100 gold to command
~ Seafarer’s Rest ~
Bad idea to refund or give other requirements for a blue dorito over your head.
But if there would be update to commander system, yes then refund would be good.
Every commander starts bad. Every mistake made makes us better at what we do. We are able to succeed not because we’re naturally good at it, but because we spent time researching and learning the game, and applying it in the field to see if it’s worth repeating or discarding.
Other than my justification,
Having the icon is also good for pve events which require coordinated teams – a good move – and should be the direction of the living world besides areas which allow solo play, and small group play.
What the commander system needs is a buff. Like having different colors of tag per map if more than one tags up (100s worth bonus given as free advise developers).
Ability to check and classify the professions following you. Besides the supply info and squad thing. So that the commander can make use of the team for tactical purposes faster.
Always Loyal
I agree. I’m talking about the initial WvW requirement.
PvE tags shouldn’t be the same as WvW tags as they require different skills entirely. I don’t know why they haven’t separated them by now.
A WvW commander can learn from mistakes but he has to have some BASIC knowledge and know-hows about the battleground and strategic moves. Hence why having a requirement higher than just 100g is crucial to a good commanding team in WvW.

I see what you mean, but it is pointless until Anet will make changes to Commander system.
Right now, you just get mark over your head and thats it.

Which precisely why Anet cannot allow someone to get a tag on the relatively arbitrary notion that someone who has X amount of kills or captures or whatever is going to make a good commander. In the current meta, it doesn’t take long for someone who is good at surviving in a zerg and following his commander to rack up the numbers. Doesn’t necessarily make him a good tactician.
I agree with you that the basis of the current criterion – having 100 gold to spend on the dorito – is just as arbitrary, but at least it shows a commitment to to the ‘cause’.
At the end of the day, the true judge of whether someone is a good commander or not comes down to the players that are willing to follow the tag into battle. It doesn’t take long for dedicated and skilled WvW players to judge a commander’s worth.
(I have to know! In WvW, do Legendary NPCs drop Legendary loot?)
@ Bloodwort
I’m talking about adding basic WvW requirements to the 100g price tag, not instead.
I agree not every person who knows how to follow a zerg is a commander in disguise, but it sure is better than people who never been in a battle but have 100g to throw away and think they got this all figured out.
Either way, ANY change would benefit the current system. But it has to be dealt with to benefit the battles and making them more strategy based than brainless roaming. It all starts with good commanding.

Make it so you can only buy it with gold earned in WvW haha
Title says it all.
Anet/devs/whoever in charge, please refund all commanders while taking their tags and make the requirements for a commander tag to be more than having 100 gold.
Maybe amount of captures in WvW for a special WvW commander tag? This policy of giving anyone who wants it to command in WvW, creates chaos as many of them don’t know what they’re doing.
If you’re looking on improving WvW, start with increasing requirements for a commander tag!
Thank you.
While your heart is in the right place, upping the requirement on having a commander tag (and I’m assuming this would also split the requirements for wvw commander tags from the pve commander tags) is ultimately useless. It is far to easy to get captures/kills/set up siege/build siege/man siege/stomps/yak kills/yak escorts/whatever else you can do in wvw that can be tracked by a system. By adding on the requirement that you need to capture x towers simply means all you need to do is follow the zerg for a little while.
Also, would these requirements be account based? or character based (like current WXP is)?
I also disagree that the first thing that needs to be improved in WvW is commander requirements. If you know a commander is bad, or don’t recognize him right away, don’t follow him. Others will do the same, unless they don’t know any better, in which case you can try to educate them (or better yet, try to educate the “bad” commander).
Every serious guild is not using the tag because it is bad implementation. So i would be appreciated for any refund.
Actually a 100 gold is not that easy to get in-game. Our guild will help some new commanders get their tag.
No-one in our guild or any WvW guild that I know of will just follow a tag around blindly. Using the join squad option blanks our any other tags (tags you don’t want to follow) in a BL. Maybe new commander tags will confuse some new WvW players but not for long.
Also I agree with earlier statements—commanders improve by commanding.
Oftentimes people follow a commander because he’s the only guy tagging up, not because he’s good. Some commanders who are terrible get a following simply by being there and tagging up regularly, at which point it becomes hard for the ones with common sense to compete with them. People seem to take the attitude that if a commander is there every night and everyone else is following him, he must be good. Not only will they not give a better commander a chance, they will sometimes demand that he tag down so the “real” commander can do his job.
On my server, it is rare to find a commander who has the common sense to stop and rally regularly to keep the group together. Instead they wp out in the middle of a fight and take off running the instant they hit the wp, leaving half the zerg behind and the other half straggling behind them in a long extended column. We wipe again and again due to the lack of organization, while the commander screams at everyone to “keep up!” as if it is anyone’s fault but his own. Any attempts to correct this behavior will be met with personal insults and attacks by the commander’s sycophants. Other people who tag up will be ignored or attacked for doing so.
I’m not sure what the solution is, but something must be done about the 100g wonders monopolizing the commander’s role and bossing everyone around like they own you.
