After coming over from GW have come across some disappointing and annoying mechanics in GW2. Obviously we all can see that GW2 is nothing like GW but more of a spinoff of WoW. The only connection is references and really nothing else. Here is one of my complaints/annoyances.

Waypoints – I’m indiffernt as to the concept of having to pay to use them but the overall use seems a little poorly conceived. First, paying to use them should be based on distance and the area, not also by your level. Just because you are a higher level doesn’t mean you should be penalized and have to pay more. Second, why have waypoints if they are constantly contested especially in high level areas…that makes them useless…which is just dumb. Third, having to pay to use a waypoint after you die is also just dumb. How can you pay money if you are dead? If you die you should have other options, not being forced to pay money. Some better solutions would be color coding waypoints. If foes are in the area of a waypoint then code the waypoint red to alert players and they can decide if they want to risk it-that would make it interesting. Players don’t waste their time killing all the foes in an area just so a waypoint can be available for use for a short time. You can also have 2 kinds of waypoints. First, having one or two waypoints at the entrance(s) to the area which would be free to use or a lesser cost and also act as a rez location free of cost. Second, would be the current waypoints which would cost a little more to use as they may be closer to locations. You could allow players to rez at those waypoints at a cost if they choose or use the free one. On a side note why not just use rez shrines like they did in GW so there is some connection between the two games.

You’re absolutely right in noticing the disconnect between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2… but you obviously haven’t actually played Guild Wars 2 or World of Warcraft if you are able to put any legitimate similarities between the two.

Also, did you really need to make a separate thread for each complaint? You could have easily put them all into the same thread, one post at a time. Then all your L2P nonsense would have been in the same place, instead of spread out so far.

You need to learn to convey your ideas in a less aggressive manner, and probably with better formatting. I think waypoints are just a bit too expensive, or at least would like to see a max cost cap for when I’m going from Rata Sum to Blazeridge.

I agree the costs get a little out of control as you reach higher levels, but your currency inflow should also be higher. Also, it’s in place to help encourage you to move about the world in a more natural way. If you don’t like spending money, hit the closest point you’re willing to pay for and walk. I’ve done it a few times, and let me tell you that I enjoy going through and seeing the world. It’s nice to walk through a zone I haven’t been to in a while and see events I forgot about, or maybe never even got the chance to do.

And GW2 is a WoW clone? As someone who has played World of Warcraft from release to about seven months after Pandaria, I can tell you that GW2 is nothing like any stage of WoW.

Ability is what you can do; Motivation is how much you do; Attitude is how well you do it.
