People are complaining about lack of build and stats variety and I thought this could be fixed by adding a new type of transmutation stones – masterwork.

You could use these to combine three items into one and you would have to select one stat from each item (not same one), skin, rune etc…

I think many people would appreciate this, however what do you think about it?

Why not just make it so crafters can change a single stat on items they can create?

I.e Armoursmiths can change a single stat on heavy armour, while Tailors can change a stat on light.

yeah good idea. so im going to combine a warplate with the power from soldiers, the toughness from knights and the vitality from shaman to a Soldier-stat warplate with 101 statpoints on power, vit, tough..

The stat combinations are the way they are for balancing reasons.

There are a few currently nonexistent combinations that would fit certain builds much better than what we can currently have.

So what your suggestion would end up doing is making everyone buy the new transmutation stone, which would obviously be a Gem Store only item, and then they would all look the same, except with much less balanced combinations.

End result being that the diversity you wanted won’t be there and the balance we have is lost.

Fact is, people will always go for the best stats. You can’t change that.

As I said this would create more stats combinations and variety, if I’m not wrong there is 9 stats combinations and that’s not much. You could have power+condition damage+condition duration for necro, toughness+vitality+healing power for survival etc…

Let’s say I have a Ranger and I want to be tanky guy.

I want Toughness + Vitality + Healing Power but this combination doesn’t exist so you have to take another one.

You may think this is a bad example but those 9 stats combinations doesn’t provides much diversity.

Easy solution, you get to change the combination using the OP idea, but you do not get to choose the +stat number, Arenanet would figure out what each combination would have in +stats.
