Launch Time?
The longer-term problem is that Arenanet is getting a reputation for being unprofessional.
I believe you are the liar. I have yet to see them act unprofessionally not have I seen an evidence they have. You on the other hand have a history of making false accusations and claims, while offering no proof of your claims. Which is unprofessional.
They have continually given us exact times of when content would be released (e.g. with Halloween, the Lost Shores and now with Wintersday) and then failed to meet those deadlines – often putting the content out at the last possible minute and failing to explain whats going on to their userbase. That is what said person meant by unprofessional – and it is based on observable fact.
The fact is however the 14th event launch was scheduled with no specific time other than “when it’s ready” and it’s still the 14th so no deadlines have been passed as of yet. All this QQ that it has is sorely misplaced.
Sorry, my calendar says 15th….and we’re back to square 1.
Since my posts got deleted, I’ll do this one more time.
“As mentioned several times before, the build is still scheduled to arrive today, during Pacific Time hours.

As it is said again and again, nowhere on the offical european side it is stated that the patch is pst. Only the events are stated with both, pst and cet.

And to add a little bit more. What do you think was first, your source or mine?
And again. Its about the Patch and not about the events which happen at 15th.
I do agree they Euro players do kinda get shafted a little bit however they should simply release the events at more suitable times for Euro players on the Euro servers specifically.
In general though all events have always happened during PST hours so it should be expected even if not clearly stated by now.

I live in NZ and I always add one day to anything they put on their site in my head automatically.
They NEVER said it would launch on the 14th in my timezone and realistically, if you don’t live in the US you should stop expecting it to be in your own timezone.
By far the best post I seen in here so far

Yeah, it doesn’t say that on any of the sites but than again, it gets mentioned on the forums. The last 2 events had updates on when they would start, what would happen, etc. If something went wrong, they would post that too and they did several times. You’re complaining about something that was already explained several hours ago.
Next year, just call the first day “Wintersday Eve.” Say, “no one knows when or where Tixx will come.” Then, just sneak him in whenever.
It’s just a version of what you do with your kids on Christmas Eve.
yeah i dunno why people are suddenly surprised that ANet uses PST.
In game bottom left corner of the mini-map there is even a clock with server time 0.o
Not to mention they’ve always been using pacific standard time. Even for the beta weekends >.<
I don’t think anyone expected they would try to push the release time to the latest possible moment on the 14th! Since there is no one time event, I really expected it would have released at Midnight PST this morning, not some late time prior to 11:59PM PST on the 14th!
I’m glad the entire company got to go see the Hobbit last night, they deserve a break, but knowing they were going to be taking time off for that, I really would have thought they would have had the first day of the event ready ahead of time.
After the horribly sad/depressing news today, it would have been very nice to have a fun distraction this evening to take our minds off of it, even if just for a little while.
So, yeah, I really hope it will be any moment now and not a last possible moment release…
I’m not mad or anything, i just want to point that Anet is seriously lacking went it comes to communicate with their playerbase. I live in Spain, and in the spanich version clearly indicates that the event starts on the 14th. It also says the exact times for each event in spanish time. Here you can check it:
https://www.guildwars2.com/es/the-game/releases/december-2012/
I know for sure this is just a translation of the english version with spanish times for the events and that the person who translated it has no idea if that information is correct or not. So i can understand people getting mad and calling it false advertising.
All this said, all i ask Anet is to be a bit more communicative with us and more coherent between their teams, as is to be expected from a big company.
They are pushing too many contents into recent updates, so I won’t mind waiting for another day to make sure things don’t get messed up when they are released.

Generally I’d prefer
a) A lot more communication
b) More fixes, less content until the most urgent stuff is fixed

Agree. Quality over Quantity is better.
I also prefer them to be more frank to us. If things need to be postponed, let us know beforehand so we can adjust. I think the majority would understand their efforts.

They are just waiting for the fresh paint to dry on the giant golum airship.
Or, they were wrapping gifts that Trixx would be dropping , and they ran out of wrapping paper. They sent Jon Peters and Jon Sharp to buy more, however both of them are arguing on what color wrapping paper to get.
Or , someone one spilled coffee on the main server and wiped the entire build.

calm down lad,
here’s something to watch while your waiting,

Yep. Huge delay but with communication, a given reason and maybe a few background infos? Sure, go ahead. Fix what you need to fix, keep us posted, I’m fine with that.
Small delay but no communication, no infos? Very disappointed. But I, and others, have been preaching that since the first huge “fail” in the past events.
The only thing that changed is that the class specific forums get attention by Jon from time to time. But when it comes to handling patches and events….they still have a long way to go. And I really hope that they’ll get there.

So aggravating. I can understand an hour, two hours.. maybe three.. but an entire friggen day? COME ON. I have never once complained about the bugs because those happen and cant be controlled. This is just inexcusable.
You should cancel your subscription in protest.
What really gets to me is the lack of communication. No matter what way I look at it we are in a relationship with the devs. The key to any type of relationship is communication. I remember after evasive arcana was nerfed for eles all the community wanted was some communication. Karl McLain stops by says 3 things and the fire is snuffed out. Three sentences and all the anger is over.
Every event so far has been like this and honestly just a little bit of communication would go a long way. On that note I would love to see the patch notes dropped a little early just for quality of life.

I’m not really upset that the event hasn’t been released yet. I understand. Sometimes a bug only manifests itself on the live server, and you need to do an emergency fix.
But what I’m worried about is the lack of disclosure, more than anything. I’ve seen a lot of “the build will be released at some point today” posts, yes. And I trust that at some point before midnight on the West Coast, the game will patch. I’m sad it wasn’t in game when I logged in, but it isn’t like the game is down or anything. I can still play.
But the lack of a reason is kind of worrying. I’d really like it if there was a post somewhere that said, “Hey, Wintersday is still coming. But it’s later than we initially expected because of X,Y, and Z. We’ll keep you updated. Watch this space!”
That’s all I really want. Just a place where I can follow the progress of the update. Maybe some pictures or concept art to build up excitement. Stuff to make the wait less disappointing.
If they didn’t know what time the build would be deployed, they should not have specified a time. Simple as that. It doesn’t take an MBA to realize how damaging it is to the reputation of a company to keep its customers confused and in the dark. It’s the difference between the airline telling you your plane is delayed and giving you regular updates, and them just telling you to just sit in the airport and wait…and wait…and wait…
The problem is the confusion, and the not knowing. And yes, saying “sometime on the 14th” is confusing, not coy.
The build will be live soon. We are currently in the process of distributing the build to the servers.
