3 Suggestions/thoughts for a better WvW experience:

1: new Debuff/Condition: “Taunt”

When watching Wooden Potatoes on youtube talking about data mining for HoT content the other day I saw that there was a new possible skill introduced called “taunt”. That gave me an idea:

What if there was a skill called “Taunt” that actually activates “friendly fire” on a target for a given amount of time?

Example: You taunt an elementalist in a zerg, therefore all his skills will now also hit friends (for, say, 10 sec). When he gets tauntes he enrages and just doesn’t pay attention whether he hits friends or enemies anymore.

That would make those boring zerg fights a lot more interesting in my opinion. ;-)

2: server balance

It’s really, really time to make some changes when it comes to server balance. WvW just doesn’t make sense when the outcome of a fight is known weeks in advance because it merely reflects server population. The new maps are exciting – but to me it’s mainly the unbalanced servers that make WvW boring. New maps alone won’t help getting that excitement back, that made me want to fight for my server.

In my opinion we desperately need a different (mega?-)server system. What about the ESO system – does anyone have experiences with it. Is it better “population-wise”?

3: make the obsidian sanctum a true arena

What if the Obsidian Sanctum got a real Arena without factions but plain, deadly PVP, everyone on his own, everyone against each!? It’s empty and completely useless the way it is now anyways. Storywise it would make sense too: Everyone wants the treasure in the end, so it is played against each.

1. Please god no. Punishing allied players that hard for their ally’s mistake is not a good way to have fun. So called “rally bots” are enough, let alone the rally bots forcing me among them.

2. Server identity is what makes WvW fun, at least for me. While population is an issue, this is what the tier system tries to address. The idea being that your server should settle in with others of approximately equal WvW population. In the long run it balances out, but remember that the improving servers need to be allowed to win in order to move out of the poorer bracket.

3. Obsidian Sanctum is already being used primarily for GvG. Until a better system for organized GvG is in place, I would hope that OS is not changed in any way.

agree about server balance. I becomes a self fulfilling prophecy where people look at the lineup and don’t bother. Disagree that my pet and my rapid fire against the gate(when I am not taking out other targets) should not count.

3. Sounds fun, kinda reminds me of the Wildy, cookie to anyone who gets this.
I think GvG could be moved to a new PvP game type, guilds would probably appreciate a more structured environment anyways.

How would that effect a zerg much? They have higher capacity to carry more supply.

Honestly, would prefer WvW to see a color split similar to EoTM where individual servers rotate colors, and the colors fight. Data like coverage, peak population, objectives taken by guild/origin server, etc., is very easy to acquire with some database knowledge (which I assume ANet has for obvious reasons), and can be used to formulate team compositions on a weekly basis. Server ranks would then still be scored by individual server performance (basically add another piece of data to objective event instances, or query cleverly), also keeping the tiers in place with few issues. Your server-mates are still your only true, permanent allies, and this helps solve issues with coverage, guild politics (guilds leaving for other servers/being bought out and creating power vacuums, etc., etc. Server pride is great and all when you’re winning, but when you have your back against the wall or are wanting to WvW in a low-tier/low-pop server, it’s pretty crappy and really detracts from the experience to have no allies fighting alongside you.

The forseeable issue is the lack of tech to handle so many people, but I think it’d be manageable if they kept both the alpine and desert BL’s available simultaneously as options and upper the player count just a little. WvW attracts a lot of people to GW2. Unfortunately I think the lack of support for it causes a lot of people to also leave.

1. No, dear god no this is an absolutely horrible idea and impractical in so many ways. Not only would this completely destroy wvw and discourage any aoe specialized professions like ele/necro, it would completely screw up combo fields/finishers. This idea is not technically or practically possible and even if it were would be a nightmare game over for wvw.

2. No, wvw does not need megaserver system. Go to eotm if you want that and see what kind of brainless unorganized farm that is, and dont get all these ideas that its all balances, cant tell you how many times someone is posting here about how UNBALANCED the populations in EoTM are. Server identity took a hard enough hit with the pve/pvp megaservers, doing it to wvw would destroy any idea of community left and many guilds as well.

3. Want pvp go to pvp, want wvw do actual wvw. OS needs to be changed in quite a few ways, making it more GvG friendly would be nice.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

How it would affect a zerg? Easy, disable/kill siege and they cant pvd their way in.

who cares about server identity

i am sick of a empty wvw map and castles with no one defending

make wvw faction based and be proud of your faction identity

if your guild is good u will have even more chances to recruit people because servers wont be getting in the way

and the only reason EoTM is a brain less train is because u are not rewarded for doing anything else besides running in a train
they are short matches- u don’t up grade anything defend anything just collect points

just because something is a mega server does not mean it will end up like EoTM
EoTM is like this because of the rules in place
and how they reward the players for playing in EoTM

Exactly. IF they removed the exp rewards from EoTM, nobody would play it. It’s also not taken seriously as a map currently because the map itself is laid out in such a terrible way.

If server pride really existed, anyways, guilds in T1/T2 wouldn’t be bought out and transferring around to the winning enemy servers on an almost weekly basis. Guild pride still exists, and it is in fact your guild’s name and banners that still get displayed to the enemy. Your server still exists and still has an individual rank. This time you just have allies to spice the game mode up and keep it moving at all hours of the day for all server populations. The servers being isolated entities in WvW is totally arbitrary.

And if two resentful guilds end up on the same side? Suck it up and deal with it. I was told that exact phrase when I was six in terms of working with people I didn’t like. And y’know what? When you move past your ego, you can get a lot done. If guilds aren’t then going to cooperate because of their egos, let them. Both will drop in rank, and likely garner a lot of disrespect from the rest of the players on their servers or in their communities.
