Since the new random match up system is in place, why not to also make the match up last just 24 hours? In other words I mean reset everyday, at same time as it happens on Fridays. This way the ladder would balance itself faster, assuming Arenanet’s theory would work.

Now those servers who got a “lucky” roll and ended up in a too high tier, wouldn’t need to spend several weeks being facerolled, but would at least have a good chance to get a new fresh match up everyday.

Having reset every night would probably bring more people to WvWvW, at least to check what the new opponents will be.

I couldn’t agree more (for 24hour match-ups) but lets not do that because of a “new system”. Let’s do it because it makes sense.

I couldn’t be more perplexed than I am now with the WvW devs. I know their goal isn’t to create a poor WvW experience but as a player.. I’m not having fun.

I think balance is out for the foreseeable future given how all matchups now will be randomized.

Let me take this a step further, would the WvW team be willing to create a blog post on their pros and cons of why week long matches. I really don’t understand why you choose week long matches.

honestly I enjoy not having a reset every day it sucked to stay competitive you needed to be actively in wvw everyday as a server the way it is now players can compete with others in the great reset push then as it winds down later and the rankings are set/last few days of fighting for it, can move into pve/spvp without the feeling of ditching their fellow guildies/servermates

I don’t agree with the reset everyday, mainly because of the hard work people put into upgrading their keeps/towers to higher Tier levels.

My example is, imagine the keep you have been battling to maintain and get to Tier 3 (full upgraded for you non-WvW), only to log in the next day and its completely paper again (no upgrades) is frustrating. During the week, if that was to happen then its understandable, but to lose it because of reset sucks. On the flip side, taking down an enemy Tier 3 keep a few days later feels great for the players involved because its extremely hard to do.

No, a week is good.

24 hours or even a weekend/weekday split doesn’t work because some servers are stronger on certain days, so you need a week to get an accurate picture.

Also, I remember the frequent resets after launch and they kind of sucked. Nobody wanted to upgrade anything because what’s the point?

The original intention was for two week matches if I recall correctly, I do agree that would be to long and I’m glad they decided not to do that.

This makes it sound like you’ve just update your FaceBook status and are seeking validation.

Servers need some stability. The weekly matchups work well because populations vary across a week. Also, I would be really sad to see the Friday night reset disappear. It’s a great event on my server, and we all have a lot of fun with it. If it happened everyday, the magic would disappear.

Sorry, but no +1 from me. I did throw one to the person who takes pride in upgrading their keeps, though. That’s underappreciated work (and expensive!)

@manbearpig, what you like is exactly what I do not like. The fact that you can get so far ahead that you can now “coast” some part of the week. (e.g. what you are saying is, the other teams can’t catch up). For me, it causes me to not want to log in and I say that if I am on the winning OR losing side.

@Markadis on yaksbend, we often lose the upgrades to non-North American time. when I log in and see a waypoint.. I think wow!

@Nikked friday night magic.. exactly!! by FAR the best experience of the week is Friday.
Let’s figure out a way to duplicate that. By Sunday night.. most of the magic is gone and the winner/loser is already determined. People go on to do other things. See manbearpig’s response above.

@anet if one week is really loved that much then give us different servers. I’ll gladly move to a 24 hour server and lets others enjoy the week long server.

Well, perhaps could halve it the match in length again, and have a reset in the middle of the week. Say early tuesday morning by pacific time, in addition to the friday night pacific time reset.

That would have the bonus of encouraging late week participation, and put the reset domination duty on others timezone, spreading the burn.

I guess we’re spoiled in Tier 2 NA (or were before the changes, we’ll have to see if it remains that way, I think it will). Our fights usually don’t start up really till Tuesday and often go down the the very last hour on Friday for the winner.

I don’t think this is a good idea, considering how long it takes to upgrade a keep to maximum, you’d only get to take advantage of a fully upgraded keep for about 12 hours top, people wouldn’t even bother upgrading keeps anymore and all you would see is paper walls and doors.

You’d also see the attitude of people not really caring about actually winning.
Server 1: Oh man we just lost our garisson in EB and our BL, oh well it’ll be back tomorrow.
Server 2: Alright we got their garisson, lets just find the next target cause defending this isn’t gonna be worth our effort.

3 days seems like a fair amount though.

lv80 with skills fully unlocked, warrior, elementalist and engineer
lv80 Necromancer, all professional skills unlocked, working on the final norn elite skills.

Trying to make world v world more about being a keep capture instanced battleground is not what rvr /wvw is about.

They do need to add instanced pvp for our real characters to play in (not that garbage ultra fail spvp swill)

Wvw and rvr was always about the the people and rivalries, the current failed design that makes it about capturing empty keeps at 3 am, turning it more into a 3 way world of warcraft hot join AV is 100% not the direction to go.

This is bad.

Fun thing about WvWvW is the guild rivalry. Studying enemies tactics and ways to defeat their zerg only happens if the matchup takes some time.

Making your structures fully upgraded is a valid point and getting to know your enemy guilds for months upon months is also a good argument, however I will raise couple valid points:

For many months Desolation was in tier #1. The imbalance of the game and lag made us lose most of our WvWvW guilds. Despite having a huge player exodus, we still stayed in tier 1, when it didn’t make any sense. Our coverage isn’t good enough even for tier 2. For many weeks we wanted to drop tiers, which finally happened.

Upgrading keeps didn’t make much sense as every single morning enemy controlled 95-100% of the map. In EU only few servers have a night time coverage worth mentioning. Most EU players live with 4 time zones: British Standard Time (GMT), Central European time (GMT+1), Eastern European time (GMT+2), Moscow Time (GMT +3, but they have no summer time).

WvWvW matches have been so imbalanced for months upon months that the match winner has already been decided after couple of days, half of the week no longer mattering. This is obviously bad game design: winner shouldn’t be decided until the very end to keep things exciting.

Now it seems, thanks to this “lucky” roll, this madness will continue for many weeks, probably months. Some other European servers, like Vabbi, are even in worse situation. Enemy has been facerolling them whole year.

We need some game mechanisms to give the outmanned side a real buff. 1 day, 2 days, 3 days… we should really also experiment with shorter reset times.

The quick resets in the past made WvW bad because there was no permanence and nothing to care about. If you go back to a 24 hour reset cycle there will be a lot of people and guilds burning out quicker because they feel they need to play at full tilt 100% of the time, and that isn’t sustainable.
