so i was roaming around attempting to reclaim my keep with about 4 extra people helping me (the entire amount of people that where currently online and fighting for the server) and we managed to reclaim it. as we did the 70+ blob of enemies rampages into the keep and kills the lord and all 5 of us. then continues to leave golems at our spawn point lol so i have to ask. after awile of this i noticed my server was the only one that did not have an allied server paired to it. or 3 extra servers attached to it. and it confuses me alittle, if you’re going to pair servers together, why not evenly? also i kinda feel it defeats the purposes of tiers for the servers. maybe thats just me. also is there a way to create a reason for people to fight when the reset draws near? if you’re like me fighting almost impossible odds, people tend not to even try when they see that even if they owned all the maps they could not bring back the score so they don’t bother.

also if anyone else is having this clearly un-even numbers problem let me know! i would like to hear about it

No, don’t transfer! That’s part of the problem.

So you must be on YB. And based on your description I would guess you were playing OCX time and got run over by SoS’s OCX. That’s nothing new. That has nothing to do with linkings. This issue has been happening since launch.

YB was T1 at the beginning of this linking. So they had a high population when Anet took their measurements. But then they lost population and fell in ranking.

What you are describing has always been an issue. Its the problem of coverage. Some servers have more people playing at various times of the day.

The server linkings are made by attempting to match servers together to provide some sort of population balance. It has nothing to do with the number of servers but their population. Except that it seems human psychology makes us see 1 server v. 2 v 4 and freak out.

Thus leading us to the other problem you describe which has also been around since launch. Fairweathers. As you describe more people come out to play when they’re winning. And the higher population server starts winning and the fairweather effect compounds the initial population imbalance.

TLDR; The two issues you describe are population coverage imbalance and the fairweather effect. They are two of the most pernicious problems with WvW. And they are two of the hardest problems for Anet to fix. Server linkings were an attempt to fix some of this imbalance. I for one thank Anet for trying, it is better than it was before imo.

SoS is usually light when CD and YB are blobbing in force but crazy heavy OCX. Guild raid nights and fair weathers (and people just getting bored with the matchup) cause the numbers and coverage to fluctuate. Winning also attracts new transfers.

It is a bummer though. To me a balanced matchup means constant battle at SMC and keeps that are near impossible to flip. It’s boring to roll over the map just flipping stuff.

Besides, the “4” is losing the matchup (3rd, 20k behind 2nd). I don’t see a issue when the “1” and the “2” clearly can hold out against it.

OCX players like to PvD rather than spread out and fight each other. Been that way since release.

Linkings happen over the course of 2 months. If you are from YB, you were up in t1 just dropping to t2, and did not have a link. You won’t get linked for another 2 or 3 weeks. I can’t remember the exact date. sorry
