30 minute defense of tower vs Viz.
i second this…
when fighting vizunah they are the weakest players… in a fight deso runs over them every single time! at the end of last week vizunah just decided to run away from fights and teleport back, even when they outnumbered us…
however, since deso doesnt have the numbers interested in wvw we keep losing in points cause we cant cover more then EB (and sometimes a borderland). deso mentality = winning fights > winning in points…
~ Desolation
It is it an over generalization to call all VS players weak.
Every server has good and bad players. I have met some good VS players, especially thief and elementalist players. I tend to have less respect towards thieves as the combination of high mobility (shadowstep) + stealth is overpowered in WvWvW. A thief can reset a fight when he wants and run a very high burst and low defense build with little risk. I also got a level 80 thief, so please don’t turn this into a “learn to play” thing as it isn’t.
There are certainly differences between the servers. A typical VS PuG player runs a glass cannon. High damage, but very low health and toughness, thus they get downed very easily. Jade Sea seemed similar, so maybe it is a French cultural thing? For comparison Elona Reach (ER) likes sturdy PVT builds. They have much more survivability, but lack in burst and critical damage.
Both builds can be effective. Thieves and mesmers often run glass cannons. Visunah players are not afraid of armor repair bills, thus you can see them use their superior numbers to take down enemies.
I like this kind of Alamo last stand defense. As a commander I have order Desolation use a very similar Treb + AC defense at Cliffside. We didn’t lose the tower, despite hoardes of enemy tried to capture it for many hours and they used all the tricks from their own trebs to mesmer portal bomb. I think Cliffside is easier to defend than Longview. Generally the East side of the BL map is more easily defended e.g. Hills is also easier to defend than Bay.
I fully agree on the Desolation mentality. We care more about personal WXP and the loot bags than server points. It is very obvious in EB. Two people are defending the SM castle against 20+ enemies. The zerg + commander doesn’t come to defend and tells in map chat “Let them take the castle”.
But Desolation really shouldn’t be matched up against VS. We haven’t won a single match up in 2013 and the only times we came second was when SFR wanted to drop. Our rightful rank is about 7, but we are at the moment rising up in points, despite losing.
This is yet another proof that the glicko system is not working. I am quite sure VS is not playing at full force at the moment and neither SFR. I think VS is bored with this match up.
In my opinion the real EU top tiers and ranks should be:
Tier 1
1. Visunah Square
2. Seafarer’s Rest
3. Elona Reach
Tier 2
4. Baruch Bay
5. Jade Sea
6. Kodash
Tier 3
7. Desolation
8. Piken Square
9. Riverside

SFR has the same problem, we just don’t have as much ppl to swarm every battlefield like most servers, thus we are losing in the final score. Yesterday we spent the whole afternoon being double-teamed on EB, eventually we lost every tower, but the other battlefields were so empty that we came out on top in the overall ppt
Elona Reach and Jade Sea are actually not as bad as VS. I mean they still lose to us but that’s normal
Desolation is a WvW ghost town this week even at peak.We do not even have time to build any siege in a tower or our own garrison before it is taken again.Only the most hardened commanders can only swallow it for so long before backing out.
Vis is probably as bored of these two weeks as Desolation is frustrated.

I need to take my words back: Visunah seems to be enjoying what they do since day 1. Just the number of immature /laugh emotes proves that. They like to win by numbers. Baruch Bay is very similar although their tactics are bit different.
I really hope Desolation will be matched against EU rank7-10 servers this Friday. We deserve a fair match up and chance to win after being facerolled for entire year 2013.
I agree that this is indeed very difficult time for Desolation BL commanders. I have seen even hardened commanders from INVI to step down and leave the map after losing everything in Deso BL. This week Deso BL has certainly been the most challenging map. I was commanding two hours today noon. We managed to defend Hills on that 1st battle, but 2nd battle was a loss. We had no siege to talk off, 6 people vs 15 BB at Hills and our Garrison was attacked by VS zerg at same time. And of course we were outmanned. It wasn’t complete losses though as we took several towers and camps, but seriously with so big difference in the amount of players, you cannot just expect much better when two enemy groups, who are bigger than your entire map population are double teaming you.

I don’t know why I keep calling them Viz?Maybe that is what the sound that is in my brain when I see them.
I have never seen the outmanned symbol so much on Deso BL.Pretty sad to see as I have just got back into WvW after the last major update and have had plenty of fun where the losing wasn’t so bad as it has been this week.
Two options, grin and bare it,or go do something else.Seems like most have taken the sensible second option.
Maybe there should be an npc reinforcement option ;p.
“Legendary defender archers to me.”
We held Cliffside against 20 BB who needed help from another 20-25 man guild for about 50 minutes we just simply outsmarted them. Viz aren’t all that bad though I was on their borderland during prime time and they ninja’d Bay and Hills behind our backs, so they CAN use their numbers to their advantage not just to form a blob.
By the way I am sorry if we’ve left Deso BL to fend for itself I do not make the decisions which guild goes where, I’ve commanded on there and it’s not been easy.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.
