I think this is the masterplan how to close some servers. They will just try to force players non violently to move to stacked servers. Then they will be able to justify closing of at least 50% of all servers.

For 1st place you should be able to get at least one Ascended weapon, not an exotic, and have tickets left over to get something else, then they could have scaled down the rewards using that as a starting place.
The rewards are disproportionately bad considering that (1) It is a tournament, and (2) How long the tournament was.
In contrast The Tournament of Legends prizes were (for 2 days gameplay):
*1st place: Choice of Legendary (Eternity excluded), 2,000 gems, 2 Black Lion Weapon Tickets
*2nd place: Choice of Gift of Mastery or Fortune, Choice of Precursor, 800 gems, Black Lion Weapon Ticket
*3rd and 4th place: Choice of Gift of Mastery or Fortune, Black Lion Weapon Ticket
*5th through 8th place: Choice of Gift of Magic or Might, Black Lion Weapon Ticket
Maybe Anet thought it had to limit the rewards because of the number of people playing WvW is much more. But why limit it to such an extent.
I’m not suggesting giving the same rewards as the sPVP tournament, but an ascended weapon would have been more appropriate for WvW (top places), exotic for lower (rare for even lower) placement, a permanent finisher (rather than a limited one), seriously who needs more ascended mats, while they could have a least have increased the number of obsidian shards for a ticket purchase. This was my first tournament, but I don’t think I’ll bother with it again if it has the same format.
I am with others here, could give us 1 ascended weapons for 9 weeks worth of tournament?
They should simply not give any tournament specific rewards at all.
That would solve all of these issues.
People wouldn’t stack due to no difference in rewards based on placement.
People wouldn’t swarm into WvW without having a clue.
People wouldn’t complain about how the rewards are wrong.

Mistforged Hero’s weapons can either be purchased directly for tournament tickets or crafted in the Mystic Forge with:
- 1 Hero’s Weapon (100 tournament tickets)
- 1 Gift of Heroes (200 tournament tickets)
- 4 Bottles of Elonian Wine
- 10 Piles of Crystalline Dust
To clarify, we had planned for the cost of Gift of Heroes to be a combination of tickets and badges, but the item will now only cost tickets. Tournament tickets will not expire.
Do we unlock the regular skin when we buy the mistforged?

The large issue is, for a large portion, they only needed 2-5 days of work and they did not spend all 9 weeks on it. While I know it was 9 weeks of grind for me, I know it wasn’t this way for many. I would of loved say a weekly achievement that would of given a few more tickets per how your server did that week. 15 for first, 10 for 2nd and 5 for 3rd only if you did work that week.

I was going to be devil’s advocate but you hit it right here. I was done with the meta in a few days. Did I go back to WvW? Every week. Anet cannot scale the rewards any more than Finish the Meta and help your server win. F

The rewards show a fundamental lack of understanding by Arenanet on why people choose to stack, instead of rewarding spreading out, you get rewarded more for stacking. Even if you never spend a day on TC, JQ or BG you still get rewarded more than spending your time on SoR fighting because you can easily just do your stuff in EoTM then spend a night in BG and you will get rewarded more than someone that spend all 8 weeks in SoR.
This is just colossal failure on Arenanet’s part and goes to show why WvW in Na/EU will never amount to anything.
The best thing to do is to remove all differences in rewards due to standing (same basic reward for completing Meta) and require a certain amount of time to be spent in WvW (for an extra set of reward + basic reward) if you spend 40+hours on your server. This will be designed to completely screw over people that choose to stack, while rewarding players on smaller servers. Then the winners can get something special for winning, but it cannot be better than the first two types of rewards.

Instead of time you get participation points, different from WvW xp, you get them from doing things like capping, killing players and dying to player anything WvW related. These will be invisible to the player and can only be gotten on your WvW server (no EoTM) and they are only calculated at the end of the tournament and the rewards will be depended on the average or median of the server players, so if you are higher you get better rewards. Obviously to prevent players from intentionally tanking their averages, the has to be a minimum threshold for the average and the more time you spend in WvW participating the better the rewards you get (personal participation >> Server median). This also allows servers with less population not get punished because they constantly fought a bigger and stronger servers. The rewards for participation will be significantly better than from completely the meta event. So for example, you can have potentially 3 rewards: Meta completion (EotM)+ position reward (just a slightly better meta completion reward)+Participation reward (better than the meta and has ascended gear and materials).
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

You will get at least a Heros weapon, however, since the start it was implied that the use of the gift of heros was not to be able to upgrade all your hero weapons in one season but to allow you to upgrade ones you already have from previous seasons. Yes it was presented very badly on the post/wiki, but I think we all knew that was not what they were planning for it. It would of made little sence.

Now you only need to spend the (same amount) of tickets.
So technically the rewards themselves have only changed in a way that makes them EASIER to obtain.

If this was the case, it would make so little sence for them to sell the mist forged weapons for 300 tx. No real WvW player is short tokens other than those buying gear sets for there alts or seige for commanders.

Well, that would go well with “inviting people to play WvW more” theme. Those who have played for a while would have enough badges to do it outright, and those who just started being involved in WvW would have an option to just use the tickets, or play more outside of the tournament to get more badges and upgrade weapons to fancier kind
Versus “you can only get one upgraded weapon after grinding for two seasons”, which is really not exciting, given how uneven populations are.

Just makes me sick you put that much effort in to the server but just because you aren’t loaded with people, and a mindless blob 24/7 you can’t get the mist forged weapons till the next season.
‘’Arena Net doesn’t like penalizing players’’ so just because i’m on a less packed server i should get less rewards even when i put good effort in my server?
I mean sure Maybe higher ranked server’s in the season should get some better reward for placing better but this seems rather harsh, give them extra Tomes of Knowledge, Clovers, Champion loot boxes or anything in that direction.
To me it just seems like a big penalty and really going against what Arena net said they

This current design just validates why so many people jumped servers. these tournament shouldn’t be about gaming better rewards but actually fighting for the servers design. don’t disregard those that bother to stay with their servers even if they might be mid to low tiers.

Um.. to get even more reward? It’s a difference between winners getting 5+ weapons and losing servers getting 1 or 2, versus having to wait several more months, and then grind the whole achievement thing again to get one. (presuming that current skins would not be upgraded to newer other skins)

I genuine don’t care about the weapon skin, but the above is just the right thing to do. I’m in an almost empty server wvwwise, and I can tell that all the players whom I witnessed fighting really hard, despite having inferior numbers almost all the time, deserve a nice reward. Especially SoR guys. I know that if I were in those guys shoes, I would never ever set foot on WvW this season.

What is winning exactly? Being on a server that has 2-3 times the coverage of others?
Night capping? Server stacking?
Winning would mean something if the tournament was fair.
It is not.
By rewarding unfairness ArenaNet is actually telling us to move to bigger servers. Therefore creating even more imbalance.
I am on Fort Ranik. Because of this season our WvW guilds have decided to move to bigger servers, just so that they can have a fighting chance. For those staying (like me), this means our WvW maps will be almost empty.

I’d like to support this, as someone on a Top Server (500 tickets), i feel like everyone should be able to get at least one Mistforged Weapon, the current way this was planned is pretty bad, we go back to the same problem as in PvP, if i want to make a legendary weapon there’s no way i’m gonna play sPvP at all, because the rewards (which are better than nothing) and still pretty terrible, so once again i feel forced to do something because there’s no way i can farm doing what i like to get to my goal, unless i want to spend a year(s) of my life to get a single virtual item, no.
I could be more patient, until we come to the part i’m forced to do something else if i have a goal set such a legend, so i get frustrated and this is not appealing, i feel like GW2 has turned into something that forces us to do X over and over while Y and Z were put to the side.
Same thing happens with these decisions, people on low rank servers are already frustrated by getting conquered by others and there’s not much they can do, so they are thrown deeper into the abyss because they can’t even get one single Weapon Mistforged weapon, there’s already the frustration of losing and then Anet gives them potatoes to make them more frustrated, i don’t know, but i’m pretty sure a lot of people won’t be pleased with this.
ANet you wanted people not to abuse WvW by moving around the servers, so you introduced rewards that only better servers can actually get them, what does this mean? Yes, people will move around again, same thing all over again.
I don’t know anymore what to think, but i’m pretty sure a lot of people aren’t pleased at all with the lack of communication from Anet and the lack of fixing issues that are still here since day 1, which i don’t think we need to beat a dead horse all over again, but think about how much frustration you give those poor people on low rank servers, there’s this new popular MMO that people have been talking about, i’m pretty sure a lot will move over, and this is a really bad thing, i love this game, as much as i loved GW1, but GW2 lacks so much and you keep frustrating people, this isn’t appealing to make people keep playing at all.
The idea of making the Gift of Heroes cost 100 Tickets seems a great idea, or you can give everyone a Mistforged weapon of their choice on June 3rd and also the tickets.
Sorry for the long post, and somewhat rant, but if there’s rant it means people are frustrated, please think about this, thank you for your time.
Anet, the current system for the Season 2 rewards is fine. Please do not make changes unless there are bugs that need to be fixed.

You can’t make random assumptions and then complain when they’re wrong.
My struggle is that as a “reward” for finally breaking into gold right before the tournament, we on Dragonbrand got ZERO mistforged weapons instead of 2.
Until today, I was under the understanding that the gift could be purchased with badges of honor. Obviously, I should have done my research better. But c’mon. We break into gold and you tease us with 275 (short only 25!) tickets.
Low blow. I’m pretty disappointed.
So we busted butt, got into gold tier, yay! I know for a fact that a lot of us busted our rear ends trying to defeat servers with a larger regular WvW community, and we came in sixth. But we were still in gold tier, and we get shafted. Gee, makes me think that maybe we shoulda just stayed out of WvW. So who was it that decided that the cut off was before silver tier, leaving a server in gold out in the cold? If we were in silver tier, I would still be disappointed, but not completely flabbergasted.
And I can guarantee that we will lose more people that WvW regularly so then we can look forward to being face-rolled as time goes on. I’m thinking maybe there should be just WvW servers, or maybe a different set up because there is a royal stink to only the servers with the higher population to get any kind of “real” prize.

Dear Anet,
Everyone has fought this whole wvw league season 2. And we expect, by putting our time and courage in fighting in wvw, to get some good rewards. But i really don’t see why we can’t purchase Gift of Heroes anymore with badges of honor, only with tokens. The people who have fought and are on 6th place or lower should deserve at least a Mistforged skin. And the one’s who are between the 1st and 5th place should deserve 2 or 3/5 Mistforged hero skins, because we fight in high populated servers and it is always hard to fight against bigger zergs, even blobs… All our time and effort for just one Mistforged Hero Weapon, that would make everyone just angry….
We are a community that loves this game, but if you don’t give a Mistforged Hero weapon to the ones who are placed 6th or lower, there’s something wrong. We all are equal people and everyone should have at least one Mistforged Hero Weapon. By giving a Mistforged Hero Weapon to the ones who are ranked between 1st and 5th place, would lead to jealous and angry people who are placed 6th and 9th while they did an effort too in the league. Stand up for equality please…

Yes…. who made the business decision to cut the last place team in gold out of a nice reward? I understand if silver and bronze don’t make the cut. But every server in gold but last place just don’t make any common sense.

I would like to tell my story.
I LOVE Guild Wars 2 community very much and i like socializing with people. Once upon a time, i started playing on Seafarer’s Rest, when it was 14th, i had cool guild there and so on. But i made a 6 months break from GW2 and when i returned, ppl in guild changed and i was no more interested in it.
Month later, I met one cool girl ahd she invited me into her gi. Ppl there was AWESOME, so I havent payed attention, that they are playing on different serv, I thought i will join them later, when would be Discount to tranfers or smth else like that, but decided to do when WvW S2 will end.
Now, i’m rewarded “well” with tokens+3 greens(!), but even in worst case i can buy mistforged weap. They fought rly hard, not like slacker like me who was LUCKY to be on best server. And according to these posts, they will be able to BUY 1 (!) Mistforged weap skin NEXT YEAR !!! They Deserve it much more than me and they wont get it. Fair? To earn skin (reward)whole guild need just to transfer to the best server with no real fight? Fair, fair. It’s pretty expensive for new ppl to flip 140g into 1400 gems, and 20$ i would like to spend on skins or smth else, rhather just change server.
Dear ANet, please be fair to thise guys, who were not that lucky to be on server with best guilds who could carry them to the top raiting.

I play from the start of gw2 and will say tendention of Items Design in every MMO
First several months the most cool looking armor was from dungeons. Most cool weaps (except legendaries) were crafted in mystic forge. Example: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jormag%27s_Needle The most cool dagger at the start of the game except legendary. Then came up Corrupted weapons, much cooler. When living story started ANet started to add new weapon sets like Fused, Sclerite, Zodiac, Aetherized. Do u get the idea? Dreamthistle, Tormented. Look at AWESOME phoenix skins! Each content is better than preveous.
Now let’s analyze Mistforged One handed sword for example.

Pros: it has unique white glowing effect. It’s the 2nd Scimitar in the game after Ceremoneal.
Cons: it’s Really fat for the sword. It looks like plastic is some cases.

Now, let’s think guys. Some people, who wants to create unique style will still remain, and will want these weapons even next year. But for majority- it’s insufficiently small reward.
ANet, please, understand those guys, who are trye fans of your game and grant them reward that they deserve. Except buying Mistforged at once, ppl should have possibility to get skins in more expensive way, but not more difficult. Buying Mistforged at once, or spending additional gold, materials etc.; that should be choice to players.

Is gift of hero’s obtained any other way?
After month’s of getting zerged and 1/1 n 1/2 etc constantly met with running back to blob for 1v50. Many people in zergtrain severs placing 5+ will get awarded for their efforts while any server placing below 6th gets sub-par skin. DB fought hard to get into gold league now were left with 275 tickets despite lots of dedicated players and been outnumbered.
Reward then been 25 tickets short of a mistforged skin is unfair to many players and encourages last minute server hopping.
Please make the gift available in other ways such as gold/badges, and then the base hero skin worth 200 tickets (and gift 100). This way everyone can get the skin, for another 100 tickets they save forging/badge/gold costs and all players get chance at mistforged. The other option would be awarding 50-100 tickets on meta completion this season, then people can put in afew days effort for appropriate reward.
Waiting another 18 weeks for a single skin is a great way to make affected playerbase go wild…star

Mistforged Hero’s weapons can either be purchased directly for tournament tickets or crafted in the Mystic Forge with:
- 1 Hero’s Weapon (100 tournament tickets)
- 1 Gift of Heroes (200 tournament tickets)
- 4 Bottles of Elonian Wine
- 10 Piles of Crystalline Dust
To clarify, we had planned for the cost of Gift of Heroes to be a combination of tickets and badges, but the item will now only cost tickets. Tournament tickets will not expire.
So I’m completely and utterly confused then.
Why would you buy a Gift of Heroes. Ever. Why not just save the tickets and buy a mistforged weapon next tournament?

Because someone that didn’t get enough tickets for the complete weapon might want to get the lower-end weapon this tournament to at least get something, instead of having to wait for six months (or whenever the next tournament ends) in order to get something?
The system was not added to save tickets, the system was added to allow people to get rewards and later on upgrade them, rather than not getting any rewards at all.

What is winning exactly? Being on a server that has 2-3 times the coverage of others?
Night capping? Server stacking?Winning would mean something if the tournament was fair.
It is not.By rewarding unfairness ArenaNet is actually telling us to move to bigger servers. Therefore creating even more imbalance.
I am on Fort Ranik. Because of this season our WvW guilds have decided to move to bigger servers, just so that they can have a fighting chance. For those staying (like me), this means our WvW maps will be almost empty.
So yeah, good job Anet.
I’ve seen guilds over here do ‘the march of the titans’. 1 omega, 6 alphas – fail, drop 4 more guild catapults, still fail, and rebuild another omega to finish the job, to survive defensive siege including arrow carts, catapults and supply-draining cows and a defender population twice the size of the attackers.
Another case where to defend our keep in EBG, we had 3 men – all guild leaders, all WvW commanders, jump into a 30+ men zerg at our inner gates, die, run back from WP, jump in, die again, repeatedly until the entire zerg was destroyed. Even with killing 10+ players between 3 men per attempt, they have so many that multiple respawns are still necessary. No defensive siege was even possible as all supply camps on all worlds, all towers and all keeps were taken by their zergs on the other worlds. The rest of the members of our guilds all gave up for the night on seeing the score imbalance. I’m told we lost the keep anyway, 3 hours later, when I was rushing the EoTM Reactor achievement.
All this expense just to take back a keep on our own borderlands away from another world that has way more people around the clock than us.
… the other world simply had to have a 40+ man zerg on all borderlands and ebg nonstop.
The skilled are not going to stay in underdog worlds forever. Most have already hopped to the top worlds per tier to take the rewards there, making winning against the worlds a case of winning against superior odds AND superior players now. Our world lost a great deal to TC at the start of the first tournament half a year ago, one of the major guilds here jumped ship en masse to HoD at the start of this tournament. Our world’s bleeding people like nobody’s business, and we’re not even at the bottom – it’s not hard to imagine what the people in SoR and ET are feeling right now.
While this still isn’t half as bad as the previous tournament where those who didn’t place first got NOTHING at all, at this point there is no reason for a lot of WvW players to stop playing WvW entirely and just farm EoTM for the ranks instead. It’s way more profitable, does not involve dropping hundreds of gold in superior blueprints and golems, and is far more fun than taking down odds 5 times greater than yours, but losing your keep anyway.
What’s going to be left next season? If not enough people remain, we won’t be defending keeps. We’ll be circle capping camps the whole tournament.
