Thought I’d get the ball rolling on our 2nd discussion about this match-up. Let’s keep it clean and try to not get locked this time. I think all three servers deserve that much respect at least.

good job to all three servers, great match! DB could really use a boost to the NA day time. I would really like to see an increase presence at that time.

Anyway, DB did work while everybody was sleeping. Lots of prep today for x-mas, it’ll be hard to come back from this one I imagine.

Why the hate on my post in the last thread?? All I said was I got to play a bit and I feel like DB’s players are generally better than Yaks.

I don’t build my ele like most others do and even if I did run the same build as all the FOTM ele’s, thats not the reason I win. This “cookie cutter” insult is so foolish.

Playing against DB what was most annoying imo is that you couldn’t accuse them of being just numbers. They have great strategy and very skilled players. Glad to see how well BP handled them last matchup since DH was not putting up much of a fight so it was a BP vs DB fight and it was still very close. And yes, we spent a lot of money upgrading things that would be gone next time we logged in.

Keep an eye out for EA, NEWL and NNK, you see those you know you’re in trouble. lol

Just wanted to say Happy Holidays to all my Yak’s peeps and Mag/DB. Keep up the good fight, don’t listening to all the “WOW you mad Bro’s” whinning the entire time. It’s been a great fight, specially against Mag… Hope you stay in our Tier.

Tiers are somewhat illusory in terms of real server strength, they rely so much on past performance. I think there are about 4-7 teams between Tier 3 and 5 that would all be pretty competitive within any arrangement.

Please listen and understand that DB does not and will not condone cheating. We can not help, just like yourself, if there our people on our server who feel the need to work outside the rules to win. I only ask that you report any DB player who you see cheating and hopefully they will be banned. The sad truth is that no matter what tier your in cheating exists because people are always looking for whatever will give them an advantage. Please accept this apology, and lets play this week of great WvW with respect for each other and end this fight over cheating.

Also this is not the correct place to make those accusations. this is a friendly WvW forum where people can come and enjoy discussing battles with the other servers. Please if you feel the need to call out a server for cheating, make your own thread, and don’t ruin this one for everybody else.

Not in my opinion, Dragonbrand are the biggest cheating server I and others have come across, and that includes Gates of Madness with their initial population, and Maguuma are only too willing to follow suit. For instance when they took advantage of WvW going out yesterday and speed took most of YBBL using a variety of cheats. Then of course Dragonbrand came on and we had instances of wall jumping etc. Yes some were reported but as per usual I doubt anet will actually do anything. I hope Dragonbrand wins by a huge margin moves up and we never have to see you again.

What a pity such a matchup has to occur across christmas. I know some people at least are refusing to play for the rest of the matchup because of the cheating.

I would like to clarify what happened that day just because I do not want all the work that was done that day just be passed off as “they took our whole borderlands, must be hacks” arguement. I was present before and after WvW crashed that day and I know exactly where and how the movement went on. I do not wish to insult any server, I just want to present the facts of what happened.

Right before reset, our commander dropped 10-13 golems, and we were gearing up to mesmer portal chain around the map and smash the keeps and towers. Right when we said we were moving out, the WvW server crashes, (For some reason every time we want to make a huge golem rush, the server crashes -_- Its happened 3-4 times for us already) and everyone desperately relogs back on and is asking on mumble if the golems are still there. Finding out the golems are all gone, the commanders, one of them my guildmate, was very agitated so we decided we would just bust everything down with rams. Dropped 3/4 rams per door, dropped by 2-3 supply camps before attacking the next keep/tower. Looted every tower/keep we took for supply and simply hit the next target.

Now for the glitching accusation, if you’re talking about when several players glitched through the NW tower door, we were all surprised but it was caused by any player who used ANY form of leap skill targeted at the door. Heartseeker, Leap, Leap of Feath, Illusionary Leap, etc. Anyone who glitched through the door were surprised and reported it on mumble, but were told to JUST JUMP OUT of the tower and continue like normal. Eventually those who were inside after they got glitched through again were told SIMPLY DPS THE DOOR and not attack anything inside until the door broke. This glitch was reported by one of the commanders already.

Quite simply, we were just surprised at the lack of a response from Yak’s. The server reset is a BIG factor for what happened, but everyone in mumble was too annoyed that we lost 13-15 golems and all bum rushed Yak’s BL as a whole to make the sting of losing all of our golems worthwhile. Lots of us said the spirit of our dead golems is helping us. I simply do not want the amount of siege and money that my guild member dropped that day be written off as “hacking.”

Aside from that, the match up so far has been very interesting and I am enjoying it. I think maguumans have been focusing Yaks a little too much considering they’ve been first place consistently so many of us felt Yak’s was the bigger threat. However, Dragonbrand’s night/morning presence begs to differ. Dragonbrand and Yak’s Bend both have some very solid players and leaders, and I hate for ANY server’s name to be tarnished by the actions of a few who do not wish to play this game legitly. If you find any hackers or glitchers, simply screenshot and report. All of our servers would gladly report a hacker from our own servers if we found them. Just give us info on guild tags and etc.

Now please, for the sake of Christmas/Winstersday spirit, keep this thread nice and clean so we don’t get it shut down twice in a week. I believe this match up deserves to have lots of good memories.

A brief history of DB: We were in the upper tiers since the start of the game, even since the beta iirc. We had a large WvW population with the same great Oceania presence we have today. But we had a large exodus of guilds leave for SoS, so we ended up with a weakened daytime presence (like we still do) with a night presence that was about equal to the upper tiers- hence we started getting absolutely demolished.

It took about 2 months to finally get out of that downward spiral, and once we stabilized, we ended up with a similar balance that we have today- weaker daytime but a strong nighttime (again, thanks to our Oceania players who didn’t jump ship <3 ). In the bottom tiers, where even daytime coverage is limited, we would just control the map almost 24 hours a day. So we’ve been climbing the rankings until the daytime presence of our opponents is finally greater than ours, creating the unique asymmetrical balance we have in our matches.

It seems we may have gotten a few transfers, but our daytime coverage has been mostly the same since we stabilized. We’ve got potential, but definitely quite a way to go to continue to move up more tiers.

Any corrections from DBers with better memories than I are welcome

I agree, this is a very interesting matchup so far. As I stated in the previous thread before its demise this is the first time I’ve had a bit of free time to play since Yaks dropped to this tier. This means other than trying to filter out the reliable information from all the noise in the previous matchup threads I don’t know how those went.

It’s always an interesting dynamic when one server has such a different prime time to the other two servers in the match. I think even though both Yaks and Maguuma did have a bit of pre-warning, not everyone follows the forums and a lot of people were taken by surprise. It’s particularly evident in the way that Yaks and Maguuma have been getting bogged down scrapping with eachother during our primes the first few nights instead of focusing on balancing out DB’s big gains during their prime by pushing them off of the maps first.

Seen some impressive play from Maguuma so far this matchup, some great coordination when attacking or defending points. Also, although I’ve only really run into DB during their prime when they have overwhelming numbers, they also play intelligently making them all the more deadly.

Ignoring the rogue elements who seem to be doing their best to ruin the matchup (hopefully ANET fixes this soon) I’ve enjoyed it so far, it’s just a shame it looks likely we wont be getting a rematch next week to see how things play out without christmas throwing that random element in there.

So does it make you feel better that when Mag had our hills fully upgraded and a mesmer glitched in the entire EA guild that was online just stayed at astral because we didn’t believe that mesmer had been hiding since they had the doors down over an hour earlier? Can you stop complaining already all servers have people who do stuff like this.

I am sad that people seem unable to maintain good spirits, so my new present to this thread is going to be reporting every post that complains about hacking. Merry Christmas!

Guys, this is not a forum for discussing possible exploits. This is a WvW forum for this match which means (correct me if I am wrong) discussing legitimate strategy, talking about cool things that occurred in the match, and just generally sharing things with the other servers that one does not have the opportunity to do in game.
I for one have seen some amazing strategy from both my own server (taking and holding Dragonbrand east borderland keep for over a day) and the others (Yak’s very effective small strike teams in borderlands and Dragonbrand trebbing Mag west borderland keep from extreme south end of southwest supply camp).

funny you should post this remark Barnaby. By your sig your from guild UhOh and a thief. Which was the guild the thief under the yak bend keep was from and was screen shot and reported.

I’m actually worried you guys might get hills upgraded again since you took most of our borderlands earlier. Haven’t logged on to check to see if the situation has changed though so maybe we got our bl (dragonbrand) back.

The trebbing of bay in Mag’s bl was a ton of fun. Still not sure why yaks was attacking our little fortified supply camp instead of trying to take hills or something since we had quite a few of you guys tied up trying to stop us. I was quite sad when you finally pushed us from our camp I liked it more than any keep I’ve defended.

We had the first mass fallout of guilds after we fought and lost badly against Crystal Desert and Blackgate(Not sure about BG being the 3rd server). We kept falling down a couple of rankings, and at this point a bunch of big guilds(mostly NA presence) were starting to doubt whether it’s worth it to stay in DB or not a.k.a. they gradually stopped playing wvw and server morale was low overall and this pushed us down the rankings further. A few weeks later SoS was starting to climb up the ladder and we met for 1 match up where the next major guild fallout happened, the majority of our NA presence and some Oceanic presence guilds went on to hop into SoS.

Tbh I’m relieved DB had mass fallout at the early stages of wuvwuv, because of this we started gradually gaining a stronger community and server loyalty. This means that once we stop winning we won’t get hit as hard by a mass fallout like before which was just plain terrible.

I also want to add that ‘Dragonbrand’ is one of the best server names in GW2.

Not exactly. we were in teir 2 and fighting blackgate and CD after 4 days of winning we lost a major oceanic guild to blackgate. we ended up losing that match in the end during the next week matchup we dropped a tier and were put up against SoS and we lost 7 NA guilds then we fell hard for many weeks.

SoS came wayyyyyyyyy later after DB had already had its first major fallout — SoS was our 2nd fallout which did us in NA presence-wise, literally wiped us of any major NA guilds we had in the server which to be honest wasn’t that much. The only guilds they took from us(that mattered in wvw) were around 2-3 major guilds.

From what I remember, there was a time when DB was paired up to fight against CD and JQ, we were 2nd place during this line up with JQ demolishing both CD and DB in points, I’m talking 100k+ lead. The next match-up was CD/DB/BG(unsure about BG being the 3rd server) and CD won against us, this is where the fallout started. We kept going down the ranks and kept losing more and more guilds on the way down.

As a player of Maguuma, with today being Christmas, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, but more especially for Maguuma’s #1 WVW Commander, Sir Commander Space-Pope of Starfleet Dental. Since the game’s release, I’ve played with many WVW Commanders, but only Space-Pope has shown has the resourcefulness and ingenuity that leading a group of players in WVW requires. He has managed to turn WVW from something that at one point I considered tedious and boring into an activity that actively promotes fun with his unique style of leadership, from starting friendships by encouraging talking and discussion during zergs about everyday matters so we all get to know one another, to his music bot playing appropriately themed music to make any WVW night a fun one, even when the odds are against us. As someone who didn’t care that much for wvw when the game came out, I now look foward to Space-Pope’s wvw nights. I look at Maguuma’s recent results and I can’t help but feel that Space-Pope is responsible for our recent successes in wvw.

On that note, I would also like to wish a Merry Christmas to Sir Commander Arus as well, Arus recently recieved his WVW Commandership a few weeks ago, and brings a unique style of leadership that Maguuma needs if we are to reach the next level in wvw. He has endured many hardships as a Guild Leader that many of us will never know, but I feel between Arus and Spacepope, Maguuma’s future in wvw in the upcoming brand new year will be more brightful and successful than ever before, and I feel that they can easily lead Maguuma to being the top server in wvw! Merry Christmas Maguuma!

No its called knowing when to quit. After seeing the 5 arrow carts, 3 ballistas and manned cannons in a fully upgraded Garrison with 1000 supply and over 30 defenders, it was time to think of another way.

In an attacking borderland with limited numbers, you are going to lose your stuff no matter what anyway.

Rebel Daughtre is ones comiited mother fer. If I were going to respect a commander, itd be him. The guy knows his business.

To all the guys and gals of DB and YB, I may poke fun at you now and then, and the mods may threaten to terminate my account now and then, but i love all of you.

Lol yes, I’ve seen photos, and yes we’ve dealt with the unfortunate incidents with a couple members, and it’s especially unfortunate that some of our guild members were in that screenshot. Those who were found guilty of such exploits were removed, so you can sleep easy at night. And your remark about me being a thief is just petty and ridiculous. Are you tired of getting killed by the heartseeker spammers? I’m sorry us thieves haven’t any worthy skills like you. We should look up to you and your elite skills.. smh grow up, the actions of a few is not a reflection of the server of the guild itself. Those “exploiters” are removed and black listed. As a commander, I do NOT condone exploits, but yes they happen. Your server is as guilty as my server, as any other server for that matter. Grow up and face the fact that there will always be exploiters and cheaters, and it’s up to you and me (those we consider “modest”) to rid our communities of such exploiters. All that aside, quit your whining and have fun. Merry Christmas to you and everyone else.

On a different note, good job Maguuma. You’ve taken the lead from DB, which was by nearly 10k points, in less than 5 hours. This week thus far has been extremely close and very competitive. Lots of great fighting on all sides. Keep it up, all!

Man I tried for the realming tonight. Was nothing to kill. Just fighting doors. Soooo boring.

That was a lot of fun defending overlook keep tonight. Had Mag taking pang and Ogrewatch every 5 minutes while YB kept control of Speld and our west towers and the countless trebs at SM hitting that wall. Good job DB holding onto the keep. The rest of the week should be a blast. Still a really close match, though even if DB were to win we probably still drop down a tier, what a messed up scoring system.

i feel honored that Mag and YB have to team up against DB due to our threat. It puts a ton of pressure on us in wvw yet surprisingly we hold out for the most part. Just imagine the domination if it was a fair 3-way fight in eb ^^. Very interested in the end result and i’ve never seen 2 servers work together so well.

thank you YB and Mag, we can play more fun in this week. DB may fall back to T5 but we enjoy this matchup. Also, i am proud to be DB member.

Just to show how cool this match up is: What other match up has a 1k difference between all the servers halfway through the match up?

There is a lot of amazing tactics going on by all sides, and each server is showing lots of tenacity and effort. I love that close matches will bring out all the players who we usually wouldn’t see because each server has a chance at winning this.

I honestly wouldn’t mind whoever wins this match. Lets just make it a good fight!

You know… I am officially branding Dragonbrand the mystery gnome server after a few nights of this match up.

YB and Mag wake up to have our precious towers and keeps reset by opponents we only see in our periphery.

And this week has been my favorite week so far.
