The random gifts in the world now contain those little monsters, my question is how do i kill them instead of dying horribly (42 engineer with rifle.)
Close range=5+stacks of confuse and non-stop barrage of ranged fire.
Medium range grenade kit doesn’t really helps out.
Not exactly very fond of idea going full bunker or switch characters just to get those.
Any ideas?

I am a 41 warrior and opened a gift box in Diessa plateau that released level 69 princesses. One shotted. Tried again, level 69 skritt. One shotted. It’s a level 20’ish zone, and I over level it significantly. Are the gift boxes only for high level players? I can’t set up any abilities I want to use. So I share Morgax confusion. I kept trying to come up with a rotation until I realized the level of the mobs.

What’s the secret?

Skritt are ok, they drop extra packages sometimes. toys don’t drop enough extra goodies to be worth the effort to kill them.

My thief can’t take a single one of them down before the actual Present Reward box despawns, much less all five. Also the kitten with the level 69 enemies should have had an immediate hotfix as soon as it was reported. The very high odds that these boxes will unleash a pack of doomsday monsters that, relative to the zone they’re in, are more powerful than Zhaitan should have had an immediate hotfix the moment it was reported. And the fact that I’ve managed to get that result on around 25% of the 30+ boxes I’ve opened so far suggests that they didn’t do a single damn scrap of internal playtesting. It’s hard to believe how absurdly BAD these people are at running an MMO. Does anyone have any clue what actually happened to the team from GW1? Because none of that experience and knowledge seems to have carried over.

Those Princess Dolls are creepy

It’s like something I’d expect to see in Silent Hill.

There have been a few times with no gift from the box that goes boom or from the mobs (toys or skritt), cut your losses and run when you want to. If someone else is doing the fighting it is always nice to stick around and help, hate people who just run through while I am in the middle of a fight, doesn’t matter if I am winning it.

Umm…….they hit me for 8-9K and I have 3K hit points. It is a level 15-25 zone. There is no running in and grabbing a box. I have tried. Repeatedly. So 6 level 69 princesses x 9k = you aren’t running anywhere.

Most imbalanced stuff since release. They should let only 2-3 of them spawn or reduce their damage and hitpoints a lot. Even with 2 people a problem. Toy Ventari were a lot easier and there already a lot of people complained.

Also there should be more melee attacking toys. Should be a mix and not only 1 toy type. Getting ranged by 6 of them is killing you fast especially if you are playing a class that usually tries to kite the mobs a bit… now they are kiting you. Lol. And impossible to pull only 1 of them. They all attack together.

Might try to ask the next group to farm for the achivement in the instanced dungeon. Seems easier to me and you have the group there.

lol. I just dagger stormed them and when it ended I was half HP so I used my heal, but the 12 stacks of confusion just exploded and I was downed. I could get back up but yeah they’re pretty crazy. :s

Yeah. Killing them fast(if you have AoE and can mangage to attack ranged or go in there and stay alive long enough) seems the best solution since you can’t pull them 1 by 1 anyways. Trying with other classes a bit later.

Are they immune to confusion? I had 6 stacks on one never saw it effect the doll but it killed the crap out of me.

Also annoying that they have 4 stacks of boons permanently on them. Lol. Just tried with guardian. Guardian and engineer not good so far. Trying elementalist next.

Don’t attack them if you get confused. The reason you die so fast is because you’re killing yourselves…

I just wait for a few other players to come along. Its quite easy with 2 or 3 players. Others are out there huntuing the boxes too and the boxes are marked on the maps as well so it is usually a very short wait.

So I open a box in WvW and these things have Protection, Fury, Regeneration, and 18 stacks of might.

And they apply confusion and hit like trucks.

Not attacking while they have confusion on you… yeah. But then you need either to run away(they are going out of combat and fully regenerating then) or just stand there and try to dodge until confusion is away. And you can’t dodge everything. Still slowly taking damage and then maybe the next confusion will income soon.

Don’t know how they could make them that overpowered ha ha. But still there are a few other days left. Lets see if the other toys are easier or if they increase difficulty even more.

I the last ones will be champs and then 5-6 of them from one gift box ha ha.

The best way to kill them (as an engineer) is to set your turrets and deactivate your skill 1… why? you will kill yourself. With other classes try to spam your condition dmg skill since confusion doesn’t affect it since you aren’t activating a skill and you are dealing dmg to them. So, try to spam your CD skill before getting confusion, if you do try to “shake it off” or just stop attacking until it finishes. The CD of that skill is like 8-9 secs and all of the dolls will use it at the same time.

Also don’t just take the boxes and run, the respawn time will be higher and no one wants to run around and see a bunch of mobs ruining their exploration.

Mount Maestrom Magmatic Waypoint think it is bugged. Box spawned only the dolls who were impossible to kill, no prezzie ever appeared. Few minutes later they disappeared and box appeared again. Repeated, no gifties, killer dolls who rampaged and killed most everyone in nearby camp (that was kinda funny since that time I ran away and just watched the mayhem). When I came back they were gone, box had respawned and when I opened it this time only one doll but it took myself and one of the elementals who took exception to her mouthiness to take her down. Talk about the Bride(s) of Chuckie!

Those dolls are…OP. I can solo them…on my lvl 80 ele in 1-15 zones… Based on that experience(got downed the first time, totally did not see that O.O coming), I’ll be avoiding gift boxes in higher zones…

Made my way down to the Avernan Waypoint in Mt. Maestrom and that box spawned skritt but again no prezzies. Killed the skritt and they only had the usual skritt stuffs – no holiday stuff. At least the one doll I managed to kill had a sweater on her….

Get a mesmer with full condition removal, traited with glamors. I can solo a mob of them if I’m very careful. There’s way too many that spawn though, especially for the lower zones. A half dozen at once is just too many.

I’m so thankful I went and finished my monthly yesterday when the OP mobs just had retaliation since it meant I could take my level 80 in full exotics to a newbie zone and kill them dead and more dead.

Since those stupid presents are iffy on rewards at best and have very OP mobs in them, I’ve decided they don’t exist anymore. It’s just a weird graphical bug that comes up as I’m running around.

With my warrior I use rifle and sword. Bleed em dry.

lol, though I’ve been convinced. This will be one of the 2 mini pets i make simply b/c they’re awesome little mobs with awesome atks. Princess wand shooting heat seeking stars and banshee cries.

This issue is present on all the maps, seems to me. I encountered 31 level Ventari and Skritt in 1-15 zone (Plains of Ashford). And, yes, some boxes in Diessa Plateau spawn 69 level mobs.

I’ve found that they die easiest from ground targeting. I leave rings of fire and stack it with poison. Anything with a large surface space to include them all. You’re still going to have a hard time, but not completely impossible. It also helps to use nearby mobs as a scapegoat. Do NOT kill nearby mobs before you open the present. The dolls will attack the mob, giving you an opening for attack.

Then just dodge roll twice while the condition damage does it’s magic and they’re pretty much all down to one hit or already dead.

I’ve come across the blighters in Caledon Forest, it took me a while to find the right skill combo to use (on my level 35 engie), which basically resulted in using 3 turrets as cannon fodder and spam grenades from a distance. I also unintentionally pulled a group of the dolls inside Caledon Haven at one point… the Lionguard never stood a chance.

Is anyone else having problems with the game freezing up on them on the princess dolls? It’s happening to me over and over. The skritt and ventari are fine but 9 times out of 10 my game freezes while fighting the princess dolls.

Got a good laugh at my wife wiping on the dolls. Good lesson on confusion lol…

The answer is, don’t bother. Just grab the present and run.

I don’t find I struggle with them. The reference character I use is a Guardian, though I have various strategies that can be used with various heroes.

My best advice is if you wish to retreat, look to various skills that get you in and out of combat quickly:

Thieves and Mesmers, I should not have to explain.
Elementalists have plethora of tools, but the most obvious are lightning flash and mist form.
Guardians can use shouts like hold the line, retreat will give you enough personal survivability. The shield will also work, as will the reflection wall to deflect projectiles.
Warriors, a single invulnerability stance should be enough.
Necromancers can utilize spectral walk, but should have enough natural HP/Shroud to endure the punishment anyway.

With 2 dodge rolls and help from a few skills, grabbing the present and running should never become an issue.

I don’t even bother anymore. After opening one in a level 20 zone that was full of level 69’s and spending 20 silver traveling around trying to get to these presents before someone questing in the area grabs them while i’m traveling I’m done with that. I get more presents from the snowball pvp and it’s fun, not some super tedious run through of the zones.

So you don’t find that you struggle with them… because you don’t struggle with them, you just run away.

I can generally kill them just fine as long as I have a way to summon a pet or two. As long as I don’t get 10+ stacks of confusion cast on me every 5 seconds, I can actually damage them as fast as they damage me (and, unlike them, I can heal, so that’s usually enough to tip the scales). If I’m playing a class with no pets, the best trick I found is to aggro a couple of mobs (deer, wargs, spiders, whatever), run through the middle of the dolls, and hope they start attacking those mobs instead. Then just proceed as above.

For an engineer, if you can’t enlist some nearby creature as a disposable tank, drop as many turrets as possible (including Supply Drop) and hopefully some of the dolls’ attacks will be directed at the turrets instead of you.

I had been just avoiding the dolls, but I seen an engineer set up the turrets and kill them. Who said engi’s were useless!

And half the times you’ve just killed yourself because the first thing they do is put 2 stacks of confusion on you (each – so up to 12).

They have more than enough time to cast it while Churning Earth is channelling, even if your Earthquake hit all of them (which it didn’t, because they spread out beyond Earthquake’s range after spawning, and are immune to CC until they’ve done that).

As elementalist it’s generally simpler to summon your two elementals (either stone or water – they last about the same since the water elementals will heal each other) just before opening the box. That way most of the dolls will attack them (and cast confusion on them) instead of you, and after that you can kill them in pretty much any way you want (as long as you’re fast enough).

That’s the problem, mobs that are intended to be taking 1-1 can have things like Confusion or Retaliation or other “we can fight you but you can’t fight back” abilities, but mobs that come in concentrated packs of 5-6 should NEVER have these sorts of abilities.

Why is it that the versions of these mobs that are in the 5-man instanced dungeon are soooo much easier to take out than the ones that are soloed in the open world? I know they have pipe dreams about players teaming up to take these down, but out of the dozens that I’ve opened, only 2-3 of them have had anyone else around. The zones are just not that densely populated and the boxes either need to be scaled to solo players, or scalable to fit the number of players around.

Yeah, good luck. I’ve managed to solo a 5-spawn of them a couple of times on my ranger, but only if nothing, and I mean nothing, goes wrong. Send in the pet, let them dump all their bleeds and confuses onto it, swap pet, let them dump all their bleeds and confuses onto me, use a condition-dump ability, and then hope to take them down before they recharge or hope that it takes them long enough to hit me with it again that I can dump them onto a fresh pet. So it works maybe 1 time in 3. On any other character? Forget about it; if I don’t have at least one partner, it’s not do-able.

Aside from the fact that they hit like a truck because of the perma-buffs on them, it doesn’t even help to not attack them during the confusion attack … try that, and all 5 of them hit you with bleeds, like around 9 to 10 stacks of it. Use a condition dump, they just reapply it a couple of seconds later.

I’m glad somebody else asked this, I’d considered coming in here and making the same point, only as a complaint, not a question. Considering that these things even spawn in zones where some of the players are too low to have even one condition dump ability? They’re ridiculously over-powered, I think.

The skritt are mostly easy. The toy Ventaris are annoying, but doable. The Princess dolls are nuts.

Just use an engineer – drop two turrets and launch the hounds of belthaazar before opening ;sit down and enjoy the show – job done

Lol, these events are great if you don’t do them. Stay on course leveling and whatnot. Ignore the pretty little boxes.

Yesterday I was stupid enough popping a gift that was stationed beside a skill Challange I haden’t done.

Out came the rabid dolls so I had to take them out :P

What I did (with Elementalist), scepter and focus:
- Concentrate on one doll at a time, move in and attack at burn it as much as possible.
- Run away, dodgeroll untill some seems to reset.
- If you are taking to much damage switch to earth and use the Invurnable skill (5).
- Repeat!

They die eventually and it is absolutely not worth it.

Necro wells seem made for these little nightmares – well of power to convert confusion to retaliation, well of corruption to strip the boons and smash some cinderellas!

I’m a level 80 Guardian and clear these presents while clearing maps. Its pretty easy. Since I’m an Asuran, I like to hop on top of them and pretend to be an elf for 5-10 seconds saying “Do not pop the present whilst the elf remains on it.” Even though there is rarely anyone by. Once I’ve had my fun though, I pop a stability skill, put down a field or two, pull out my greatsword, pop the present, and dominate the wee lil devils inside. Occasionally one or two escapes the full extent of my wrath and survives but at that point they just take a few hits to kill.

I’ve been around all zones except for the Ascalon areas other than Fireheart and never found an overleveled toy, I guess it must be in Plains of Ashford and/or Diessa Plateau that they spawn, try Norn/Human areas I’ve never seen overleveled toys there and I’ve gone all over those maps.

Now about the toys, a few things I noticed.
First, they begin very close to each other, stability is great so you are not pushed back, then lots of AoE skills work wonders. Also AoE interrupts make the battle easy.

Second, they don’t begin the fight with lots of boons but get the boons later, so it is important to kill them as quickly as possible, try burst damage builds with lots of firepower, if they start their boon stacking they are very hard to kill, Protection + Regeneration makes them very tough. They all use different boons so killing at least a few will reduce their boons considerably.

Third, their attacks can be dodged or avoided while circle strafing around them, this means, if you have lots of confusion and no means to remove it, run around them, while dodging, until your skills recharge and/or the confusion ends.

Fourth, mobs and toys don’t get along well, don’t kill all the mobs around a present, instead make them fight each other!

On my Ele I start in Air Attunement → Armor of Earth → Shocking Aura (for Fury) → Switch to Fire → Ring of Fire → Switch to Earth → Earthquake → Ring of Earth → Churning Earth. It’s a very long combo but will destroy the lower level toys all of the time, it takes them a while to move, and they don’t always move while under fire.
