Smash the Town achievement problems
You need to make a list and make sure you’re checking it twice.
I know the little bit of wall you are talking of, and no, you don’t need it for the achievement. Just keep trying. If you can’t get it by the time I get home from work(2-3 hours time) since its Christmas ill hop in an instance and help you get it
There is a tree that is hard to get to near where the griffon nests are at. You may be overlooking this one. A guild mate and I did this achievement the other day, and that was the last one we destroyed … took us a few minutes to find it after everything else was crushed.
Plastered Tyrian Sea Devils [PTSD]
Agadar.4931: A bad mesmer still poops clones like no tomorrow.
The big city models don’t count. The factory sort of things don’t either.
Just two points of interest:
1) Walls of the little towns count.
2) There’s a town with little electricity towers in the middle. Those count.
A tip is to bring an aoe build and just spam is everywhere, even on things that look smashed. Do it also in the middle of the towns as well as the obvious buildings and walls.
Got it last night.. daughter and I stayed. Was easy.
She aoe’ed with her elm and I put sword in main hand on thief and just spammed.
Took 5 mins if that (some stuff broke during the normal event)..
4 hours op?? That can’t be right.
There is an invisible building somewhere. If you use AoE spells, chances are you’ll hit it while destroying other buildings.

4 hours is about right, not all in one go, but spaced out over 3 or so attempts
edit: I play a guardian and I haven’t really got many aoe skills unlocked at this point beyond my elite, maybe I should get some. I’ve just been running around with my 2h sword

I’ll try looking over there next time, I don’t recall anything tricky over there, so maybe that’s what I’m missing? Although I don’t know how I would miss it with the rigorous searching I’ve done when i was trying to get the achievement
Edit 2:
I just got it. I tried the suggestion about spamming attacks near towns, and it worked, I destroyed something that must have been invisible in 2 different towns, I couldn’t tell that anything was unbroken and I couldn’t tell what broke, but I did damage and it got me the achievement.
Thanks for the help guys.

your GS, Sword, staff etc all will do aoe for you..
your GS, Sword, staff etc all will do aoe for you..
Staff would have worked, didn’t think about the staff attack, that might be the optimal weapon for this sort of thing. but the others are on quite a long recharge to be useful for this sort of thing i find and some of the areas are smaller than swing arc (like the symbol skills for instance)
A lot of us believe there is an intermittent, untraced bug involved here though.
I, for one, was unable to get it on multiple tries with my mesmer (my only 80), with help, after finishing the event chain and getting the chest. Three tries, 60 mins each, SCOURED (I was a legendary carto and vq, I know how to scour), no objects left, no achievement.
Last night after midnight I went in alone with my level 36 guardian and her staff, took off the armor to save repair costs, and ran around casting 1 in all directions, frantically trying to break things before skritt pounded me to death. I had nothing close to the chance to “scour”.
Yet with that approach I got it in about 15 minutes.
Seems like the key, if you’ve had trouble, is to do it alone, without completing any part of the event chain…?

No, your #1 attack on the sword, gs etc will hit up to 3 objects/mobs in an arc in front of you.
So just hitting 1 without any target as you run thru the area will hit 3 things.
I went on my necro with a warhorn and used the #5 button which I think is swarm of locusts? (the one with the speed boost). It’s an aoe short distance plus a speed buff. I ran around in that and managed to find the last few that seemed to elude me. A group of us went that way and managed to get around the nooks and cranies. Oh.. and scepter on the necro using the #2 aoe grasping spell also did huge areas as well.
I don’t think there’s a bug here. I got this achievement on my second try. Turns out I’d missed some breakables near the Black Citadel area. Very small objects, look similar to a fence/antenna thingy. Not sure if this is an issue, but maybe try setting graphics up higher to improve visibilty.

I got those on each try when it failed to give me the achievement.
No one is saying it’s impossible to get the achievement. We’re saying, in fairly convincing numbers, I might add, that there seem to be hard-to-predict circumstances under which a player cannot get credit for the achievement, despite having destroyed everything in the instance.
Scouring an EMPTY instance twice, for an hour at a time, with several other people after completing the chain, I couldn’t get the achievement.
Running around for 15 minutes on a naked character in a SOLO instance, with skritt busting caps in my a** left and right, I got the achievement.
I can assure you, I didn’t break anything that third time that I hadn’t broken (and stomped and smashed a dozen times again, just in case) the first two.
I had trouble getting this when I was with a group that left early, then I went solo and got it pretty quickly.
If anyone still doing this. Watch out for the little posts on the road and the walls around the towns that connect to the cliff sides.
Characters- Levicus (Ele); Levicus Gear (Eng);
Levicus Shield (War)
I had the same issues getting the achievement until I went into a fresh dungeon solo and just did it myself (didn’t complete any of the waves). I got it on the first try very easily. I’m betting there is some sort of group related bug.
For me it was definitely an invisible object. I assume those without any problems destroyed it without knowing. Maybe it’s a random bug.
Tried it three times. Nuked everything on the last try with fire aoe.
Here’s where I found it
