My mesmer mask...gone FOREVER!
IMHO the HoM mask is better anyway
But I want that Angryface or Sadface!
i’ve worn my harlequins mask throughout every level of the game. i simply love mine.
I don’t think it would be troublesome to add a vendor somewhere that would sell any of your class’s starting gear.
Learned my lesson when deleting the assassins creed hood (thief starter hood). I’ve kept or plan to keep certain starting items.
The angry mask from my mesmer has a special place in my bank, followed by my guardian spauldors…the ones with the ankh like symbol, my norn necro’s facepaint…makes my eyes glow white like a comicbook persona so on and so forth.
I know your pain.
Eh, Lysserd that would be cool… Except for warrior we get?
-Normal looking lvl 10 helmet.
-Bucket looking lvl 10 helmet.
-Run of the mill lvl 10 shoulders.
What a gip. :I

Then you just wouldn’t use yours. Who knows, though, maybe someone likes the starter warrior armor. What remains true is that some other classes have unique starting pieces that we all just throw away, and might want back later. This wouldn’t be a huge implementation as it’s just a vendor in the major cities.
I had many hats/masks, like Acolyte exotic mask, but it had clippign issue. Rest was…ugly So I think, that starting masks are THE BEST masks for mesmer profession.
here’s a thought. Get a soulbound item to the mesmer that you want. Then make another mesmer. Transmute the two together and see what happens.
Lysserd, warrior starter armor: Go to any vendor in starting areas… Heck, even the vendor in LA near the crafting area 9,9;;
But there’s something i wish they had done like another mmo. Best customization model: DCUO. Once you equip it, you unlock that look on your character, and can change it any time… <:\
castlemanic, I tried to do that. I’ve put mask to my bank, but I couldn’t transmute it, because here was red information on that mask: “Soulbound to another character” or something like that.

D=, that sucks.
I wish i could think of something else, but i can;t D=.
All the character creation options should be available later in the game.
Sure, you could keep your initial one. If you realize that you can’t get a second copy before you delete it. But that doesn’t help people who chose one on creation, get to level 80, then change their mind about which they prefer.

Could you get on the character that owns the mask you want, get a headpiece that is similar to the character you want it on and transmute it to that? You should be able to stow it without it being soulbound after that.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
Transmute it to an unsoulbindable white item. Anyone try that?
you cannot trasmute this mask sadly
this is an issue many classes experience, and people often bring it up.
the starter gear shouldn’t be limited to character creation.
I agree — all unique starting gear should be sold from a vendor somewhere, so you could recover them later on if they were deleted after being replaced.
You should be able to transmutate the starter mask (from a new character) with some cheap li’l headgear you bought from the TP (on the same new character). Then combine the two headgears (looks of the mask, stats of the purchased one), and cram it directly in the bank. It will still say Soulbound, but it will be equip-able by the first character to take it out of the bank.
Using this I have all 3 Mesmer masks & the Necro Wraith Masque soulbound on my main (mostly just for collecting), the Thief Hood on my Ranger, and the Thief Headband on my Engi.
An easier way to do this (like a merchant) would be kinda nice, but it takes away from the item’s importance in the first place (not like anyone really cares though… lol).
I made the same mistake as the OP, but there was a workaround for it:
1. Create a new Mesmer with the mask that you want. (Item 1)
2. Buy a cheap white/blue mask off the TP (Item 2).
3. Transmute the Mesmer mask onto the white/blue mask to create Item 3. (Item 3 will say that it’s Soulbound, but don’t worry about that.)
4. Put Item 3 into your bank and pick it up on your main Mesmer. (Normally you shouldn’t be able to retrieve Soulbound items from other characters, but for some reason you can retrieve this item.)
5. Wear Item 3. (Or to be safe, transmute Item 3 to your main’s headgear, making Item 4.)
This was the workaround that worked for me, but ANet may have patched it by now.
I agree that there should be a much easier way to re-obtain the starter headgears if you sold/deleted it by accident, however.

well i already have my 5 slots used, and i don’t see myself spending 800 gems on another slot >.>
I think it would be cool if the class trainers could sell starter stuff like this.
Yeah, if that workaround works on masks then shouldn’t it work on all soulbound items, thus removing the necessity of soulbind? I’m curious, but lazy, has anyone tried this workaround with other soulbound items? If it does work with any soulbound item then it’ll either be fixed, or ANet would switch to account binding only.
I have a similar problem with my elementalist aura.
I never deleted it, but it glitched when transmuting before they required unequipping items, and now when I equip the item with the skin it appears in the selection screen, but not in-game.
That’s why made this suggestion some time ago:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Memento-Box-small-Digital-Deluxe-starting-gear-and-home-instance-improvement/
It’ll solve not just the problem of lost initial items, but also lost deluxe items, lost pre-order items and also give a decent reason to re-visit home, and call the home instance ‘home’; because, as the wise once said: “Home is where all your old crap is”.

Nope, I transmuted it to:
-white lvl 30 head,
-green “soulbound when used” head.
None worked, it still says “soulbound to another character”, I can’t even take that item off from my bank.
