE in guild wars 1 only once with single char and… nevermore I didnt liked it same as WOW, Rift…! I played those games for PVP part and it was awesome…
Here everything changes I like to play PVE. I like dungeons. Its more chalenging and fun than it was with holy trinity… The only thing I remember was perma spam of few spells rotation and do as much DPS/heal/aggro as I can.
Now its more dynamic and more skill based. (well if you have full exo lvl80 with legendary weapon and you go to lower instances Its normal that you kitten everything there but if you did lvl 70 in wow and you went to Wailing Coverns (lvl20 instance) you kitten everything even harder).
Well if you dont think that guild wars 2 Is better play the older version. You are guys minority. No one will probably cares because you are attacking main core of this game…
Recently I went into a few dungeons (CM, TA) with my mates. We were a team of mid level characters, two thieves, a ranger and a guardian. We proceeded to get thoroughly annihilated. And then we sat down and tried to figure out what we could do different.
And this is where GW2 truly started to shine for me, as compared to GW1 and WAR for example.
We could adapt. Suddenly we had to work together. We needed to have communication, stick close to our guardian, work together. We were all healers in the way that the ranger would put down a healing spring, then someone else would do a whirl and heal us. We worked with fields and finishers, and were far more effective as a cohesive force than we were as single players. Towards the end of the dungeon, the people that had tore us apart before were defeated with far less death and suffering.
Yes, we were all healers and tanks, but not the way you’d think. That guardian light field and a cluster bomb, and suddenly we all have retaliation = 3s of tanking. A water field + death blossom, and suddenly that thief is a healer as well as dps.
It works. And once I got the hang of that, it was awesome to go back out in PVE and keep an eye out for fields. Even if I’ve never met the person before I can be fairly reliant on the fact that yes, guardians will be giving light fields on a fairly regular basis, and dropping my bow and drawing my sword will make me a far nastier addition to the fight when I can get a bit of retaliation by timing things right.
And best of all? It feels great when you pull it off. That moment when complete strangers suddenly start sticking together and work as a team is the greatest feeling ever, and one that I think Anet is trying to cause. Sure, it will take time to make people pay attention in this new way, but I think that after a while, it will be so worth it. I smile every time I cast a healing spring into combat, and immediately see someone pull off a whirl attack and heal everybody around him. Just the best feeling ever.
