Legendary Weapons need to Be More Legendary
I completely agree with you
No, this is the most ridiculous idea I had ever heard of.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Great idea! Legendaries are purely ascetic at the moment and it seems a great shame. The stats thing really and truly should be a given. The Legendary skill though… now there is something I had never thought of that would be amazing. Ideas just flooded into my mind when you mentioned it. It also makes sense that the skills would all be aoe. The kind of legendary idea of “one against many”
Bolt – A thunder strike aoe that does massive damage and stuns all foes for 2 seconds inside it’s radius
Bifrost – Freeze an entire area, immobilizing foes for 1 second and chilling them for 5 with some damage.
The Unicorn Bow (can’t remember it’s name sorry) – Maybe this could have a spray aoe, where a herd of spectral unicorns stampede out in front of the wielder and do damage and a massive knock back to all enemies in the path.
Great idea man!

No, thank you. I have a Legendary weapon. I crafted it for aesthetic reasons. I don’t want a “click here to win” button. I don’t want to see five-man teams of Legendary wielders able to wipe out an entire zerg force in WvW simply by synchronizing their Legendary attacks. I don’t want a player to ever think “I can usually beat a Warrior 1-on-1, but that guy has a Legendary and his super attack might not be on cooldown, so I’d better run away instead.” I don’t want to see the community descend into arguments about vertical progression.
I disagree, seeing how legendary weapons are more of luck based on RNG, or having help from other people, or buying gems to get the funds to purchase. Giving them higher stats would make the game UN-balanced. So basically people how have endless hours to grind or just pure luck will have a higher advantage over people how do not have the time or resources.
No. Making Legendaries more powerful makes them mandatory. Giving them ANY advantage over Exotics would be shameful, and the game would essentially become P2W. This is a terrible, disgusting idea and if it ever happens, Arenanet won’t be seeing a single penny out of my wallet ever again, and I’d probably just delete my account entirely. I played GW2 to begin with because of the promise of no vertical progression. Please do not try and destroy that.
This is coming from an owner of two legendaries. I made them in the knowledge that they would be nothing more than prestigious skins, something to achieve in the long term. They are NOT to be “the best of the best”. The very thought makes my blood boil.
Like Apolyon said below, at most, I would expect aesthetic things like emotes or visual effects while in combat. The instant you make them affect the actual combat, I’m out. Forever.

A million times no. Everybody should be able to get the best gear, and not only those lucky enough to get a precursor.
Guild Wars is a game of skill, and not a game of farming hours.
On a side note, I wouldn’t mind if Legendaries had some kind of special emote like the special ability that you described, to use in cities or out of combat situations.
Absolutely not.
Upon reading the points above, I have revised my opinion too. I realise it will unbalance things somewhat.
A Mesmer of Darkhaven
No across the board. Higher damage, even the slightest, will make players feel forced to get it since it will be the best attainable gear. Legendary skills invite just more imbalance.
Some legendary weapons should be “more legendary” that they are in their current state. Aside from improving effects on some, I’ve always thought that having the legendary weapon modify your skill animations would be a nice touch. Power creep is not the way to go with an aesthetics-driven game.

Game balance is something that can always be tuned and it is necessary for EVERY game. The more creative and complex the game is, the more difficult and important balancing it is.
If you reject an idea just because it would have to be balanced, this game will never change- for better or for worse- and I’d hate to see that kind of stagnation in a game that is already so groundbreaking.
However, while I don’t understand the argument about “no vertical progression” (how is this any different from Masterwork → Rare or Rare → Exotic?), I do sympathize with the idea of power creep. But again, if it is only your weapon that is getting slightly more damage output, I just don’t see that being a problem. I’ve never come across any party that only allows in players with Exotic weaponry, and I don’t see how it’d be any different here.
(edited by Gryphon.7058)
Just no. They SHOULD be purely aesthetic. However, as I’ve posted on the other thread about legendaries, it’s the actual process of getting them that should feel epic. As it is its just a mind-numbing grind. There’s nothing about it that requires skill, or immerses you a quest worthy of the name legendary.
How about we scrap the legendary weapon idea since there really are not many of people who would want to master the entire game for 1 of its materials? I mean, there is no point to having one except to show everyone how much of a persistent nolife you are. The slight stat boost a Legendary gives over an Exotic is not worth the massive amount of trouble it takes to get it.
What your suggestion would effectively do is render the entire game into a legendary grind for players wanting to remain competitive.
No, no and no again.
I’m all for weapons having unique properties and whatnot but this should not be limited to players with thousands of gold to spare.
Legendaries are cosmetics, not a buff. They arn’t within many people’s reach so even the slightest of buffs compared to exotic/ascended would be outrageous.
And technically some legendaries do have legendary “skills”. It changes the effects on many skills through either projectiles or swinging. As the skin is, these effects are also purely cosmetic.
The idea of making a legendary is supposed to be unique, memorable, and rewarding. Currently, aquiring a legendary is pure luck (precursor) with a grind that makes most korean mmos feel reasonable. The process is just unbearable to me, which is why I didn’t pursue a legendary (also incenerator’s don’t fit my style). More legendary skins will come in time, hopefully they ignore gs though. Seriously they need to lay off gs skins.

I think all people who think LEgendaries should have a stat increase, or just be the best possible weapon, watch this vid, it really sums up all things and gives a clear answer about this subject:
I would vote no on this. I have a legendary, it was a legendary grind and I had my precursor from the karka event… I wouldn’t of got it otherwise.
I think what would make the legendary more fun, would be a legendary quest to get it in the first place!!
A weapon is just a weapon, it’s what you do with it that makes it legendary! imo.
I would rather find some old sword in the dirt, visit the priory, find out it has some “magic” to it, then go on a long quest around the world, slaying foes, or taking it to a shrine at a certain time to make it shine or something…. Make the weapon become something. That way it’s more epic than being seen as someone with “no life” because we have legendaries already and did nothing but farm!!
I vote yes.
As long as you cannot use Legendarys in WvWvW/Spvp. They would go red and go back to your inventory if you enter these areas.

So, because you want to create imbalance, I shouldn’t be able to use the weapon I worked hard to create in WvW?
No. Legendaries will only ever be as powerful as the most powerful weapon. ANet has said this before. Please, just stop trying to make stupid, useless changes.
Great idea! Legendaries are purely ascetic at the moment….
The entire point of legendaries. Never to be a higher stat item, never to be something people have to grind for. It is something that looks cool that can be achieved through various ways, but never, ever give an advantage over others.
“You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power. We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently.”

How about Legendary Elites Skills?
Long recharge, long casting times but super kitten? During those casting times you can do some pretty awesome looking camera work.
-Sunrise replaces your first 5 skills and the character gets light wings.
-The Dreamer will summon the rainbow unicorn and it will charge, knocking back foes.
-Juggernaut will summon a massive metal fist to slam into the ground for big AoE damage.
-Frostfang will replace the first 5 skills and engulf the players body with the ice dragon.
-Incinerator will charge up and blast a fire lazer.
-Bifrost engulfs the area with the Aurora Lights, healing, removing conditions and granting boons.
-Kudzu summons a flower field that will heal and inflict conditions on foes.
-Moot can Summon a Disco Ball that buffs allies and crashes into the ground.
-Bolt can Summon a Lightning Dragon that will swill around the player, giving swiftness to allies and damaging enemies.
-Rodgort can summon a fire dragon that will crash into the ground, setting it on fire.
-The Predator can fire like a gatling gun.
-The Flameseeker Prophecies can summon a Titan Ally.
-The Howler can summon Fenrir.
-Hell, the underwater legendaries elite skills could be you can bring them onto land, AN ACTUAL USE FOR THEM in a game that is played 99% on land!
But I don’t think ArenaNet is cool enough to work on improving legendaries. Have you see all those boring or useless traits? Seriously, dealing 10% more damage is nice but I want something fun! Have traits affect skills, I want visual feedback THAT IS NOT NUMBERS!

No. I played C9, which judging from your comment you did too, and the ultimate fury skills were cool, yes, but I don’t want them in GW2. Why? Because GW2 isn’t about getting increasingly incredibly flashy moves. You can’t balance if you’re juggling sledgehammers.
No need to change legendaries. They’re gonna get stronger once ascended weapons are introduced.
Although I would love for this to happen, I don’t think it should. Would make it necessary to grind for a legendary to win. As it stands, players who don’t have 1000 hours into the game won’t start off with a disadvantage.

I disagree with both higher stats and a unique skill. The legendary thing is designed to give you something cool for all your time, not something more powerful. Grind2Win is as distasteful to me as Pay2Win.
But, I’d be in favor of better effects (like sound effects for all) and unique skill animations or even coloring (so my fire breath and aura with Rodgort on my guardian use flames the same color as Rodgort’s flames instead of blue).

That’s sad because the legendary stats are very likely to be increased to equal the ascended weapons stats.
Legendaries shod stay as they are, if anet adds that extra skill that only legendaries can have, then dungeon groups will search for people with twilight sunrise etc. it’s already bad enough that there are preceded professions where rangers can’t do a single dungeon.
I like the idea of a special emote that can be used to show off your legendary while afking or something. For example the predator will have an emote where the character lies down on his/her belly like a sniper and aim down the scope, and shoots once every 5 seconds or something, the emote would be an emote where you only have to type in once just like /dance

LOVE that idea! Please do it! Only don’t know how it’d affect people with legendary underwaters or multiple legendaries.

Lots of fun ideas are mentioned, but before they would pay attention to them, they should atleast finish some of the existing legendaries. Some still need polishing in my opinion.
These weapons should have more to them just because its so hard to make.. Legendary should be the ultimate weapon. Not just a normal weapon with some fx.
A skill dropdown menu is a cool idea, i saw on another topic.
Like 4-5 stats which you can switch between. Either one super powerful one, 3 medium ones. Or 5 weak ones. Something like that.
Also The Incinerator Dagger needs some work when “Idle” or in your belt. It has no fx at all when not drawn. When drawn it looks amazing, but does need some work..
I’ve seen it suggested before, yes legendaries need to bring something more to the table. That something more doesn’t mean a stat increase, or exclusive skills. Instead, a quality of life change would suffice. Example:
1. Create a legendary (congrats on grinding your days out to look very not-so-unique. Either way, congrats.
2. Purchase a corresponding weapon with the stats you want.
3. Take both weapons to the mystic forge.
4. Either just the 2 weapons (would be simpler) or some item like the gift of X you got from the dungeon you farmed to make the legendary, just so it isn’t too easy or conveinient. Either way, the burden of making a legendary should be enough but some may disagree.
5. The recipe now allows you to swap the legendary to those new stats when ooc. So lets say your sunrise, which starts with p/v/t was put in with a zerker gs. When ooc, a drop down menu on the legendary appears allowing you to swap to those stats freely. Naturally you would want to use an exotic for this but if said person used a rare or masterwork or fine, it would be zerker of that stat.
The idea is some players may have a different build or desire of a build using the same weapon. Transmutating is not only a burden but costly if you don’t get them from the daily/monthly. This won’t eliminate the need for different weapon types but it would make build switching for some much more conveinient.
On a side note, any plans to make a transmuation crystal recipe for the stones? I have about 120, some have way more (I only did 100% map once out of my 3 80’s) and they arn’t useful. Even if it costs like 50 sp 50 stones some crystaline dust and a bottle of elonian wine, I’d make them. Such an important item and its nearly exclusive to the gem store. Seems wrong imo..
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”

Yeah this cannot be done in any form or it makes the game go P2W. If you don’t think legendaries are worth it as they are now, don’t get them.
Stormbluff Isle ( http://www.stormbluffisle.com )
When you use the elite skill for twilight for example you should cut the edge of reality, leaving a space between GW2 and real life. A Limousine comes out and then chuck norris as he instantly defeats everyone, instead of getting downed however, there characters are deleted and a fist comes through the screen instantly killing the player. Then you are awarded 1000g and a super model comes to your house to marry you.

The funny party is you need Eternity to get the legendary achievement. Owning Sunrise or Twilight isn’t enough to get the achievement.
Lets not forget some legendary’s are just flat out worthless or has 0 visual changes still.
-Underwater legendary’s in a game played 99% on land. Completely useless.
-The Minstrel and Meteorlogicus has NOT A SINGLE visual change.
-The Incinerators footprints are barely visible and throwing the blade just looks flat out stupid on an Elementalist. Not to mention while wearing Fire Gods Vambraces the ‘flame’ effect is non-existent.
-Frostfang looks JUST LIKE Corrupted Skeggox, the only way to spot Frostfang from a distance is to notice that little tiny white footprints on the ground. I was on a fractals run and I didn’t notice our Warrior had Frostfang until Maw. Good job on this ‘legendary’ really made it stand out to it’s 30g brethren.
-Rodgort and Howler are already so small, the visual effects are barely noticeable.
Something is wrong when half your legendary’s are lackluster or useless. Oh yeah, the visual aesthetic is rewarding on HALF the legendary’s. Good argument there.
