10/5: Crystal Desert/Dragonbrand/Tarnished Coast
The demoralize tactics by Anet’s inviso-patch have hurt TC more than anything done by any one server.
That hit both you and DB (not like we needed help there), don’t worry. I was still pretty enthusiastic about playing but now I’m kind of on the fence. At least during NA primetime, it seems manageable during the day.
I think people are still excited for the match but I do think that something definitely went wrong. Allies weren’t seeing allies, people weren’t seeing enemies. And I’m sure that it hit everyone to varying degrees. It’s sort of a shame that, as fun as WvW is, it suffers from thing really major flaw.
I was really enjoying the match until last night. The orb hacking and especially the rendering/culling issues really put a damper on things.
last night fight (my time) was very epic indeed. we had TC trebbing our DBay wall from garrison in their borderland for 6 hours, until they had to make 10 trebs to pound the wall, which we finally took down using ballistas…
it is just unfortunate for the community that some idiots had to resort to hacking to get the orb to reset….
Archeage = Farmville with PK
It’s sad because it’s the first time for us, to my knowledge and the problem seems to be spreading around WvW more and more. There were hacks last week (from GoM). People are posting about more of it happening in other matches and from other realms in this match even. It’s like some sort of spreading virus. You’d think that after it happening so many weeks on so many servers, there’d be more decisive action to end all the occurrences
The rendering thing at least makes sense. That’s some type of server issue that they need to figure out. This stuff? It’s blatant abuse and cheating and reporting it doesn’t seem to be doing much.
For now, let’s do what we can to police ourselves and just keep the match going, I suppose. I know we’ve all enjoyed it. If we’re careful, we can keep this going in spite of setbacks.
Yeah A bunch of TSG from TC is not playing much we hop on from time to time but there is no fun in this every server (though we all know this would never happen but would be kinda cool) should band together and just make everyone have even scores every week till its fixed!!! keep the matches even so we could have the same match up when invisible wars 2 is gone…
As far as hacking goes its disgusting and honestly ashamed that there are these same bad apples on TC as there is on many other servers and wish they would go back to playing call of duty where hacking is the cool kid thing to do!!
The server is really great at getting their stuff together when losing, I love that. I just wish it didn’t take us getting pushed back to a supply camp to start making smart choices. When I got in the DB Borderlands, they over-extended and took both server’s keeps while letting all supply camps continually flip. While short term, it’s a point spike, no defense or supplies to build defenses meant we were left with no way to defend against two servers. They also complained of some alliance of DB and CD when they caused the double team in the first place by taking both keeps.
We fight hard, real hard. Now we have to learn to fight smarter.
So… what about those hackers? http://i.imgur.com/8tUje.jpg
Hes trying to get our Orb right now, but the Altar bugged somehow and aint being destroyed.
Any score update for the ongoing match?
CD- 130,219
DB- 82, 399
TC- 77,352
Potential Points as of 1:06 AM EST:
TC-315
DC-285
DB- 95
TC, 2 orbs. CD, 1.
Gap between TC and DB is 5038 points. Seems to be the general average of the day, with some minor creeping by TC. Last night, the gap was closer to 1-2k. Not sure what happened in the really early morning hours. Generally, it’s a lock for CD and that’s been known for a while. A lot of good fighting between everyone though, marred by some hacks unfortunately. Still, even with that, this is one of the more exciting matchups I’ve seen.
Hate to double post but just and update TC’s around 3600 hundred away from DB. Then again, they nearly passed them last night and ended up waking up to a 6000 deficit so it’s really anyone’s game.
Wishing TC all the best.

A big shout out to the gang of defenders in CD BL tonight. First it was some really good work under Commander Fel and got us the orb, but after he logged off there was no leader. I was seriously impressed how we worked together and managed to hold onto the orb until Commander Jadon, his PiNK crew and Sharpclaw came and took over. That was some of the best leaderless teamwork I have seen in GW2.
Also props to BD and CD folks for giving us such a good hard fight. I got so scared at one point I ran to another BL to cry for help!
I second that shout out to the CD BL crew last night. We were outnumbered the entire night, and yet held our own and got that orb. You guys did an awesome job. I’m glad to hear you all coordinated so well through rest of the night!
I’ve been very impressed with the leadership on TC. Every map I go to, team and map chat is positive and all about working together. Personally, I love the challenge we’ve had this week. It is a lot more fun than locking up first place within the first few days. Props to TC for being an awesome server. Looking forward to our continued improvement!

DB wants second so bad that they fought SM away from TC and then basically handed it to CD twenty minutes later. Impressive feat of mediocrity, to be sure.

Please refrain from using this kind of talk in this thread. This thread is for discussing the fight in a civil manner, not for accusing each other of what their doing.
This fight has been really fun so far, and I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve spent in WvW so far this week, much more than our previous 2 matches. You guys in DB and TC have put up some pretty awesome fights so far as well. TC, you guys could probably be better, you seem to have the numbers, just need some awesome coordination.
No idea what happened this morning exactly, all I know is in less than a couple hours CD flipped the score around to be dominating (potential points currently +520). I assume that DB and TC just don’t have many people on right now, but awesome job CD lol.

@Sisho:
Yeah. As someone from TC, as far as I can tell, our numbers fall off a cliff from somewhere between 2am and 10am server time. We had some pretty frustrating issues with that when we were facing the predominately Oceanic server Sea of Sorrows. That’s okay, it just makes the fight to take things back more interesting

Yeah the uphill battle is very difficult, but I can say I’ve had some pretty fun battles uphill the past couple weeks since our oceanics aren’t quite as strong as the higher up servers. We have decent oceanic presence, enough to hold tier 3 pretty easy, but tier 2 is incredibly difficult with just the oceanics we have. I honestly wish we could balance the oceanics, but what will be will be I suppose, it is all part of the game. Either way good luck getting your stuff back tonight to you guys, and DB as well.
(I’ll be honest, it really truly isn’t that much fun to play at this time of day when your server holds almost everything, and there isn’t much point either if you are looking for some offense or for exp/karma since there isn’t much up for grab lol)

This match-up seems fairly good overall. In the times that I’ve been in WvW the fighting has been intense.
CD – you guys are definitely better than us over at TC. I believe we’re learning something though so keep it up! Respect to you and all your WvWers (except any evil and despicable hackers). It is a joy to fight with ya’ll and to learn from what you are doing.
Just to update the score since we’re now Tuesday, Oct 09 at 1:40pm Eastern. The short of it:
CD – ~151k
TC: ~93k
DB: ~93k
Yeah, it’s that close for second place.

Absolutely. Our opponents this matchup are relentless and it’s made me more excited to queue up for WvW than any previous week. Every night it’s a serious battle for territory that you then have to hold tooth and nail to even last long enough for an upgrade. Fun, fun times.
Still a lot of time ahead of us. This is going to be a close one. You know, besides CD’s big lead. Not matter what happens, DB and TC should both be satisfied knowing they fought really tough so far.
EDIT: I saw this post and it made me chuckle for a second, even though Cephei and Sisho both have a point about Oceanics and coverage making a difference in matches.

I just did want to say that you gave such a big hour gap. Eight hours. And To a degree, it’s definitely true to some extent but that is a biiiiig window.
There was a much better spread last night. Sizr got smaller but TC had a presence at least until 5-6 AM EST. Dragonbrand did too, although I don’t know the size.

Yeah i’m loving the fight so far TC put up a very good fight you guys will definitely better in the future and we CD look forward to it theres a point when TC dominated and put up a impressive play but locking supply and blocking spawn at TC BL. u guys learn how to play WvW and i looking forward seeing it grow KUDOS keep up the good work i believe u are way better then DB
For TC I think our lack of 24 hr coverage impacts us more than just those few hours. It feels futile to pay for the upgrades at the towers (especially) when you know they will be probably become unmanned and taken over during the night. However upgrading camps, towers, and keeps are absolutely necessary imho. The upgraded stuff work together and make the entire region that much stronger. The mighty and upgraded keep can be easily starved and will fall quickly without upgraded tower(s) to protect its flank and the camp(s) in-between. When 3 men in a upgraded tower can stall a dozen invaders, it just gives our zerg(s)/raid groups so much more flexibility to carry out various operations.
Personally I think this is something that TC occasionally neglects and it has cost us a couple of times this weekend already. We can’t even hold on to some things that we should be able to hold before the night crew arrive. However I do believe more and more people are becoming aware of this and are all chipping in for upgrades, so we are improving steadily.
Exciting stuff, gang!
Haha, it’s kind of fun how this worked out. Crystal Desert basically locking down first so that everyone can concentrate on the TC/DB grudge match.
It’s been pretty entertaining as a spectator.
Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
Wow, that was awesome. TC still fighting harder then ever into the middle of the week.
We’re doing a fair job thus far (TC), especially 14 hours ago in EB, where CD had us pushed back to the first door in Overlook. (I think that particular siege lasted a good 4 or so hours?)
Everyone was messing around at first, and there was absolutely zero coordination (I was trying to clear the anz vista, treb SM and then unsuccessfully run in to solo the CD treb when the wall dropped) but when our outer-wall fell and the inner-door got repeatedly smashed open/repaired, everyone kinda dug their heels in and started working together. No commanders were present during that time, you guys managed that all on your own – and if we can conjure up the same initiative we displayed back then more often, then we’ll become a much better server in the long run.
I just wanted to say good work, and thank CD for putting us in that situation! (Not only was it a fun & challenging learning experience, but it was a big morale boost for a lot of people whom you forced to cooperate.)

TC Here, This has been a great fight, my hats off to CD, they are a tough server and a well coordinated one. The past few days its been about the fight for second, we’ve been neck and neck with DB and its nice that we pulled ahead the for time being. Should be an exciting rest of the week.
You aren’t allowed anything, Dragonbrand.
CD here, its been a good match. TC and DB fight well, they are good opponents and should they get more population would be very formidable. Sadly the rendering issue has hit me (ive done what I can with my PC, its pretty high end) and its affecting my desire to do WvWvW.
woke up to this O-o Guess we have a big night crew on CD :P
-Treebeard
what the kitten?
I didn’t know we had a night crew o_O;
Speaking as someone who was there to get hit repeatedly by the ever growing EB zerg at 4-5 a.m. Central, you sure as heck do have a sizable night crew. 60 vs. 6 at Anzalias, 70 vs. 4 at Mendon’s. Fun times. :p
Well, that is new.
haha of course we have a night crew! CD has lots of singapore based players:)

Great job, TC! Another push today just like we had yesterday, continue to grind it out. Very impressed with the dedication on our server. Keep it up, get in those maps!

Very happy with the resilience of the Tarnished Coast players. In previous matches we have often seen other servers give up after the first few days wen they are down. Not Tarnished Coast. Every day out players are showing up even when first place is out if the question. For the first part of the week Tarnished Coast was in third however due to the nature of the players on this server and their ‘Never give up’ attitude, we have now pushed well into 2nd place and remain competitive all day.
Once this server gets a few more solid oceanic PVP guild this server will do extremely well.
Good Job Tarnished Coast.

Alodar, now all we have to do is distract CD somehow and sneak in a few solid hours of total map domination to grab first.
If only CD would stop doing that to us!
CD – well played this go around. We’re still hoping your early morning crew (eastern time that is) will give up and get bored so our much smaller crew can take some objectives.
Heojaua, if I were to guess, I would think that CD doesn’t have full queues during ‘off-peak’ times. It’s just that CD’s off-peak WvW population is significantly larger than TC’s off-peak population. Yesterday I went through the borderlands and in every one of them we were outnumbered by CD. Buuuut… I think in one of them (or more – it’s tough to tell how many players are actually in a zone) we had less than 10 players. So, that doesn’t necessarily mean that CD has a huge off-peak population.
I am glad we’re beating DB. That makes me a happy kitten.

Lol what’s with the dragonbrand hate?
DB tends to be rude when they win. Dancing and mocking players.
It’s probably tied to their very large, overly dominant win against TC and Maguuma. I wouldn’t be shocked if Mag players had some residual irritation from that match. I openly admit it’s one of the only realms I really have any negative feelings towards, although I do generally think that pretty much every server we’ve gone up against is full of good folks.
Actually Whiran, Tarnished Coast greatly outnumbers us on Crystal Desert during Prime Time. I get the outmanned buff on both Dragonbrand and Tarnished Coast borderlands during the entirety of USA’s Prime Times. There is almost never a Queue to anything at any time with the exception of Eternal BGs having a 10-15min Queue on occasion.
Crystal Desert is by and far a PvE server we have probably one of the highest populations of PvE players in this game. What few of us actually do play WvW, do tend to be a bit more on the organized side of things ever since we got our act together after the 2 weeks of being roflstomped by Tier 1 leftovers.
Yep, DB beat us. (and our pals over at Maguuma). Badly.
So, it’s pay back.
I don’t know if it is hate as such but more like satisfaction and proving to ourselves that we’ve gotten better. DB was our measuring stick.
We beat a few teams and went up in brackets but there’s always a suspicion that it is more because of zerging than strategy / tactics. Being matched against DB shows that we have, indeed, grown (not only population wise) as a server and gotten better.
With our awesome aussie crew that joined in when we were playing SoS there is a general feel to our server that we’re one of the better ones out there. Since we’re in the top half of servers that’s a true enough statement for me.
I believe we have some amazing Euros as well on our server and, hopefully, we’ll get some of the Euro RP guilds coming over.
Anyway, for many on Tarnished Coast Dragonbrand was our measuring stick to prove that we have gotten better. Since we’re beating them, that’s enough proof for me!
Down with DB!!
Edited to add: Kelo, I believe that. A lot of times during prime there is no queue to the borderlands other than our own. We’re the unOfficial RP server so we have a lot of folk who tavern RP and share a few drinks. (Seriously, this happens a lot on TC but it’s great and fun.)

Well, I’d be cautious about getting overconfident. Either for this match still or, especially, for whatever next week holds. I think we have server pride. I think assuming we’re “one of the better” only goes so far. DB and CD are good. SoS was good. Mag’s getting better. I mean, as time goes on, the level of competency only goes up for everyone.

Agreed. I think that we, as TC, have a lot more to learn and to aspire to.
I love our WvW matches when they are against evenly matched opponents when it comes to population. When everyone has full queues that makes for the best times.
I think we’re learning an awful lot from CD. They are forcing us to up our game (which is a good thing) and to evolve to try and match them. This week is a good one for us – we may be in second place (and, yes, DB could rise up and take that back) but we have good morale and good times.
Aside from gaining a few more oceanics I think we(TC) are more successful against DB this time around because we have CD to keep them in check overnight with their larger nighttime presence.
When we lost to DB last time it’s because they wracked up a ton of points at night. Mag didnt have a night time crew to hold DB back either. Like in that matchup we are very competitive during our primetime hours but just don’t have the off-peak population to hold on to objectives.
We have gained a few more off-peak players so we’ll have to see how we do against them if we get matched up against them again along with a different server.
That’s a fair sentiment and I think that to deny CD’s effect on the match (and their superior playing) would do a discredit to them, to be sure. But we also shouldn’t forget that there have been significant period in which TC has assumed potential point totals and even where DB has pushed back.
The difference, it would say, is the ability therein. Night crews matter, to be sure. But one of the biggest things at the moment seems to be the ability to mount proper counter offensives.
