Possible Mount Implementation
My god, do you know how many mount suggestions there are? XD Though I dont agree with all what your saying with how mounts should be added, I still agree on the general point that they should be added.
*hint *hint Arenanet?
I think Charrs should be able to have Asura ride on them. Not even trolling, being totally serious. Waypoints are a great idea, but in WvW it takes way to long to travel. Add mounts or add waypoints to every area that your world own. Also, some people say that mounts would allow you to skip a lot of bad guys, but what if you were unmounted or slowed when in combat.
No. Mounts do not belong in GW.
@Starlightpaw The only penalty for dying in WvW is the time it takes you to get back to the battle. If that was not there battles would be much longer and possibly deadlocked.
So, you’ve noticed how fast the Dolyak moves when on escort missions right? That’s your mount choice. It is literally the ONLY work animal in gw2.
In gw1 there was one of the necro baddies that rode a skeletal horse but there weren’t any horses in gw1 iirc. The other work animal was again a Dolyak. The only other animal that was ever ridden in gw1 was a giant lizard creature ridden also by a bad guy.
GW2 has deer, dolyak, and elk as the mount type animals. But your fantasy game mounts are pretty much anything that has legs right? Too bad this isn’t really a fantasy game, it’s more on the realistic side of mythology which means you get dolyaks.
Humans could ride dolyaks, Charr have vehicles, Asura have golems, Sylvari are plants so they would have to pollinate themselves across the land, and Norn well, they can transform themselves into animals so mounts are irrelevant.
edit: I guess there are cows too, but those have never really been work animals, just food.

Tell me why you don’t think they belong in GW2?
:sigh: Enough with the mount threads, it takes like 5 seconds to walk to where you need to go, stop trying to add token features from other games into this one.

More like an additional gold sink than token feature. Not sure exactly what you mean by this.
I would love mounts in WvW,
If you think about it, when your on the mount you can have a 5 set of spells, then we get mount combat like knock backs, we can even go cowboy style and shoot of the mounts lol, I would much rather have that then water combat, plus no other MMO has it yet so… meh just my opinion.
Token as in typical feature in some games like WoW or Tera. It’s not required or needed, if you want your vanity pet because frankly that is all it would be, that’s what mini’s are for. That is how it has always been implemented in Guild Wars.

I’m not sure we’re seeing eye-to-eye here. Vanity would be a side-effect, main purpose is a permanent speed boost.
It’s funny that the main argument against mounts always seems to be of the style “no, because not”… Followed by the almighty “they aren’t in lore” one, of course.
PS: I couldn’t care less about mounts being in game or not, just wanted to say that xD
We aren’t seeing eye-to-eye as I completely disagree with the idea of mounts in GW. As for permanent speed boost, that’s pretty lazy right? Nearly all classes have a variation of speed boost whether it be a utility or weapon skill and the only time you use them is to quickly get from point A to point B. THAT said maps are not so huge that your miles away from a waypoint, yes Orr as an example is more difficult then most but that is the nature of the beast.
Basically what you said is you want a speed boost to: A. allow you to farm events quicker and/or B. Recover quick enough so that a Boss’s hp in an event doesn’t regenerate because your back in combat quicker.
Obviously your having troubles with speed boosts, I’d say re-evaluate your skills as it’s not exactly difficult to progress quickly through maps. There are enough utilities, consumables to give you sufficient speed to ‘farm’ wherever you need to farm. Players have been doing it throughout Orr sufficiently without the need for mounts. If you really want to be a dedicated speed farmer, make a thief as they have a signet with a permanent 25% speed boost.
Just did a re-evaluation of my skills, was 100 miles over due according to the sticker, thanks for the reminder. OT: Down to the bare-bones of it, a mount is a perma-speed buff at a hefty cost. Why can’t I ask for that? And you still haven’t given me a straight-forward answer… Why don’t YOU want mounts? You just gave me ways to get around not having them and how other people farm Orr, which is great and all, if I didn’t utilize all that already. Creating an alt simply for a speed buffed farmer just doesn’t fit into my schedule, as I’m sure for many other casual players going for their legendary. Give me something solid here. Change my mind.
Why we don’t need mounts:
1. You say mounts are good because they give you a speed buff. Why do we need speed buffs? The whole point of the game is that you walk to wherever you’re going, enjoying the scenery, killing people, and doing hearts and events along the way. And if you really do need to get somewhere quick, we got waypoints.
2. Have to say that one again: WE HAVE WAYPOINTS. That should be enough to trump any mount argument. They do exactly the same thing, so why would we ever need both?
3. People are saying mounts are stylish, mounts are cool-looking. That’s no reason to add them.
4. Mounts would clutter up the world. Even if mounts aren’t allowed in cities, could you imagine how mounts would look in big events or, dear god, WvW? If you thought the zergs were bad now, just wait until you see them on mounts…
5. Mounts would be a lot of work for little gain. I think we all can agree that Anet has plenty of work to do (like getting rid of that gear progression…wink wink). Why should they waste their time on something we really don’t need?
My two cents.
Waypoints are cool and all except the cost really adds up. I’m just saying mounts would be a cool option in having to pay ONLY ONCE ( as opposed to countless times using waypoints). This is my personal #1 reason for mounts. Mounts are casual friendly as well IMHO. Like 10-15g for the skill, seperate little utility button and it summons mount/ speed buff, depending on race. 30% increase or something like that.
I will give my View since you asked for it Diabolus. I do not believe mounts should be in the game for a few reasons, the ones outlined by Dreamwalker above. Also personally I am a lore fan in the game, and mounts where used very sparingly in guild wars 1, only the stone summit were notable for even considering mounting creatures, they used the lesser tundra giant and the dolyak but they were able to because physiologically they were much lighter and more capable of harnessing them. No other race: Norn, Charr or Human used them, and even the Asura as advanced as they where used golemancy for automatons in industrial applications. Their was a minor form of mass transit in the Luxon Armada using the Larger species of turtles in the Jade Sea but hardly viable as a mount. With the expansion of the races through Tyria and the logical relocation or even extinction of large species what could be used as a mount?
Their is the argument that “oh we can have golems or iron legion constructions” but when does peoples own indulgence overrule the practical application of this system?
YES the waypoint system needs to redone price wise, even if it was a simple as making waypointing within the same map cost nothing, but Waypointing to another map cost silver. Again though the NEED vs’s the WANT of conformity with other games seems a bit indulgent. The only reason you want it is because games like WoW have it, and for your own speed boost indulgence, is that alright? I don’t think so.
Some people say the Lore of this is irrelevant, if someone is as ignorant as to believe that then they should just go back to tetris. The reality is that this is a SEQUEL to a game that made the story important and the sooner people realise that the lore and story is what makes guild wars what it is, the sooner people appreciate the game they are playing instead of complaining about features from OTHER games it doesn’t have.
I could argue till I am blue in the face, but the reality is that you already have your mind focused purely on what you want and that anyone else’s opinion is irrelevant, otherwise you wouldn’t have even started the post.
I really don’t want them at all but at least have it so you can’t mount in a town. I still think it clutters up all player areas, though. I don’t miss mounts at all personally.
Those are valid points and an ignorant assumption, at best, in your conclusion. From your “going back to tetris” argument, one could say go play GW1, it’s time for GW2 to evolve. But that’s not the point. The point is we now have a valid argument for why we shouldn’t have mounts, and THAT is the reason behind starting a topic, getting both ends of the spectrum. Now from a lore standpoint, there are ways around adding mount like features without adding actual mounts. For example, charr can sprint faster, Asura can maybe get a new technology that transforms them into a fast ball of energy, norn could maybe transform into a leopard, Etc. I know lore may be a big deal to you, but calling people ignorant because they believe that mounts can easily tie into lore somehow is well, just ignorant.
Hi Little puppy
edit: I guess there are cows too, but those have never really been work animals, just food.
Do yu refer to cows as being animals and as can be pets? I would like to have a cow on my ranger, will that ever be possibel? Heres what skills I would like on my cow
1 Ranged – throw your horns at target
2inflict a poison cloud of kitten and flies (area of effect)
3 draw enemies to that spot
4 throw yourself (the cow) at foes – aka blast finish tem of.
Poll anyone? No, second thoughts. I think that has to be in a nother game. (or maybe have a area for kitten content?)
I don’t mind having them or not. It seems like most of the anti-mount people have an instinctive aversion to mounts because of their association with WoW or other typical MMOs.
No no no, no mounts in this game. Everything is perfect the way it is
Ditto —no mounts, just make the waypoint transfers cost less.
Yeah, thank you Anet for making NO mounts in Guild Wars 2.
I didn’t expect it, but it actually feels great.
And I played Warcraft for 5 years, owning a bunch of mounts. Now I understand how much it is better off without them
