LOL, that is one of those terrible MoW thieves. I find this very funny coming from him, as all he does is run around cloak and daggering critters and running away from anyone that might kill him, which is anyone with any skill whatsoever. Plays like a coward, actually has “cheese” in his name, and throws a kitten fit about one of the best thieves in the game, h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s.

Hopefully we can get some folks to show up and do a fightclub thing tonight. I’m hoping maybe ~8:30pm server time? Things really slow down after that time in my server so most group activities are done.

Fightclub things don’t really prove anything btw but they do tend to promote better relations since there are kind of informal standards of conduct etc. Obviously some classes match up more competitively than others but if some variety shows up then you can usually find someone to spar with.

ps Try to leave at least one spot open if you are in a group so that you can chat with whoever you are dueling before and/or after the duel. (not fair to thieves if you stay in party during duel).

Any borderland is fine but access is easiest for players from outside their home BL so they can just scoot out the side exit from spawn to get their quick and easy.

Works perfectly for me. I’ll see if I can get some friends to tag along.

It would be best to have it on the BL where the host server is not contested much since the host server has the farthest to travel. So that means SBI borderlands southcamp windmill should be fine.

The rules are pretty straight forward. Once you down someone you let them get back up and what not. If a guild from said server is not complying with the rules and is just being a problem said server has to allow the other servers to wipe them. Plain and simple. Its just about having fun and getting some good fights for those who are into it.

I agree. That’s why I didn’t like it when a few people (and it was just a few) from SBI started tooting their own horns when they took the point lead early Saturday morning after losing the point race on reset night. Given your quote above, I’m guessing that you would agree that it’s in poor taste to say you won reset night when, in fact, you lost reset night and didn’t take the lead until you were able to PvDoor while people were sleeping. (Of course, it’s always possible that you are a hypocrite.)

So, I said something about it. Then some from SBI, including yourself, attacked me for simply stating a fact at which point it escalated quickly.

Don’t really see how that post makes me a hypocrite. I haven’t changed my opinion at all. People who feel the need to brag about destroying opposition with superior numbers are embarrassing, especially when they belong to your server. Maybe the only thing I would change is to add the condition “unprovoked” in there somewhere. I can see the appeal after having some thinly veiled insults thrown your server’s way. Implications of being unskilled and zerg babies and all that.

By the way, you and I will have to agree to disagree that posting a score update (which is all that was done before you chimed in with your rubbish) is “tooting their own horn”. Every single game thread SBI has been involved in until this match-up has involved posting many score updates. That this rubbed you the wrong way says a lot more about you than the person who posted it.

Anyway, some SBI folks did come and had some fun. Would like to see some IoJ here

Fight club was fun tonight thanks to the few SBI that came out and the plenty of DR, wish it had a bigger turnout from SBI and IoJ. Maybe next time there will be a lot more people.

Fight club was fun indeed, will have to work on getting more SBI folks out there although it was fun getting so many fights in since SBI had a low turnout. Need to polish up on fighting other mesmers, was getting wrecked by them in fights :s

Fight night was fun, I think we need to schedule more of these and see if we can work out a time that fits for all three servers. Had some quite good fights even though I lost them all, just showed me I have a weak spot in solo play for ele. Though being as I started ele for 5man tourneys doesn’t quite surprise me since I was running more team oriented builds or bunker and my current build is a split between both of them XD

Will have to work on fighting against mesmers and figuring out how to work with pistol thiefs, that range makes it so much harder, plus you guys run away less so it isn’t about catching up and killing you at that point. Though I was already noticing that before this. I will give mad props to that Ranger with the Ascendant title, I went in to that expecting a much easier fight and got caught way off gaurd!

So hopefully I will be around for next one and won’t be interupted with food half-way through. XD

The problem is that if you move up you will probably be evenly matched with one of the servers but the third will have a population advantage or a coverage advantage and they will be turning the maps one color while people are working or sleeping.

That leads to more of the winning server turning out while decreasing the number of people who turn out from the other servers. That is why the scoreboard is practically meaningless.

As I said last night, will try to get a few more SBI to show up next time.

I wasn’t directing the scoreboard comment at you personally, just lamenting about how matches can turn to crap because of the scoreboard and the number of people that actually care about it. If the match is balanced then the scoreboard race functions as intended. If the match is not balanced it leads to a snowball score.

This matchup is only going to get worse for you since IoJ and DR will lose the fairweather population and all that will be left will be the people who PvP for the sake of PvPing. SBI might actually win reset night this upcoming week because the people who play to win the scoreboard will just stop showing up since they know it’s futile.

One of the problems with getting people to turn out is the scoring system. If one server has a clear advantage in coverage, population or even just skill/tactics/strategy that gives them a lead in points that the other servers see can not be overturned many players just give up on trying. I don’t, because the score is pretty meaningless to me…but that’s me. It’s human nature to stop investing time in a hopeless cause.

I had an idea on how they could change how points are earned but I have not really taken the time to nor do I have the knowledge to consider all the variables or consequences. I am sure Anet has smarter people than me coming up with this stuff. But for the sake of argument here is a very rough summary of what I was thinking might work.

Instead of earning points only on captured assets. Players would also earn points for contribution that would add to the total score. Things like kills, keep/tower/camp captures, siege placement, upgrades, yaks escorted, npc nodes captured, repairs etc.

Then you change the out-manned buff to effect the amount of points players get based on a parentage of the population difference. And have rewards for those players buffed as well. This would give small groups a chance to make a difference and encourage them to keep trying even when overwhelmed by numbers.

I am sure there are all kinds of problems with that idea that I have not considered. And getting Anet to implement it would likely be impossible anyway. Just some random thoughts for what it’s worth.

Yes, this was fun even though I got there late and couldn’t stay but for a couple of fights. Hope we can do this some more. And get the word out so random roaming groups don’t disrupt the action.

I was in the middle of a fight with a mesmer that already felt like I was fighting a whole party when another party showed up and finished me off…lol…no worries, they didn’t know what was going on.

Anet really should introduce open world dueling into the game. sPvP is not the same as WvW and it does not really help hone WvW skills IMO.

I feel as though we’re sort of an inbetween server, and that’s slightly unfortunate. We’re able to take on T5 and do exceedingly well, but T4 is too much for us. There’s no middle ground where we can fit comfortably and have good, even match-ups at all times of the day.

That said, DR and IoJ are still showing up and doling out good times. Last night in EB when IoJ pushed out Veloka / OW was great! I also thoroughly enjoyed DR’s attack on SBI BL’s Bay. We only narrowly made it with reinforcements in time, and only barely held you back in spite of that! Those instances were awesome and memorable, and I look forward to and know there will be more. Even though our coverage puts you guys a little bit down and out, I’m happy that you’re still coming to fight and not making it easy. That says a lot about your servers!

We’ll see. DR, IoJ, and SBI have all gone through the mass fairweather bandwagoner exodus phase. So, the people who are left are less likely to just ditch because things aren’t going well.

Someone said it before and it’s true, IMO. If our three servers had more similar coverage this would be an extremely balanced bracket.

Oozo has a point that this match could get worse as less of the fair-weather’s show up.
Those left will have to come up with ways to maximize the potential of our dwindling numbers, hopefully in a way where everyone has fun, regardless of the score.

If its pvp-ing behind a windmill or launching sneak attacks on a large target, achieving those “awesome and memorable moments” should be our goal. DR wont be winning the point battle anytime soon, but we can hopefully still provide an entertaining experience for our foes, and more importantly, for our server mates.

Well there were those of us that kept fighting against the odds.. and low and behold we get some points and are winning and out of nowhere we have a queue on EB and people actually playing on all the borderlands.

I understand there are fair weather players but this is ridiculous. We should have had all these people in T4 instead of them crying about how we lost like 3 guilds.

Don’t get me wrong I really like all the people but I sincerely hope that all these players continue when we get outmanned or a harder match or (gasp) are in last place score wise because if we go back and forth from ghost town to steamroll it is going to suck.

Just an example of the difference.. In the YB CD fight I went to EB no one there. I decide to kill the veteran guards for the dailies and take some supply camps. I run into 1 other player and talk them into running back and forth with me to take a tower.. We take it- Then 1 other person shows up we take 2 more towers with 3 people lol. This was the EB population during that match up lol. It is by far much larger now- Not a bad thing I just want them to stay when it is harder!

We want to have fun. Fighting IoJ is more fun than fighting SBI most of the time (for reasons I mentioned earlier), hence why you won’t see any alliance between IoJ and DR.

We do have more players showing up then before because they see that we are winning in points.

But it is a gross exaggeration to say we have numbers on all maps at all times. That save at Bay mentioned above came because reinforcements were called for from other maps for example.

There have been quit a few occasions that I and maybe 3-4 others were the ONLY players in SBI BL (And this WAS prime time) and had to put out a call for help to save a keep being PvDoored. Many times they get there in time, but sometimes they don’t.

So response time and scouting should not be confused with having enough numbers for total BL/EB coverage. We aren’t there yet. And if we move up it tier to soon we will find that out the hard way!

My issue with those on SBI who only show up when we are winning is they tend to ride the coattails of us more hardened wvwvw players. For a good month we struggled to get more then 10-15 people on one map or even get a breakout event started. People would come into a map and see the score, QQ in map/team chat and then leave. It got to the point where many of us that continued to fight no matter numbers or score, began to post in map chat for people to GTFO or transfer if couldn’t handle our descent into lower tiers.

Now we can have 20+ zergs on all maps during NA prime time. Its annoying as all kitten hell. I don’t want to slam you that bail out so easily when the fights don’t go our way, and I understand that this a game and should be a source of enjoyment, but we are one hell of a fare weather server. Its understandable though, when most of our wvwer’s jumped ship to stay in tier 1 or 2 and not a rare occurrence in GW2. Look as recently as SoS, who we might be facing within the next few months.

One thing that would help tremendously, as Krash stated above is a reworking of rewards and the scoring system in wvw. Look at the scores across the board at all tiers and you see huge discrepancies. WvW needs A LOT of attention from Anet.

Excellent post, but I wouldn’t say that SBI is any more of a fairweather server than other servers. Probably less so in most cases since you have suffered an exodus. All of the servers are going to have PVErs who come out when they see a winning score and not come out when they see a losing score.

What they don’t realize is that the score doesn’t translate to them not getting slaughtered in the open field.

It is frustrating. I mean where were these people. I don’t talk much in wvw but I am in there almost everyday.. even if just for a bit. I see names that never talk, but I have seen them by me and know they have been here for the long haul… Now there are commanders that I have never even seen there name in here before. It is welcome we needed commanders but I am not sure where the hell they came from . I could understand if it had been a player that did not have the gold and just got it but I do not recall ever seeing some of these names.

Again it is fine I welcome everyone to fight with us, just do not leave us again when it is a tough fight PLEASE.

We’re definitely not at the point where we can field 20+ zergs in all maps, otherwise we’d not be in T5. We can, however, usually field 10-20 in two maps at once during our primetime, and usually get a few small groups of 5-10 going on in the off hours. More often than not, the only reason we can get such high ppt during off hours is because those 5-10 player groups encounter zero resistance. Being able to constantly flip DR/IoJ holdings also makes it worse for you guys because you just can’t upgrade anything, which makes it all that much easier to take back. It’s a vicious cycle.

I know a few people have come out and followed me only because I was working at painting EB green and they needed overlook or valley keeps or something. If anything, though, it’s more important than ever for those of us who have been with SBI through thick and thin to stick with it, because we have invaluable experience in T1 against the likes of JQ, SoR, SoS, and so forth and it was instrumental in our capabilities now. We just need to stick together and keep doing what we’re doing. Maybe now that we’re doing well in a tier again, we can work on rebuilding up our numbers by luring some of the more fairweather players to stick around.

We can, however, usually field 10-20 in two maps at once during our primetime, and usually get a few small groups of 5-10 going on in the off hours.

Dude. Just stop it. You are saying SBI only fields at most around 40 people on all maps combined during prime time?

Well EB has had a queue lately so I have no idea how many that is. I would say I have been in a group of about 40 here lately on that map. The borderlands can be anywhere from 5-20ish maybe 30 on 1 map not all 3 —- prime time. If that makes sense lol 1 borderland will have the majority with a few scattered groups on the other 2. That is what it looks like to me anyway.

There are players on all the maps nowadays.. We use to have to combine to get a small group on 1 map and usually it was our borderland.

Only, no, but that is the composition of our primary zergs. Of course sometimes it varies by +/-5, and I know we procced swords twice last night during a few sieges. There are also guilds and groups that run off and assist in other ways such as running interference, taking camps, or scouting. Tuesday we had a queue in EB and a surprisingly large force, which is anomalous and definitely hasn’t been typical even during this match-up. That said, this morning we had 6 people in EB altogether, and had quite the time taking Veloka from IoJ.

The match-up is imbalanced, and we do have better coverage than the other servers, but this isn’t anything like the higher tiers in terms of numbers fielded, and I say that from having been there.

I don’t want to get into the “Server Population Size” war that most of the people here spout on about. I do notice during the first four days that there was no real “Night Capping” done by any one side. People where holding there Borderlands and end of Eternal Battelground and what I felt was IoJ prime time(7 PM EST – 12 PM EST) was SBI/DR prime time as well. Sometime during Monday IoJ prime time there was a lot guild tags I never seen on SBI till then. Ever since then when I do a quick WvW map check at 10 AM EST SBI owns almost everything and there seems to be a rather large presence of SBI in both IoJ borderlands and EB.

Anyway, I don’t look at the score much anymore since SBI pulled a lead since Saturday night. I know the people that talk to in the IoJ TS will keep fighting and spending siege regardless of numbers. Just wish IoJ had a bit more numbers to spend on defending and scouting so we can free up our current pool of Teamspeak guys for offensive pushes. Nothing sucks more then getting a panicked call for reinforcements on BOTH IoJ and EB battle grounds while doing an assault.

I know this won’t help much, but any SBI people can confirm that you received some transferred from a higher/lower Tier? Because right now Storm bluff Isles and Ehmry Bay are in some kinda of half tier limbo. Both have better coverage/people for any server in T5 but both lack the coverage/people for T5. Which sucks because you are ether getting beaten bad or betting people so far into submission that there is no fun.

I don’t have any good solutions to this, but a thought to fix the imbalance would be to spread some the coverage/people from SBI to DR/IoJ and try to find an equilibrium where there is coverage/people on all three servers. This fix would not require anything to be done from A-Nets side and because of how rankings are done, no one will be shoved out of tier and good fights will be found at any one place at any one time.

Though I doubt the above stated fix would be done and it is really only a theory. On top of that people seem to have the notion that if new servers are not fought every week it gets stale…

I have no idea what numbers are like during off hours. But, SBI puts out some considerable numbers during primetime. We are constantly fighting 30-40+ in the BLs during primetime hours every single night. We avoid EB when we can because that is worse.

Just FYI in case you haven’t been watching what is happening in T1….SoS is on the way down here as BG has lured their more fair-weather guilds like other servers did to us…I have heard they even paid some of them in gems to transfer……mercenaries can not be trusted to be loyal in the long run though I am thinking….and so the server-go-round continues…lol

Can’t confirm it but there are guild tags I am not familiar with and we went from high pop to very high this week as far as a server. So I think it is safe to say that we have had some people either start playing again or transfer.
