0-80 in WvW
Well – you start at level 1.
And you’re likely about L2 when exiting the tutorial.
But outside that – I don’t see why not.
Personally though – I usually wait until getting a few skills, and start around L10.
I know several people who have done that.
Ruins of Surmia
problem is to collect enough of those skillpoints (dunno the english term atm, these blue ones) – we (two guildies and me) tried to do the exact thing with three chars, but gave up on it because of the mentioned problem.
Asura Thief
Elona Reach
Slowly making an ele atm which is currently lvl 26 and is made 90% from WvW.
I’m an altoholic and PvE bores me to tears now.
My only issue in WvW is that toons I level here feel ‘squishy’ compared to the mobs/servers I’m up against but that’s also due to me getting used to them too.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
Definitely possible but harder now. I ventured into WvW in the high 20s in level and probably did 50 of my last 60 levels there. But that was right after release and a lot of other lowbies were around as well making it possible to contribute. Some of the matchups were wacky in the 24 hour cycles too and I had nights where I would gain 8 levels running roughshod over the map.
Low level players should be more support though, run supply, man siege, defend from towers and keeps, and don’t rush into combat and die right away, which puts a burden on your team.
I do WvW for levelling, and story mode when i get to the appropriate level, so I don’t have to spend too much on gear (story mode rewards), it’s been pretty satisfactory so far.
Raichi – Sylvari Mesmer (Strike Force)
Stormbluff Isle
I’m new to this and I entered wv3 around lvl 15 (mesmer)about a week ago and as of last night I’m half way to 41. I’ve always been a player vs player gamer and get bored with vs PC after a short while because in the back of my mind I feel like its almost cheatIng. you learn what patterns the PC goes through and such. Where as people are a lot less predictable. I think being smart about it is a fun time as long as you don’t follow a suicidal commander. :-/
If your team has a zerg that is constantly taking objectives leveling in WvW is very quick and efficient.
If you are successfully holding back an attack at a keep / tower then your leveling can be quick as well especially if you are on siege equipment. Plus, you get a fair number of badges of honor.
If your team is -not- taking objectives or successfully defending then leveling in WvW isn’t very efficient.
I got to level 32 on my necro purely on wvw, plan was to go to 80 exclusively in wvw but it was a bit slow and not quite as fun as playing one of my 80s in there so I gave up a few days ago.
Desolation ~ Just the [Tip]
At level 7 I went into WvW with my mesmer and leveled him to 80 there. This was about a month ago. If you are not keen on PvE then WvW is certainly a viable leveling option. Just don’t get discouraged if you die a lot. You don’t have the level 80 gear so you won’t be as powerful as someone with all exotics at 80. Just keep on fighting despite that and you’ll get to 80 no problem.
Started my Mesmer at 10-11 and went to 80 through WvW no problem.
Plague/Shadow Gypsies
Jade Quarry
Leveling in WvW is profitable if your server is roflstomping the others because you’ll be bouncing around retaking the same camps and keeps in a general area nonstop.
Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
I Lvled a thief and ranger from lvl 2 to 80 only doing WvW.
Now i started a warrior wich im trying to lvl doing pve only and it feels alot slower.
Actually, I don’t think you even need to touch the tutorial. You spawn in it, yes, but you can quickly go to the Heart of the Mists. Now, if you can back into PvE, you’ll be instantly teleported to the Tutorial. I did it with my Charr Hunter I started as an alt.
Formerly [QT] Questionable Tactics
i went from 30 – 80 on my necro, and im on the way from 2-80 on my guardian (68 atm). It is impossible to do 1-80 as u cant join wvw till u have completed the main mission to destroy a boss type depending on your race, and that mission gets u lvl 2 :-)
Emporer Palpatine – Tempest Ele
Necromancer: 10-80
Guardian: 5-48
Imo it’s better to cap all your weapon skills first before joining WvW, just so you use more than an auto-attack when you get in there.
If you have the luxury of owning two accounts you can power lvl there very fast using the following method:
The char you want lvl must be on a server that owns SM. With the other char you shoot the SM using a trebuchet from a safe place so the “Defend Keep whatever” event pops up. The char you want to lvl has to repair the gate/wall → Finish an Event every 3 minutes that grants huge XP.
Be careful tho, this might be considered an exploit (i havent done it myself before, but i was farming karma that way whenever SM was under attack)
Also your pretty much wasting supply of ur server so u might aggro ur teammates
Low level players should be more support though, run supply, man siege, defend from towers and keeps, and don’t rush into combat and die right away, which puts a burden on your team.
But then they will never level, except when defending, which effectively would take about 4 times longer than pve as running supplies and building defense does nothing for your xp presently. No incentive = no way in hell any on john or jane would be bothered.
Leveling is ridiculous in wvw unless you are in a safety net of 80’s which still doesn’t guarantee your survival but gives you a better shot to get xp, outside of nodes, dolyak’s and guards – which some characters even have issues with
EDIT: I forgot to add AI like wolves and wurms etc.. useless … if I am going to go in to wvwvw to level my alt and farm ai, then guess what … your not doing anything different then pve, and pve has alot more ‘creativity’ and variety to offer. So no point on those either
If you’re quickly flipping objectives in a ~10 man group constantly, you’ll get more loot and experience then you ever would doing PvE.
I was running around in a group of 8 capping camps, orges, sentries etc, and rocking up to towers just as the door went down in WvW the other day on my 65 necro. In about 40 minutes I got 3 levels and had to vendor my 80 slot inventory twice from all the loot bags.
That being said, you can get 10 levels from leveling cooking for about 2 gold, some karma and a level ~65 toon for about an hour or less work.

My ranger went from 21-80 in just over 2 weeks of almost exclusive WvW. I got from 71 to 80 (and made about 4g) in just a few hours yesterday running with a group during off hours. We capped everything (including Hills) and just kept running in a circle as the opposing server was capturing back behind us.
Playing a various Stormspire alt – if it’s Stormspire, it’s probably me

have a lvl 56 engineer right now, and 3 other toons with lvl 80’s already that spent 75-80% of their time playing WvW… karma, xp, and ingame money wise it’s better to do it here and you get to finish the daily quest within an hour or so with a decent zerg or squads doing hit n run supply camps, yak sniping, quaggan/nodes… etc

Karma is definitely easier to come by in WvW if your are in an active map where you are turning over a lot of assets or defending a lot. If you are in one of those matches where one server is dominating all the maps and no one is participating, it can be a bit slower.
XP, I am not so sure about. It depends on the activity again. I would think it is even at best but the edge would have to go to PvE a lot of the time simply because you can be earning XP constantly whereas there can be times when little or nothing is happening in WvW.
In-game money, on the other hand is not easier to come by in WvW. You easily get more cash from PvE than you do in WvW simply because you get more loot drops in PvE by far. In addition to loot drops, you have dungeons, dynamic events, heart quests, and other things that give you money. Farming PvE will net you money quicker than farming in WvW.
I am doing that with my Mesmer. What I see is that…
1. It is impossible to do this entirely in WWW because of the skillpoints. You only have 13 skillpoints in WWW, it is impossible to play a decent WWW game with only 13 skillpoints.
2. Unless you never, ever buy a blueprint, you will loose money andneed an alt to give it to you. I always buy rams and carts, so I loose alot of money in WWW. ALOT. You will need to be very selfish and never buy any blueprint (which means you are leaching of others) to break even in WWW.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
Escorting Yak’s back in the day made for some quick leveling in WvW I don’t know if I’d say if that counts though
Regarding skill points, remember that you continue to gain skill points past level 80 so it is possible (definitely not ideal) but is possible nonetheless.
I play mainly WvW on my main, and I haven’t really done much outside of WvW with it. Ofcourse the ocasional dungeon and such, but it has been at lvl 80 for a long time now. While I was still leveling I was in wvw about 90-95% of the time, so yeah it’s possible.
WvW probably isn’t the fastest way to level, but imo it’s the most fun way.

People keep saying that they leveled from 2-80 purely from WvW. But nobody is mentioning anything about how much longer it takes to do. The first 80 I made took me 65 hours. When I leveled my second character through WvW, it took over 250 hours.
