Drop rate not what I thought it was
Don’t blame others for your own gamble, even how hard it is to understand.
I gambled 4 Endless Tonic in the Mystic Forge in hope to get the Toy Maker Endless Tonic, and I got some lame Endless tonic which will be tomorrow’s toy instead.
yeah but dude, i expect a little more when i put in real money you know?
What was wrong with the system at halloween?? Buy the 3 pack and buy it agian if you want the rare.
This system is nothing more than Anets greed! I feel really betrayed.
There is no excuse for this terrible drop rate system,

You knew there was a chance on getting something, as much as I did. I feel pretty sad over the loss of my 4 Endless Tonics as well but there’s nothing I can do, really.
I don’t think ArenaNet are that kind of company who would delete my Endless Golem Tonic to give my other 4 Tonics back.
I really agree with OP, its super frustrating, I myself spent 120$ on mystery boxes before I hit all 3 the minis (and 3 spares to mystic forge a quaggan)
They have listened to customer feedback and made the weapon skins non gamble, but they now made the minis supergamble :s
Good grief,
You mean you didn’t get the hint after the whole holloween debacle. The problem with the system thats in place is that people STILL spend money on it. If you stopped throwing your hard earned at an inherently corrupt system they might actually change it.
No pity for self affliction.

I think the problem here is that things are as they are, every event has been like this and it’s never been fun.
If it doesn’t make people happy than I think it should be changed, nobody is asking for things to be free but at the very least the normal scenario ’shouldn’t be’ that people can be willing to waste their entire gold saving + gems and not ending up with the few things they wanted out of the whole deal.
Same for the tonics, wasting non regather-able materials for only a chance to get the logical thing is just wrong and a very horrible precedence to set for every other new MF recipe, how encouraged would people be to try new recipes after this? I definitely don’t
I disagree, if you could pay for gems and then get something worth a lot of gold in 1 or 2 attempts people would complain about : “Pay to win”. So basically, don’t moan if you lose a gamble
Wow, did you spent so much money for a mini? Anet is getting rich if a lot of people are doing this!
You new the risks, you spent the money. This is not ANet’s fault at all. Sorry about the bad luck, but that’s what happens. You need to come to terms with a RNG before you make that expense.
It actually is ANet’s fault for introducing the gamble in the first place. The fault doesn’t lie solely with the player – ANet is cashing in on people’s want for these minis. Yes, they shouldn’t have gambled so much, but saying it isn’t ANet’s fault at all is naive imo.
Preying on people’s innate gambling nature is one of the most questionable ways to make money and the reason why gambling is illegal in a lot of places.
OP, while I don’t agree with anet making this RNG, I can’t believe you’re saying they are greedy because of your fail. If anything, it’s your fault for gambling your week’s wage. Don’t blame it on anet, it’s just asinine! No sympathy for you.
All minis should be able to drop from end chest in dungeons. Well make them Rare chance like that including the rare minis. Thats my opinion which some people will disagree on.
As for the Endless Toymaker Tonic i was very lucky that my 8 year old was playing on his character on my wifes account and it dropped from a present within Snowball pvp event lol. He gave it to me. First time ive had abit if luck with loot.
As for people buying the chests. this is the reason i dont buy them too much of a gamble for the money.
I agree with what most of what has been said here. While I disagree with the gamble that comes with getting the mini’s, it’s your own fault for spending that much money. And the worse part is that people will continue to spend money on the gamble, despite complaining it’s stupid.
I learned my lesson during the Halloween event. Spent what money I had allotted on black lion keys, only to get nothing and regretted just not buying two packs of mini’s. This time around I allotted money specifically for mini’s, and now those are RNG. I would buy a weapon skin if they were any good… oh well. Maybe one day in the future everything will just be directly buyable. Right.
You have what you have because you do what you do.
You do realise that all you people spending so much money on boxes isn’t going help change the system right? It’s because of people like you that we have these stupid boxes in the first place. Stop buying them. Then Anet will have to come up with proper ways to sell us good items rather than offering us a huge gamble.

Agreed, I learned my lesson after the first event. Never EVER buy boxes.

The only thing they said about those Mystery Boxes was “uncommon chance to get one of the three minipets, and a very rare chance to get the Foostivoo”.
Is 1% an “uncommon chance”? Srsly? Isn’t it being greedy?
If they clearly stated “1% chance”, i bet they’d get less then half the incomes from the Gemstore.
My post about the true nature of this was removed because Arena net did not approve.
I used no profanity, I spoke in clear language, but it was not considered ‘constructive’. In fact, I was pointing out what should be obvious.
In the United States you must be of major status (not a minor) to do things in person which are permitted in this game without any verification of age.
If it wasn’t obvious to users at the time, here’s the constructive side: Don’t let your kids play in the forge. It’s fire, and you can think about the long term effects of putting hundreds of in game gold that transfers more or less directly into real dollars into a forge random number generator to see what you get back from it.

Gambling! I never gamble unless I know I can afford to spend the money. Therefore, I allocate a very small portion of my income (in game collected gold not real money) to gamble.
There is an old saying, “once bitten, twice shy” and that goes for the way the TP seems to be run for items only obtainable by using real life money.
If you can afford to throw it away and decide you want to take a chance, then by all means you are welcome to do so.
Personally, I refuse to purchase anything from the TP that will not provide a decent return for my money. I do not purchase BLC Keys because I’ve not seen anything worthwhile in those chests. I’ve used in-game proceeds to purchase some things but have seen that the odds regarding those chests are stacked against me as a customer.
Reminds me of the gambling casinos the world over, they always make sure the house gets a bigger than half chance of winning against the gambling public.
Personally, I’m not spending a single dollar over the purchase price until the February WvW update.

I’ve spent some money on the Gem Store. I prefer to buy things that are a benefit (like bank tabs or char slots). I also try to convert gold to gems if I can. I’ve only grabbed 20 of the Wintersday boxes (out of every box ever offered til now) and didn’t get any minis or weapon skins from them. I won’t lie and say I haven’t thought about trying more but I know better.
It is unfortunate that ArenaNet is resorting to lotto bags. They are always a rip-off, and are designed to get as much money out of people who “need” to collect everything.
But really, can you blame them? People keep dumping crazy amounts of money on these things, despite the fact that they know their chances of getting what they want are low.
I personally will never buy an item from them unless I know exactly what I am getting(ie: bank/character slots, etc…)
It’s something that Korean/Japanese/Mobile gaming companies do. It works because of the “whales” that must have every single item and possess the disposable income to do so.
Earlier in the year it was determined that something known as Complete Gacha (which is different from regular Gacha) was illegal in Japan. A Complete Gacha is where you have to obtain either the entire gacha collection or certain parts of a “set” in order to win a grand prize that you can’t obtain otherwise. The Japanese mobile gaming industry felt like they were going to be dealt a crushing blow (upwards to 20% net profits lost from having to cease that sort of stuff) but they seem to have survived just fine with the regular gacha.
I would have found it interesting if they had done to the minis what they did to the weapon skins (let them be buyable flat out, make a ticket to redeem for one of your choosing from the box if you think you are lucky).
You spent a weeks wages on chests? 85 dollars? I mean, wow. I’d be more concerned with spending an entire week of wages on a video game with nothing to show for it than anything.
gee and I thought running 1000 chest runs to try and get a mini polar bear, that i didnt get in gw1 was fun, its always always always RANDOM so don’t be stupid and spend real money on chance you are bound to lose it is a game after all, and part of being in gw’s is it is always random on drops so that every player gets the same chance.
i expect a little more when i put in real money
Well thank god this isn’t the case and let’s hope it never will be!

But you could trade it… so it’s okay, if you’re aren’t lucky, you could buy it (if you had enough ecto ). These stupid boxes are the biggest bullkitten (-> account bound and gambling… great combo…) and shows how stupid players are. You buy it, Arena see, it’s okay, so we got every event more of this BS and Arena get rich…
Account Bound and Gambling… -.-
Ahhh, the lure of rares and collectables. I started UO in ‘98 with UO:2A and remember when a new rare was discovered the rush to farm it. After UO:R made Tram the area round West Brit bank was the ’show off area’. When they made the blue glowy ice worm staff it looked like everyone was waving round blue neon tubes! I see peoples mind set has not changed, now its micro purchases rather than monthly cash so it seems to hurt more. Relax, it’s a game. Just remember its all pixels at the end of the day! It’s not quite the same a gambling in a casino, as here the odds are unknown to the gambler, but set a limit and stop when you reach it, just don’t throw good money after bad because of hopeful thinking.
Welcome to the CASINO! Throw your money away here >>>>>
If you don’t want to waste your money on stupid RNG boxes then maybe, I dunno… DON’T BUY THEM?
The more stupid people we have spending a weeks wages on RNG kitten, the more RNG kitten Anet are going to add.
Just a crazy idea here I’ll throw out for consideration….
If you want the minis why not just buy the minis?

OK, for the 2001st time – there are two sets of Wintersday minis.
One is the Tixx set, which can be crafted or bought.
The other set are only available through the real cash gamble boxes, and are account bound so they can’t even be traded.
L2Read before posting please.

Nowhere in the OPs post is there mention of two different sets. I’m not going to go reading multiple threads to come back here and fix the OPs problem.
85 CHESTS LATER
Come on Anet, iv just spent a weeks wages on this event and youve really screwed me with these drop rates.
You make $85 a week and spent it on a RNG. If it was that critical why in the world didnt you stop at say chest 30 or so?
Just a crazy idea here I’ll throw out for consideration….

If you don’t know anything about the minis, why did you post in this thread?
Not knowing about the 2 separate sets shows that you haven’t read:
1 ) The event announcement
2) The wiki page
3) Any Wintersday thread about the minis
Then you come in and make blatantly inaccurate statements about a situation you obviously haven’t looked into. You aren’t contributing anything, and you obviously don’t pay attention to the minis at all. Why are you posting in this thread?

You are right. I was wrong. ahem. let me contribute to this thread.
“OMG ANet took all my money against my will and its not fair. Millions of people are leaving because of this epic fail.”
There I contributed to the OPs topic.
It would seem to me that in the end, the best situation would a happy and satisfied customer that thought spending money gave a return for enjoyment and fun. I think the account bound RNG could use some work. The Halloween minis offered a solution that left me feeling much more satisfied. I don’t know how the bottom line profits compare, in the short or long term, but I do know, that even if I spend money, eventually I will run into a lack of money or disappointment with loot acquisition, from the RNG method of the Mystery Boxes. The allure is there and it is very tempting, and even fun, for awhile. Buyer beware, fer sure.
