It will also bred elitism and pointless stuff like that.
Just because someone have good gear does not mean they are good players for that matter.
It is after all fully possible to buy a full set of exotic gear without ever leaving the starter area if one wanted to.

This has been suggested many times before.
Personally, I don’t agree with it, as it promotes elitism and people telling others how to play their characters.
From experience, you’ll find that the majority of the userbase feel the same way.
If they were to ever implement this (and I’m sure they’ve said in the past that they never will), the only way it would work would be as an opt-in choice, so that if you don’t want people to see your equipment, they can’t.
Even then, there would be pressure to reveal gear and a lot of people would get kicked from PUGs for refusing to do so.
The way it is now results in a much more relaxed community feel.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
No.
My gear set up, my aesthetics set up, my business.
I disagree 100% with this suggestion. My stats and gear are my business, not some leeching, speedrunning elitists’.
"lol, no asc gear? Bye nap"
No thanks.

Like Mungrul said. This would make dungeon runners screen PuG groups for their equipment rather than by their skill. I dissagree about this option. Should you have the option, however, to choose wether other people could view your equipment, I suppose it would acceptable.

Yeah, I mentioned that as it’s the way Age of Conan does things; there you can choose whether or not your gear’s on display for all and sundry.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
And why would these people that want to see the joiners gear accept that?
They will simply say: Enable inspecting or leave.

Which is the point I made in my previous point anyway.
I’m still 100% against allowing gear inspection of any kind.
I can’t really balk at linking of equipment, as that’s incredibly useful, but more than that is not necessary.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

So what?
1. not all teams would ask this.
2. their choice to team with you or not.
3. your choice to team with them or not.
4. only 4 others in a team. If these 4 won’t team with you, is that the end of the world? There are no other pugs left? You’re ego / self esteem is that badly damaged already? You’re the only casual gamer in GW2?
sigh.. so many ninja leechers out there

They added this with observer mode in PvP, and it’s pretty cool. It’d be neat to see it in PvE. I’ve got nothing to hide.

This has been requested several times, and shot down several times. I have often been most vocal against it, and my opinion hasn’t changed.
Introducing the option to inspect gear, would instantly turn it into a requirement for any dungeon. There would immediately be gear inspections outside every dungeon, and it would promote cooky-cutter builds.
Cooky-cutter builds are the death of build experimentation. It forces every player to adopt the same builds and the same equipment, or they’ll have to find another group. That is why I am totally against it.

People have every right to control their group composition if they want to. However, anti-skippers have been told to go out of their way to form non-skip pugs, or join a guild to get what they want. Just so, players who impose gear requirements should also have to go out of their way to get what they want if they are creating special requirements to play with them.
Those other games all have content gated by gear. The only content like that in GW2 is high-level fractals, and a simple, “Please link AR gear” using an existing feature can determine if someone has AR. Any requirements for gear other than that (for example, Berserker for speed runs) are player-imposed and not deserving of a special feature.
Sorry, privacy trumps convenience. No.

It isn’t the function of the view armor they are complaining about, it is the mentality of the gamers. Allowing this mechanic could eventually lead to it being a more widely accepted method of grouping (See Aion). At first it sounds fine, but the game can actually change because of it, and elitism is not something the majority of us ever want to see in this game. As it is there is so many things that are walls or barriers to elitist scenarios and playstyles. Arenanet took away most of the elitists toys, hence why we don’t deal with them as much in this game as we do others. Lets not bring toys back.
And the whole “leechers” argument… is ridiculous. Your gear is not as important as your skill, people need to stop categorizing MF wearers as leechers just because of their gear choice. You can start the argument off with the whole stat complaint, but in the end it just shows everyone the only ones complaining are the elitist types. It is on every player to learn skill, if they are in MF gear or Berserker or Knights it doesn’t matter. But that’s a different discussion.

Never, because WE, the player, can decide wether other players can inspect OUR stuff. If they want to see what I’m wearing, they can ask. Also offending people who do not agree with you is not the best way to promote your idea.

We’ve been down this slippery slope in Gw1 before, and it didn’t work out too well back then. Players tend to equate the flavor-of-the-month to skill, which of course isn’t the case.
Recently I was in a group where a fellow necromancer was highly critical of my custom toughness-focused build, to which his condition-mancer build (fresh off the internet) was clearly superior. Not that I was performing badly mind you. It was simply him bragging about his DPS. Rarely have I seen a fellow necromancer die that often during a run. But this is the sort of mentality that gear-inspection would encourage.
People have to get it out of their heads that they can judge a player’s skill or effectiveness, by their gear. It simply isn’t so. And I realize magic find is a big frustration to many players, but there are other solutions to that.

^This!
For some reason people think that a strong build equals skill.
~Sincerely, Scissors
A build is only as strong as the person playing it. And people who do not understand why the build works, are far worse players than any random player cooking up something themselves. It would almost be a reason to keep players with specialized gear and builds away from your group, rather than seek them.
But in the end, what we want is just for players to play together. This sort of gear inspection does exactly the opposite. Its not going to prevent you from grouping up with dreadful players.

^this. Gear is never a good indicator of how good a player is. It only shows how much time was spent into that character to get the appropriate stats for that player to play easy mode guild wars 2.
The only inspection I would ever want to see added is the name of the skin applied. No name of the rune, no name of the insignia, no stats or color, just a simple “Reinforced Scale” or “Vigil” or whatnot. Honestly though, if I see someone wearing something that looks so cool I don’t know what it is and want to know, I’ll just ask the person what that rad gear is.
Outside of that, yes, I agree with everyone else – “Gear Inspection” = Bad

No. It breeds elitism. We are all playing together, lets not divide the player base with gear checks.
