Dishonour
Agreed
I think they log out to dodge repair costs though, but ANet should just disable log out in combat or something.
I don’t think it’s just repair costs, I think it’s avoiding the humiliation of defeat and denying your opponent a kill out of spite.
I think if they eliminated repair costs in pvp this would go away. Rather than spend a lot of time coming up with a dishonor system. Why don’t they just try having no repair costs in pvp for a period of time and see if that takes care of the problem. If it does then there’s the answer.
I’ve never done this but, since Armor repair was mentioned, I wouldn’t mind if Armor repair was removed from WvW. I’m leaving WvW every night with equal to or less silver than I started with. It’s kind of a hindrance to playing hard in there.
I agree with removing armor repair from wvw. I just did some wvw while naked for about an hour. I probably would have died less with armor on, but anyways:
With a group/zerg I died twice and made 2 silver. Going solo, attacking dolyaks and sentries, I made 8 silver and died about 5 times. However financially, if I did have armor on and died at the same rate I would have lost 1s instead of making 2s with the group, and solo I would have lost 2s instead of making 8s (assuming armor repair is approximately 2 silver).
If a person’s alternative to fighting naked is logging out to avoid the repair costs, the incentive is definetely there in wvw, especially for poorer players. Its like if you’re going to die anyways and rez at the same waypoint, you might as well save on the 2 silver repair costs and spend an extra 10-15 seconds at a loading screen.
I agree with ban of original post. In WvW and SPvP and regardless where this is done to apply this ban in both WvW and SPvP. Now I am not uber good PvPer but leaving is just unfair.
As for repair in WvW, well it would be nice to not have armor damage at all like in SPvP.
In a sense the penalty for logging out in WvW is already in place. No real effect on low pop servers but in servers where WvW matters, that person has to re-enter the queue before they can logout on next combat.
Personally, I don’t care… I make 100-200 badges a day despite people logging out.
I dared to mention the word “honour” in the SPVP forum and got laughed at as a result, just goes to show doesn’t it.

No need to dishonor them. The game Dishonored shows what happens when you throw that around, and as illustrated it creates a very dark situation.
Anyhow, mentlegen, I suppose that when you D/C your character remains in-game for roughly 15 seconds before disappearing, allowing others to kill you and negating the effect of logging. This covers for people who actually lag out as well as people who are cowardly. Other MMOs do this too.
Yep, 15 second delay so that such cowardly behaviour won’t pay off. It’s a game, you’ve got to be able to win some and lose some, you can be a bad loser even if you want, but “cheating” by logging/d-c is just lame.
They should give you a bunny/kitten costume buff that lasts 24 hours so everyone can tell you’re a cheat.

Kittens don’t deserve to be dirtied by cowards, and even then there are people who would lag out and be bunnified undeservingly.
Remove repair costs and this problem will all but go away.

The problem is not the repair costs. If you do such a thing in L2 you will be kicked out of the clan . Here ppl just don’t care about honor. The game is made to support this attitude. Enemies are anonymous in WvW, everyone has up to 4 guilds. Noone cares what other ppl think about him. Players play for statistic points, not for a real fame. Which are the best players in GW2? I don’t know, maybe we shall look in Youtube, cause it’s impossible to find them into the game.

most games have a 10 delay before your character actually logs out. i have no clue why this isn’t added from the get go. keep making noise about this. this is a reasonable issue that can be dealt with.
If people want to log out of the game to avoid death, I say let them.
- The majority of people don’t do this, so it’s still easy enough to kill foes in WvW.
- The people who do this still have to log back in and re-queue for WvW. They still are giving up on whatever battle they were in.
Even so, there are situations in which an otherwise honorable person might logout just before dying, e.g. when they really should have quit 20 minutes earlier, but are thinking they will finish one more siege. Then, they get caught by a zerg. Instead of waiting to die and then quitting, it seems reasonable to me that they just exit the game.
But even if there aren’t good reasons for [F12] before death, I don’t really see this as such a huge problem that ANet needs to take action against it. Yeah, it’s happened to me and I’m sad about the loss of potential badges and other loot, but other than that, it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the game.

The problem is that it is becoming an increasing trend. In my own personal experience, I have noticed a great increase in the number of players I have caught doing this. Even just yesterday, I had 7 bouts 1v1, and 4 of them logged either when I downed them, or had the element of surprise.
Based on my sample, that’s over 50% of players logging out mid combat and Anet should address the problem.
I sincerely believe that mitigating the repair costs is only going to show a slight improvement. They should have a 10-minute barring from all PvP for logging out in combat. Alternatively, they need to keep the character logged in for 10 seconds or so, as formerly mentioned in this thread.

We Came To Dance [WCTD]
Voice from kitchen: Honey, help, I just cut my hand off in the disposall!!
Player: Hang on a minute I’m downed and if I log off I’ll be suspended for 30 minutes.
VFK: For God’s sake leave that stupid game and help me, I’m losing blood fast!
P: I won’t be long … oh good I just got healed … oops, I’m down again.
VFK: (weakly) Help … please …
P: I said wait a minute! My honor is at stake here!
VFK: (silence)
P: (plays on)
Just kidding.
Agree, let them not enter Wvwvw for One day. That will prob stop them doing it,simple but effective.
An even simpler solution:
- When a player logs out, keep their body in the world for x more seconds
Problem solved
OP
Usually, I stay dead every time just to give directions to everyone else as to where the zerg is going. If I don’t need to do that, I wait for the spike then portal out simply because it’s faster. But if I’m the one doing the spiking I don’t mind if he exits out. That just means one less player on their side for 5 minutes. I play for my server, not for personal gain.
Side note: Peeps that dance over your corpse and spam emoticons are very troubled individuals.
But in all honesty, why does it matter so much? You know you won, and they know they lost. Isn’t that enough? True it’s poor character and childish, but you shouldn’t really care that much about it. If the only thing it is hurting is your sense of closure on a 1v1 match, that’s kind of trivial.
My only real concern about this is badges. If they could figure out a way to still give you badges if they log out in the downed state, I could care less if they exit game.
But honestly, I don’t need to drive a stake in someone to realize I won. Heck, most times if there is someone else around I’ll just move on and let someone else finish him off. I’ve even let the camp guards or krait finish off a few at times lol.

You do have a point with the anonymity thing. ANet went overboard with the whole anti-griefing crusade in W3. In makes total sense in pve where you shouldn’t be forced into a pvp role. But in W3, the whole point of the thing is competition and teamwork. But ANet just wants the teamwork and dropped off the competition part. Having generic names over everyone’s head devalues everything into an impersonal confrontation that almost feels like you’re attacking pve mobs.
I troll because I care
They are likely PVE players trying to map complete and who don’t want armor repair costs as a result of being forced into PvP in order to get a PvE item they are trying for. So ANet should either remove repair costs when in WvW or remove WvW from map completion requirements.
That would make me really mad if I still PvPed. Another reason to add to my list of why I don’t want to return to that style of playing.
Unfortunately in RL you have to have honour to play PvP as it should be played, and most I have learned do not. It is they that ruined any type of enjoyment I had when I did PvP and a main reason I have zero desire to return
I think this is something that should be looked into. Unfortunately I don’t see it happening until a big expansion. There would be a lot of coding to do to address it correctly
I"m stunned at the “I make 100-200 badges a day” … huh? How many hours a day or you on WvW? Eiher that or, I really have to stop worrying about being supportive and go glass cannon killing machine
Roy, were you that lil white human male who streaked past me the other night??? Someone on Tier 1 ran passed me naked. I was starting to type “Hey your armor is….” and whooosh! they were long gone already. lmao
