My main has a name i’d like to reuse for an alt or two, i don’t want to add anything to that name, i don’t want to use a variation of it and i also don’t want to delete my main (done that 4 times already to not “lose” that name). Alternatively make it so we can swap around names between chars on the same account.
I’d even pay for such a feature.

Different characters have different names for a reason. If you want to keep deleting and remaking to try out a different storyline or character just because you like the name…. well, that is just silly.

Some people become attached to the names/handles they use online, nothing wrong with that.

I understand where Cinder is coming from. For me I have a game “personality” or “character” that I would like players to come to know across all my characters. This way people remember you and your good deeds more. It also helps in guilds by not having players ask “who are you again?”.

It seems Anet does not like the idea as much as some players do since they don’t allow numbers in names and such. That’s fine, I guess they want to keep the game more as a roleplaying thing. But as I said for some of us players we would like to be known as 1 person accross all our alts. Yes I know the game displays alt char names and such, but it still can cause some confusion for some people who don’t have the best of memories. :P

For now Cinder all I can suggest is you do what I have done. Add the following to my main char name:

ll
III
IIII
V
VI
VII
VIII

Yes I have 8 chars, 1 of every class and I have all races covered. Also I used the letter L in it’s non capital form as it looks the best in game in this format. The reason I used llll (and will use Vllll if I make another alt) instead of the correct lV is because in game that would look like this: Iv and Ix. Not exactly the best look lol………….

Sadly even making it look as best as I could it still looks a little bit funny if you look real close at my name ingame as my 3rd char will look like this for example:

ILL – however the L’s bottom line part is VERY small and unless you look real close you can’t see it.

Yes but you have to show some imagination here. Your choice is constantly deleting and remaking to save a name or giving the names a twist so that you can hold on to your characters and actually make cash and get far in the game. If you are not bothered about proceeding far into the game then why worry about what your characters are called?

I’ll assume Cinder is the name you are “attached” to, why not try “Cinder of Elements” for an Elementalist, “Cindero Roboto” for an Asuran golemancer, or even “Protection of Cinder” for a Guardian. All it takes is imagination and with GW2 your friends can find you by your account name so it does not matter what your characters are called.

It’s more of a “speaking proper English” thing. I for one am glad I don’t see “D3r3k dr80nnn XX” running around the map.

Unfortunately you’re going to have to . Its not like its that hard to come up with unique names for each character . I do wonder what your attachment to said name is though seeing that you would want to use it on 8 characters and even pay for such a feature .

This would be a good idea.
But every character would need to have their own unique name.
And then have something like a choice to use 1 of the names you already have chosen as a “Display Name” of some kind.
Edit:
This would just be adding a option not making everyone chose ONE name to have as a display name.

just give your characters a first and last name and make the last name the same accross all. i sympathize with the op ive become attached to the name “lyfe” its my clan and all my characters last name.

Well that would work if you haven’t created any characters or started leveling yet.

It’s a name with just 3 letters, you can’t get those anymore, all possible combinations are taken. It kinda proves you’ve been there from the beginning, yeah i know most people really don’t care about that but after all this game is all about cosmetics and a 3 letter name will soon be way more rare than a legendary.

Then just be proud of that character. Running around with several characters with the same name doesn’t make sense in terms of uniqueness.

You could keep the same 1st name and change the surname to reflect the char

Jose the Bold (Warrior)
Jose the Sly (Thief)
Jose the … you get the idea.
