Distance Indicator
this is completely pointless.. if they are out of range the skill turns red indicating they are out of range.. what more do you need to know?
and part of the game is learning your skills and learning to judge distance yourself.

A tiny red bar below your screen is not a very reliable tool to indicate distance, in my opinion.
Plus there are times when i can still connect an attack even if the red bar shows.

anet specifically said they dont want details on the screen.. seeing distance marked next to people is unnecessary and they wont add it.. no matter how much you beg or plead.. its part of their design goals to keep info as minimal as possible.. and what you ask is completely unnecessary.

Oh, well that’s a darn shame. Oh well, was worth the effort.
I think a proper range indicator will be quite useful as some moves do different damage depending on range. There’s no harm (apart from dev time) in having it as an option.

you can say that again, 80% of all the skills and traits have no explanation on how it works at all let alone what it does.

Especially when you’re someone who lost the sight in one eye as I am. A pointer in the nameplate indicating the distance would be great.
While I definitely don’t think range numbers need to be added onscreen (it can get cluttered enough), I wouldn’t mind perhaps if there was some varied colors added to the skill indicator for mid/long range since several skills do vary their damage based on this information. So instead of just Red for out of range, you might have blue & green for long and mid range and no color for short/melee range.
I totally support any kind of range indicator. What i thought about is a small icon with a number on it, next to the selecter target’s hp bar or name, or anywhere really. There could be an option to switch it off too, so those who don’t need it, or who are bothered by that one plus number, won’t see it at all. I agree there are classes and skills which wouldn’t need this, but with skills like ranger’s longbow autoattack, it would be really useful. Or with other skills that scale depending on distance from the target. I absolutely don’t see why it would be a bad thing to implement.
