I agree, previewing was perfectly fine before. (Aside from not being able to preview on the trading post.) This is an unnecessary and highly inconvenient change, and should be returned. The only thing that shouldn’t be allowed, in my opinion, is buying soulbound items that you cannot use. But previewing should always be possible.

I really want to push for letting go of armor restrictions completely. If you’re from Tarnished Coast, everyone on that server should be wanting that right? I highly dislike being controlled. I don’t even care about any additional function of equipping an item, I just want the appearance.

You have to be kidding? I can’t believe they removed this.

All the bugs and issues in this game and they focus on underwater combat and remove something that was cool – is this some sort of joke?

Often guildies want to show off some cool armour that they obtained – where is the harm in this?

Everyone does, but even taking away preview is annoying. There is no real reason for it. :< I just want to be able to SEE gear on my character without having to Google a GW2armoury website etc.

I completely agree. Previewing has always been too restrictive (specifically the inability to preview items on the TP), which forces players to use out-of-game tools such as the wiki and item databases to examine most armour appearances. This escalates a moderate inconvenience into a severe one.

Consider, in particular, the case of Cultural Armour. A significant factor in character creation (for myself and no doubt some others) is the selection of armours which will be available. This unnecessary removal of a feature requires that a player have three characters of each race in order to examine all of the Cultural Armour options – and (s)he will have to constantly switch through those characters.

In short, this is a completely asinine change. Features which have no negative impact on gameplay should never be removed. In the case of previewing, we need fewer restrictions, not more.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Bring back the preview. And ADD preview to the trading post. The preview pane says it’s sponsored by the Black Lion Trading Post, so why doesn’t the TP itself have preview?

I can only guess that they removed it because there were some people who weren’t observant enough to notice the red text telling them they couldn’t wear it. It would be much better to put in a confirmation “This character cannot equip this item. Are you sure you want to buy it?” prompt. Apply that to weapons as well, and anything that has a level requirement too high for the purchaser. But let us preview!

This change is ridiculous. It deserves a hotfix Anet, a hotfix. Please bring it back before a January update.

I believe it does. I think as Hamfast said, a ’Do you want this? you cannot wear this" is an appropriate warning.

Preview was perfectly fine the way it was before.

I really miss being able to preview all the armor and clothing. I really hope that it’s just a bug, and it will be fixed when they have time.

Previewing gear you can’t wear is a good way of checking something before you make a character that can wear it, or you’re curious what things look like on you.

If the armor sprite is just the same whatever char you are playing why not mantain the preview system for all armors? It´s really interesting to see how some armor/weapon will equip in my chars so I can choose when I´m doing new chars.

Removing a interesting preview system is just a way to make some sort of people not wanting new things (most of them spending gems to buy new char slot).

I love how ANet just keeps messing these little things up. The preview system was (apart from not showing particle effects (and in particular sucked for priory weapons)) damn near perfect…

That’s ridiculous.
Now how are we supposed to know what armour people are talking about without standing right next to them or memorizing all the names. Or how are we supposed to find gear for out alts when we are out exploring, you can’t go out and randomly find a piece of gear you absolutely love for one of your other characters.

I have always supported your decisions for doing what ever it is you have done. But this, this I cannot support

I already own 11 character slots. Not enough for every race in every armour set.

I’ll try to keep it up. Especially with new events and such out, it is such a shame to pull away a fantastic part of the game.

I have to support this motion. I loved this function and it is a really really real shame that you removed it from the game. Please don’t keep us disappointed, and bring it back.

The only thing I can imagine is, previewing creates desires in the players that are outside of ArenaNet’s design choices for us. Here’s a preview I took just a couple of days ago. I found these for the medium armor class and thought they would be awesome! So, I purchased them with hopes they may become available one day for my heavy classed Warrior. Now, the only option I get when clicking on them is to destroy them. Nice….. huh? Destroy any wishing outside of the cookie cutter.

I’ll never understand what harm it could do for anyone to have options in armor. This game needs to incorporate the spirit of the Sims and Farmville much more. Not everyone wants to be “ZOMFG….. kill… kill!” machine 24/7. Building and creating is much more rewarding…

And, I know this is off topic for preview but, wouldn’t it be great to pick portions of the armor that’s visible? I’d love to disable those sleeves. Ugg…. tacky as heck! Anyone else agree or is it just me?

I totally agree with this thread, I understand you are busy trying to fix previewing for the trading post but no one wants to log out check an item on their character that can use the item then log back in to decide if you sell it or not…..allow all classes to see what other classes can use.

It is a shame to take away such a simple feature.

I want preview back as well please. I wanna check out order gear for other alts who have yet to join an order and I can’t do that if the option isn’t available!

Yes please, bring it back. The smart thing would have been to never have removed the option, if it was indeed intended.

This is ridiculous. What possible harm was it doing? Sure I can’t wear it, but I damn well want to look at it! You just fixed something that wasn’t broken, like the time jumping was “fixed”. Please, undo this already.

Please bring it back! My reasons are already stated above in all the other posts.

I mean if say, my male warrior joined Vigil, and wants to check out light and medium armor in case some of my other male characters wish to join Vigil later.

I’ve noticed yesterday that I couldn’t preview a light exotic armor I’ve found while I was playing my Engineer. Dunno if I could preview other armor types before but even if not change it so I can.

Well it’s in the patch notes. So it was intentional.

Still the stupidest decision they ever made. And if I can’t preview armour from different armour types, then why can I preview weapons I can’t use? WORST. CHANGE. EVER.

Edit: Could of course be because there was some issue with it, but if that is the reason they should have said so ages ago, because this is just kitten people off. Do you know how difficult it is to have a conversation about armour with people using different armour types? People want to be able to actually see the armour, not just the stats and the icon.

I agree fully with this, and I am hoping they bring back this option asap. Every time I find a new piece of not-my-class armor, I always preview it and if it looks good I send it to one of my characters who CAN use it.

All removing preview does is increase hassle needlessly.

Keep this up on the top, this change is just about the dumbest thing a game that is focused on horizontal growth can do! How can we be interested in what things look like if we can’t bloody see what things are!?
