Hello!
As with many of You, I started playing Guild Wars the day it came out and immediately fell in love with the world ArenaNet created. I decided to write this letter to the team, to show my support for the future of my beloved franchise.

First, I would like to start with the main reasons why I prefer to play Guild Wars more than other online role playing games.

Part 1: Individuality, Uniqueness

Being an artist myself the first thing I look for in a game is the customization options for my character. Even though the first GW You could only play as a human, the choices were many and great. The thing I liked the most is the fact that You could look at a character and immediately tell what class they are, based on the way the characters face, hair and armor looked. Every class had unique faces, hair and armor.

I do not know if it is possible or feasible, but for GW2 I would really like unique faces, hairs and most importantly, unique armors for the different classes. Armor more than anything, since I believe its the best and easiest visual identification.

Dances should be also class specific, and also when You look at a class, their dance should match. For example in GW the necromancer’s MJ dance, or the ritualist’s sexy mystic dance, the spinning dervish dance. Thats how You would expect necro, or rit or dervish to dance!

Other thing that I loved in GW thats gone from GW2 is the way classes were animated. The idle in combat animations. The ritualist’s attack animation, the body-rotating and behind-the-shoulder-whatchamacallit staff attacks, just like a blind person would attack, except sexy and cool! The way the dervish lowers her head after an attack animation finishes is another good example. If at all possible I would love to see those in GW2. (Also put the old old ranger dance back, the one where after the hand animations the ranger starts to shake her behind non stop, not the one where the whole dance cycles. ;p )

Part 2: Skills

For hours and hours I would just browse the wiki and read the skill descriptions and try to make new builds. No other game had the GW skill system and it is the other thing I miss most about the game. Sure You can change skills in GW2 but they are WAY less ( I know we probably will get more skills with updates) and also I feel like there is something lacking. I miss the skill builds and combinations. For the future, one of my suggestions is for us to be able to change our first 5 skills that are based on weapons. For example with the next expansion You can add something like 20 skills for every different weapon, so we do not cycle the same 5 attacks for 80 levels. It gets old really fast. Another reason for this stale mate is the fact that half the skills we have ( And Im using my thief as an example ) simply have no practical use in PVE. Basilisk venom? 45s cooldown on 1.5s breakable stun? An Elite? No thanks I am not sure why You exactly went with this skill system, perhaps because less skills = better animation, but Id rather have had the old skill system. I also miss the signet of capture.

Now I know its a new game and everything but…and I am saying this out of love and hopes it will get better..but right now the combat feels like every other RPG game out there. You HAVE to bring back the old skill system back, although even as I write that I realize that it would probably require total system rewrite, which does not make it feasible. Well, one can hope!

Part 3: General

Too much of the game feels like zerging..for lack of better word. Playing as a warrior is alright, You have to watch out and You will survive, what with the armor and healing skills/shouts, but playing with my thief is a totally different story. 2 shot skills without visual identifications crush me. For any boss battle, melee is out of the question. Want to survive? Use a pistol on short bow. That is alright, but do not make them almost a requirement. I like to play backstab in Your face thief, however with the boss’ aoe its just not possible. Also most of the time if there are 10+ people doing an event You simply cannot see what is going on on the screen. In that case, TOO much visual identification! :P Either way those are just numbers problem and easily fixable, and I am sure it will get balanced.

Please remove the waypoint cost. Every armor in the game already feels like an Obsidian armor in terms of acquirement rate. (At least to a casual player.) There are enough gold sinks in the game, please give us back the option to explore this beautiful world. You can keep the insane costs of armor, that is ok. (The only reason my 55 has 10g is because I never bough anything and did not level any crafting, oh joy ).

In closing, I shall sum up my Christmas wishes!

1.Unique class dances
2.Unique class animations (idle,attack,etc.)
3.Unique class armor
4.The Old Skill system (Or a close variant) <—!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5.Ritualists (With the extra jewelry haircuts!) <-!!! (And the dance too!)
6.Rebalancing (combat and gold income)

I am typing this in WordPad then I shall paste it on a forum post, but for now that is it. If I recall anything else I shall update or put a 2nd post.

Anyway thank You for listening to my NOOB rant, please excuse any grammatical mistakes, much love to the GW2 team :{}:{}:{}:{} and all the players :{}.

Cleophina out!

Just wanted to add support for this suggestion! (And much for the same reasons.)
