Q:

What to expect and what changes are they bringing to wvw?

Confusion Nerf in WvW, totally saw that coming .
Reveal nerf back to 3 seconds PvE/WvW but 4 seconds in PvP. (Don’t understand why it’s 4 seconds in PvP but whatever).
Signet stat passives boosted from 90 to 180.
Active on SOME Signets getting changed.
All Pets from all classes will no longer attack stuff you have not attacked.
Spirit Watch – Orb 40% slow affects Ele RTL. Channel to get orb increased from 2 to 3 seconds. Spawn on orb increased to 10 seconds at the start of the match.
Next patch is mostly bug fixes because this patch is a massive balance patch.

New trait in Warrior Defense line, Reduces imob/chill/cripple duration and you gain Regen (regen has internal cooldown).
New trait combined for Warrior. Burst skill recharge reduced and amount of adrenaline consumed.
New Warrior Trait. (Master i think) 3% damage per boom on the enemy.
Warrior Signet of might active changed. Next 3 attacks will be unblockable.

Thief Mug Trait can no longer crit, but now it also heals 2K (scales with heal power).
Flanking Strike tracking has been improved, 2nd hit no steal boons.

Ranger pets will now try to move behind the target if they don’t have aggro.
Ranger pet stats have been improved across the board (This is going to come back and bite rangers down the road).
Ranger pet F2 activation times improved.
Spirit pets health increased.

Ele mist form locks you out of utilities (No more #6 healing in Mist form HUGE change)
RTL Changed to be 40 seconds, but if it hits something it will be 20 seconds (Blocks/invul ect count as a hit).
Signet of Restoration passive nerfed slightly.
30 Point trait that removes a condi upon gaining regen will have a 5 second CD (Trait is dead).
Conjure Duration increased (Still useless).

Engineer healing turret initial heal reduced, overcharge healing increased and CD reduced and removes condis.
Incendiary Powder changed from a 2 sec burn every 3 secs 33% chance to 4 seconds every 10 with a 100% chance.
Can no longer use Skills during Elixer S (Same as mist form).

Battle and Energy Sigils getting looked at, among other underpowered ones.

Mesmer Mantras getting reduced by .5 Seconds.
Distortion (F4) will no longer contest a point.
Moa Elite can be used on the run. Moa #5 run skill reduced in distance.
Illusion of Life cast time is being increased.

Guardian mostly bug fixes.
Spirit Weapons health boost.

Necromancer Minions getting health boost.
Epidemic and Corrupt boon no longer blockable.
Death Shroud getting a 5th skill, a new kind of Condi but its still in the works.

Several changes were highlighted in the spvp State of the Game – I covered those highlights here:

Beyond that we know something is changing in relation to blueprints due to a post by devon. I imagine there will be more changes but I don’t really know. We should see the patch notes pretty soon.

Edit: In addition an arrow cart mastery upgrade tree will appear for the wvw ranks – no other details have been leaked about exactly what it will do.

There were a few things said in the state of the game specifically about WvW that I want to highlight here.

1) Elementalists, guardians, and thieves will no longer be able to destroy trebuchet projectiles
2) WvW/PvE split for Confusion condition and Retaliation Boon, confusion and retaliation will do less damage
3) Thieves stealth change is being reverted in WvW and PvE, but not sPvP (back to 3 seconds revealed debuff from 4).
There are some general balance changes to the classes, including the introduction of boon hate to warriors and the ability to steal boons using a thief sword skill but I wanted to point to the things that were said specifically relating to WvW.

Please be more then just new ballista skins, I hope the next big WvW update will include working on a new map but doesn’t have to be next month.. will be nice if we know it is in the making.

Rather wait few months for a wvw map, then every week a new siege skin.

Lets hope it include the fixing of all the exploits and hacks!

Macros, you can use them as long as they arent macros.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.

Maybe Fix mesmer before screwing us over? I’m not really fussed about confusion being nerfed but for god sake fix the clones not holding offhand weapon first.

Can Anet stop wasting time with updates like the Super Adventure thing, that lasts only a month and do something productive with your programmers and modelers, like a new map or variations on the different borderlands. SAB only lasts a month and how much time did you put into it. I may as well have just played minecraft.
The big wvw update was just a few new stats for playing.

If my mesmer had other conditions to use as well I’d not mind the confusion change but as it’s my only real condition and I only do WvW I slowly gather laurels via the daily.

Having to re-gear completely as my only condition is basically trash now isn’t very appealing and tbh I’m rather bitter towards Anet as a company for wasting my time.

Swap confusion to a bleed/poison/anything else

Totally support this suggestion. Instead of just destroying the build completely, give us atleast something in exchange or increase confusion duration by 100%.

It has been stated several times that the development of SAB didn’t take ANYTHING from the other parts of the game.
Besides the SAB is coming back in the future and based on the reactions here on the forum it was a rather good addition since loads of people seems to love it.

The people working on SAB were not the people working on WvW, nor the people working on the living story, dungeons, features or whatever.

I mean its cool we can get some general information from these sotg’s and such but theres wvw players that have wvw specific questions. Agree with Tallis completely. Well they could have used their monthly salary, not use it on SAB team, and get more ‘skilled profession balancing’ hired, to TEST stuff actually before it goes life (and conclude the obvious fact, that the confusion nerf is way over the top).

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

I would like to point out a power that last too long 7sec immobilisation “plant” destroyable : often jumping just enable you to destroy it as you stay locked in jump… Would be nice if it get fix on the incoming patch.

All these changes and yet Ele’s will still beable to Vapor Form through the portals into keeps/towers etc when in downed state and cannot be attacked, this is the only class that has the ability to escape downed into a safe location. Are you going to boost the others classes so we can escape into a portal to avoid death too????

Holy poo, calm down a bit.
Anet is really trying to make all classes the same to prevent any interesting compositions in groups or different options of playing your own class.
RTL with 40s cd1 if you dont hit anything? Better place a TON of ambient creatures around on the WvW maps. And take every single skill from thief and warrior that can help their mobility! And take the rush from the snow leopard too!
Better take the support out of the staff ele too! Oh wait, he cant remove more than 1 condition with his 45s cd water field!
At least its a buff to necros and engies.

Confusion nerf is ok, retaliation nerf not needed in any kind or form. Warrior new super-trait wont find any use because of the placement.

Guildies were calling me crazy when I said ele will get really boring soon and I rather try to lvl a guardian now. Cant do anything wrong with a guardian! Never in this game!

If you take away the possibility to destroy counter trebuchet shots, which will be fired nearly always from higher grounds, you now have made it literally impossible to capture a keep or tower with smaller numbers if it’s t2 or above. How many changes are you intending on adding that will DECREASE the variety of tactic and strategy in the game? Are you even serious? Yesterday I had a player in my raid that asked me if you brought the mystic orbs back into wvw because the altars are still in the game. Seriously, start to actually play wvw and think about it before making random changes that will kill all the fun in the game. You still making changes that are screaming: “Hey we have no Idea what we are doing but let’s go on and change stuff, just because we can.”

You do know that it is fully possible to hurt and even kill a thief that is in stealth, right?
They don’t become immortal just because you can’t see them.

So Mr thief take an extra step before unleashing another massive burst and dropping his target to the floor. Counting to 3 is hard.

You clearly don’t understand the situation. They can’t just “fire” divisions of their team when they don’t need them anymore so they can hire more guys to assist with other divisions. That’s a seriously poor business practice. For one its extremely time consuming and costly to hire new guys, get them up to speed on the current projects, and get them familiar with the programs core code. If they were to just randomly start throwing away whole divisions for the sake of strengthening others do you think they would be successful as a company? The short answer to that is “no”.

As for the previous comment about getting the SAB team to work on the WvW side of things, while not completely out of the picture, it would be difficult having to shift their whole roster around all the time. Secondly, while not an exact reference, moving one division from on project over to another would not guarantee the problems there get solved. For example if they were to move their art team over to WvW we would get “Pretty WvW”. Would it still have the problems it has now? Most likely….but it be pretty at least. Based on what we saw I would say the SAB team had atleast 1 artist, maybe 2 or 3, and several scripting programmers. Anything else would be extra I would think. Artists would not help WvW much as previously stated and scripting programmers are good for scripting events… Which would mean you would get more things like the grub in WvW…. do you really want that? That is my opinion on the makeup of their team for SAB and it could be wrong, but only the devs know.

Having multiple devs/programmers on a single aspect of the game can be nice, but it tends make the game more focused on that single aspect. I’d rather have a game with multiple dev teams working on multiple aspects of the game. It makes for a better game all around. As to testing things, Internal testing works to find major bugs, but more often than not most MMOs will use the player base to find all the others because it is more time efficient to do so. Having 10 guys testing 1,000 hours of content would mean each guy has to test 100 hours. Having 10,000 Players testing those same 1,000 hours would mean each of those players only needs 10 hours. We know there are way more than 10,000 players in the game all doing different things of it. This is not a single player game that will be released with no internet connection updates so testing content is not as required by the dev teams. So by having the player base test stuff (Which a good collection of them don’t mind testing for a game they love) is far more cost effective and time efficient than trying to do internal testing for days.

tl;dr – Not everything in this game revolves around the one aspect of the game you want to play. Get over yourself.

Also, the SAB is a reference to 8 bit gaming not Minecraft. You can’t ‘Mine" or ’Craft’ in the SAB

Big deal, whether its 4 or 3, while thieves have other methods of bursting then going into stealth immediately afterwards this doesn’t mean anything.

It’s amazing that thiefs get BUFFED. Just before the last patch, they announced that thiefs will get their DPS down to more normal levels.

But they chickend out and didn’t do the change, they just changed the timer from 3 to 4 and called that a nerf (lol).

Now, it’s back at 3 and thiefs are just as OP as before.

I really, really wondered what happened inbetween.

Did all the WvW DEVs got a 80 thief on their accounts with zerker gear or so? It’s amazing how they can keep one class so OP. Highest DPS and stealth at will.

What’s next, give them clones or so? Oh, wait…

Any chance of fixing aoes so they can’t go through the back of the lords room in the Bay keep. Why ‘fix’ the splash damage of catas through gates but not other forms?

The simplest answer is that they are not the same thing. It’s simpler to make changes to siege weapons than to player skills because there are more repercussions to player skill changes.

The largest problems I find with WvW right now are:

1.) Zergs: There’s just no reason to not zerg right now and no other form of play is really rewarded other than zerging. The way many classes are designed right now, they just don’t bring enough to a zerg to warrant bringing along. Thieves for example offer absolutely nothing to a zerg. Rangers only offer a water field. Warriors only bring hammers. Unless something is done to fix the zerging problem, people will end up abandoning these classes in favor of Mesmers, Eles, and Guardians much like we’ve seen going on for the past 3 months now.

2.) Nighttime Coverage: It’s very aggrivating to completely dominate your tier all day long, but still never manage to get anywhere because from the hours of 2am till noon your server loses every single point because of work/school. After the initial cap, if you’re not actively defending something (because no one is attacking) you really shouldn’t get the same number of points.

3.) AE: This has been discussed repeatedly on this forum and others. Many seem to want the cap removed, others want it just slightly increased, and others still want only harmful AE’s increased in cap while beneficial ones/boons are left alone. I fit in the last camp, but I’m very worried that any change to AE without first reviewing the AE offered by many classes will be disastrous because we already see many people rerolling away from Warriors, Thieves, and Rangers. A change to AE without first giving these classes respectable AE of their own will just increase the trend.

4.) Siege: Being able to siege surrounding structures while safely within another structure’s walls kind of defeats the whole purpose of attackers and defenders. Especially when defending siege can’t return fire back due to geometry and elevation. The whole point behind siege is to give defenders something to focus on instead of just sitting in the lord room waiting for the walls to come crumbling down. But the way things work right now, defenders are actually at a distinct disadvantage (which makes no sense whatsoever).

Any chance of fixing aoes so they can’t go through the back of the lords room in the Bay keep. Why ‘fix’ the splash damage of catas through gates but not other forms?

The simplest answer is that they are not the same thing. It’s simpler to make changes to siege weapons than to player skills because there are more repercussions to player skill changes.

Thanks for the answer, its just frustrating to siege it up only to be killed and have siege destroyed by exploiters.

So if NEW abilities are being added to wxp does that mean we can retrain any skills we might already have got? or was i foolish to spend the points? (as i was foolish enough to grind out rabid gear for my confusion mesmer?)

These balance changes are in no way the bulk of the WvW changes. There are numerous, WvW specific changes in bound.

Interesting, so that means we are able to trade prints this patch or has that been ignored again? Can we get movable siege as well or repackagable siege at least? ESO is going to have it, why can’t we?

Important Question:

When will ANet remove (or make it a toggable option) on Right Click targeting? It’s been almost since release that many people want something to be done about this highly annoying feature.

Maybe it will be introduced in this patch and it’s simply not listed here but it would be great if ANet changes this.

I really hope these arent just fluff additions like a trait line for Arrowcarts but some real changes that will affect the dynamic of WvW.

You really think something as big as changes that will “affect the dynamic of WvW” will be put into a patch without a single blog-post about it?

There wasnt a blog post about previous food nerfs but that changed a huge dynamic in WvW.

Just because something has X, doesn’t make X inherently beneficial. As it is, siege needs to be placed well and thoughtfully, one would say that this is a good thing. No one wants Zerg X to build an array of balista, catas, arrow carts, and then golems and slowly march their way to your keep. What are you going to do to fight that? Slowly march at them with your own armada of siege? (This undermines the entirety of the supply mechanic in the game, siege is fixed such that supply must be mindfully used and siege mindfully placed. Allow siege to move and you begin to undermine this balance.)

As for packaging, probably not a bad idea but most siege is placed and never meant to be moved or removed. The only siege I can even think of needing that ability are rams… but who the hell cares about rams? (Also, you open up a can of worms on trolling. Player Y tosses siege, players build it, and he then removes it… wasting everyone’s supply.)

There are very definitely WvW changes in bound. The release notes will be worth reading.

All the changes in WvW aint worth doodly squat if WvW is virtually unplayable due to skill lag. How about fixing that?

I’m sure if they could fix skill lag easily they already would have. You think they think its acceptable the amount of skill lag we have right now? I’m sure they realize it isn’t. Fixing it isn’t so simple.
