How long should WvW matches run for?
Imo given the balancing issues that still exist I think that 3 days is the ideal time. 1 week has proven to long again imo and I think that 2 weeks (which is where WvW is supposed to be heading) will just be painful.
Your thoughts?
The performance of a server can vary greatly depending on if it’s a weekend or weekday, for that reason I think it has to be a week.
I think either 1 week, OR 1 quarter year.
Seriously, 1 week matches give you a weekend and a full week. Three month long matches (if they can fix the snowball affect) would satisfy rivalries.

no., things change everyday, some days people work some days they dont, thing change drastically on the weekends. Certain pvp guilds might have certain days where they cant play together.
oviously you didnt play daoc, the 3 way matches there are perminate for a server with all 3 sides within and things would change constantly every week.
once the servers settle down from transfers and more pvp guilds are established with more level 80s you start to the 2 losing sides attacking the winning side more and changing teh scores

Something needs to change to encourage playing till the end. Theres all sort of solutions to this that have been posted. The match time is moot.

I agree. For me personally, the score isn’t that important, I’ll play even if we’re 300k behind. But a lot of people look at the score on a Monday and won’t even log in again until the next match.
I’d like to see some kind of reward for having the highest score over a 24 hour period. Something that would make people want to play, even when they are far behind. I’m not sure what that reward would be though? Perhaps something like for the next day you get a non-stacking orb buff? That is, if your world has no orbs, you still get the bonuses as if you had one, but if you do have an orb it does not stack with it. Or … maybe a new jumping puzzle with nice rewards that can only be accessed if your world had the highest score the previous day (this could be outside the WvW area, but should probably give badges and blueprints as part of the reward)?
It could instead be done over a 12 or even 8 hour period which could help negate the effects of “night capping”.

While for servers who dominate others 1 or 2 weeks seems " resonable " for servers who are be dominated even 1 week is too loong especially with free transfers.

I think once there is more data to deal with you can move to 2 weeks.

I think 4 days would be good for now. 1 week is too long at this point in time. I think most people on our server pretty much stopped playing on Tuesday.

But what about next week, or the rest of us this week? JQ dominated its bracket this week, and that discouraged the other worlds from playing, which discourages JQ from playing, so theres no real competition going on. There has to be some change to incentitvize WvW when the match is already lost.
A 3/4 week period seems reasonable to me. Reset on fridays and Mondays.
Two matches a week. Friday-Sunday match. Monday-Thursday match. Heck run two different ladders for matching servers as a strong weekend server may be very weak during the week.
Cut the price and supplies needed for siege by 50%, makes games a day.
With current system 2 week is too much. I’ve yet to seen a match which competition continuous after 3rd or 4th day. It might happened on other servers but I don’t think it’s that common.

I really doubt that is common, even on the high tier servers. Ranking system rarely match 3 really equal servers together. Night capping, Orbs and several other features are demotivating loosing servers.
I think a three and a half day cycle so the rest time varies.
For example, first match starts at midday on a Friday afternoon and finishes at midnight on the following Monday. New matchup starts a few minutes after midnight and finishes at midday Friday. Or Alternatvely you could have it start Midnight Friday finishing Midday Tuesday or 6pm Friday finishing 6am Monday.

People must consider other servers. Sure, if you are on the top server and dominate the other two, longer matches would be cool for you.
But if you are on one of the servers, that gets dominated, there is no fun having it run for so long.
I speak for myself, but i for one would even pause playing GW2 if the matches last too long and i’m in the “loser” server. Because i mainly play for thw WvWvW.

Dominating is not fun also. On current match-up, it was pretty obvious we’re gonna win this match at Tuesday. So I gave less effort on WvW.
Interesting thing is we completely facerolled by another server last week. And again we left the competition around at Tuesday I guess.

I think the ranking system taking “scores” too serious. That’s why servers going up and down too fast and face opponents which are not on their weight.
There are some servers which we could keep up competition for 1 week. However either we don’t face them or when we face we have a 3rd server facerolling both of us.
Perhaps it should be a simpler system that doesn’t take score to account, moving winner 1 up and looser 1 down. Of course it will take more time to find proper places for servers, but at least they won’t jump up/down too fast.

Not True, HoD was down 50kish after the weekend and we came back within Tuesday we had the lead.

This has been my issue, I’ve seen it since BWE. If there is no system to adequately balance servers then games should be kept shorter.
From what I have seen so far, 2 weeks will be way too long to make any difference in the score. If you loose, you are not more likely to start gaining points, on the opposite, your side will be more likely to gain LESS points in 2nd week, than in the 1st, simply because a lot of people will quit, while the winning team will be more motivated to defend their first place.
Not that it matters, I enjoy WvW more often than not, even though I’m on the 3rd place team most of the time
2 weeks is worth a try, one week hasn’t been bad so far. If you think 24 hour matches are somehow going to help you win, you’re delusional. All that will hapkitten that you’ll burn through money faster since all your siege equipment and fortification upgrades will reset in a short amount of time. I abstained from the 24 hour WvW (as did MANY people I talked to) simply because as a time investment they also thought it was a waste to blow hard to come by gold on fortifications/siege that was going to disappear in a few hours.
The other thing is that you don’t actually lose anything for having another server with 100k more points than you. You just don’t get as many gathering/gold/exp/etc bonuses as they do. But you do get what you get, and you should WANT to hang onto those longer so you can farm/craft/level/etc faster. Longer matches only benefit you even if you very slowly earn points, at least you’ll have time to capitalize on the bonuses in a 2 week cycle rather than having them dissolve after a few hours or days.
I personally hope it stays one week. Two weeks and out matched servers will just abandon WvW all together.
I now start to think more than 4 days is too much. From the scores posted on forums it seems only 1 matched continued to be competitive on later days of the week. Problem is that when score became obvious less players start to participate on matches on both winning or loosing sides.
So if we can have 2 matches per week, I strongly believe there will be more participation on WvW and more competition. Especially on Weekend matches.

I think more than 1 week would be a big overkill, after one week there is a huge gap in score between servers, one more week would just drag things along for everybody (losing or winning side). It’s quite nice to have this goal of every Friday night wait for the big reset.
As it’s one of the most interesting time to play (after a reset) it’s a bit sad it’s so late for the Paris/London/Madrid time (2am).
I think they should have the same week long match-up but break up the week, so 3 days on the weekend, 4 days for weekdays.
two weeks imo, gives you more time to run up the score even higher for even more bonuses for your server, also it gives servers more opportunities to make comebacks.
The longer the better imo. It’s tough to see you have 5 days left and are down by 30k points. It’s a whole other story if you are down by 30k points with 3 weeks left.

Anything less than one week would be a bad idea. The 24h rota was good to initialize the matchmaking system, but sticking to it would be a mistake. One week is perfect, you have the weekend to start followed by 5 workdays.
