I’m still seeing over half my characters’ HP lost in single shots from thieves and some warriors. It doesn’t matter if I load on toughness, or not. I really can’t believe WvW was designed to be this bad on purpose?

It’s called min/maxing . If a thief traits for ALL OUT OFFENSE then he will get incredible offensive abilities. Outside of stealth however, his defensive capabilities will be abysmal.

If a warrior traits for ALL OUT OFFENSE then he will get incredible offensive abilities including a massive amount of stuns. However, he doesn’t need anything defensive. He only needs Signet of Healing.

So what have we learned here? Roll a warrior and you too can do the the maxing without the minimizing!

Guardian and Ele shoud be put up in hard mode since they have to deal with the most bs of the meta. Necro whould be moved down to easy mode, and Engi to normal mode. Ranger is like in-between normal and hard.

Thieves commonly Backstab for roughly 6000-7000 in WvW if built for it.

Guardian’s explosive shield thing can burst for similar damage.

Warrior 100-Blades also hits for upwards of 7000 if all swings hit. Kill shot can hit for twice that damage (but everybody uses Longbow currently).

Elementalists, through a number of proccs, can burst you down with over 12000 damage in 2 seconds.

Necromancer dumbfire builds can take off 60% or more of your HP with the single press of a button.

A well timed Mesmer burst with Shatter and Blurred Frenzy can deal over 10.000 damage.

Engineers have some insane burst, albeit I don’t know much about them.

The only class that doesn’t seem to have the ability for insane burst is the Ranger. At least I don’t know any Ranger burst builds. On the other hand they have builds that allow them to win by simply spamming auto-shot.

TL;DR – Almost every class has the ability for insane burst damage mirroring that of Thieves and Warriors. It’s just that those builds are less popular because they come at the expense of survivability.

Thieves have a certain base-line survivability thanks to stealth and Warriors….well Warriors don’t have to make trade-offs for some reason. They get to be good at everything.

And all that firepower won’t prevent you from going down before you can even use it in WvWvW. Low vitality means you are target practice for condition spammers, low toughness (armor) means two-three melee/ranged hits are enough to kill you. Healing Signet won’t help you much because if you spec for power you’ll also be missing vital traits like Adrenal Health and stuff that actually keeps your adrenaline high enough for it to work. Going zerk leaves you with low Healing Power which means Healing Signet will probably only heal for its base Healing which is around 400 vitality/s. That’s 4000 vitality per 10 seconds during which you are more than likely to get hit once-twice and that’s all that is required to nullify the Healing Signet completely. And if you activate the signet you loose all passive benefits for a pretty low healing which means until the cooldown has run out you have to find a good way to keep conditions off you. That actually sounds a lot easier than it is because if you specced for zerk you will probably also miss the warhorn condition removal, Cleansing Ire (which then again requires adrenaline and a way to spend it without a blocking condition like blind when you do it) etc.

Healing Signet has received a lot of hate lately but the truth is it only made warrior a viable profession in sPvP by offering at least some fair chance against condition spammers which were literally burning down warriors. In WvWvW I can’t think of a good reason to use it unless you are a solo roamer which expects only to run in 1 vs 1 situations, which is not going to happen a lot.

that’s the difference between pvp and pve builds….pve builds more on balance and defense – pvp builds more on offense – so you will see more spikes from a pvp character – usually at the expense of defense so IF you stay alive long enough – you may have been able to drop him quickly also – providing you set your stats offensively. This is why there is more personal skill involved – because you have to dodge and kite more and not stand there in a “who has better equipment” face off.

things just don’t die in pvp – they melt!!

as a side note – I’ve noticed the opposite can be true also, if you give up a lot of offense and really bump up your defense – it’s an inverse pvp strategy as well – for example…you give up power and trade it in for condition damage – which is usually connected to health or toughness – condition damage ignores armor and now you are hard to spike vs melee characters and you just bleed/burn/poison them to death quickly.

this build courtesy of all the new pve builds that surfaced in wvw – I have a physical spike damage build – and some of you are built to withstand major dungeon damage. – but you hit like a kitten, minus all the insane condition damage #@#$

actually, it is you that has no idea what I’m talking about – being from an all warrior blob server

in smaller fights you actually have to think. you guys would be so wrecked vs the smaller thinking servers that replace blobs with strategy if we got your numbers. We don’t just say duh and hit empty doors like the t1’rs with skill lag do. Your skill lag wouldn’t even let you do such things. the lower tier servers had to actually learn how to fight to stand a chance of even playing wvw with the outnumbered buff. Something t1’s have zero experience in.

You’re assuming that T1 servers don’t have pure roaming guilds. Roaming/havoc/zerg busting in T1 is much harder than it is on bronze tier since the entire WvW map is covered with people that are doing the same. I assume you’ve never played T1 if you’re talking about skill lag auto attack pvdoor.

And… It’s the truth – we’ve seen the pictures of 20 people on ruins in T1 servers- and most of the guilds that transferred up – trained in bronze servers – they left before they could learn courage. And I’m just tired of them talking like they are kings…..the bronze servers are what gave them any little strategy they have.

Much respect and love to bronze server players – yall have more game than t1 will ever know! Yall Never Quit no matter what the odds are!!

Looks like we all forgot the days where warrior was a free kill for you know the first 10 months of the game. You know the days where it was so universally accepted that the warrior was an utter dead weight and only good in CoF p1 gold runs and utter trash in PvP. The days where 1 trap ranger will utterly destroy 3 warriors on this own and ranger pet can 1v1 a warrior and come out on top.

Signet of healing heals 400 hp/ sec, it’s affected by healing power but the amount is so pathetic that’s not even worth thinking about.

Against a heavy offensive warrior, any offensive build of any class can easily burst them for 5-10k/ sec, which make the regen laughable, straight heal is much better for glass warrior

In short, I can’t see where u get that conclusion from.

I don’t think you’re doing it right.

while I can’t speak for all characters, I can speak with great confidence for a mesmer.
They have horrible speed buffs, and horrible armor – any defensive boons last 3.5 seconds or less and can’t be spammed – Someone tried to teach me speed running – and it hit me …..very very hard ….i kept dying repeatedly and realized I’d have to completely rebuild my zerg spike build, which i plan to make much more powerful.

this game is a trainwreck when it comes to balance in every sense of the word from pve to pvp to different classes. Someone who was part of gw1 wasn’t part of gw2 – it’s painfully obvious – literally.

the very idea that i should have a cookie cutter build that works in every part of the game doesn’t mean I’m not doing it right, it means anet isn’t doing it right – because I can’t play how I want – which is to have one specialilzed build for pvp /wvw and another for pve. There is no argument vs this.

I agree with most of your post but even the Ranger has an impressive burst when built for it. It isn’t really WvW practical but with the right signets and traits they can dish out high 5 figure numbers with one attack against a medium toughness player.

At this point in WvW, virtually no class has a build without a crazy amount of burst in it. That said, dropping a seasoned player in an opening salvo is very rare. When it does happen they are usually zerg built, wounded, up leveled or glassy.

It’s easy to label a T1 server a total blobfest I guess. You’re wrong about it of course, but something tells me there’s no convincing you of that. There’s a good amount of small-man groups actually.

For myself, out of my 3k+ hours played, 90% of that is in W3, and 95% of that is small-man. I hate blobs…but they are necessary in T1. You shouldn’t assume T1 are a bunch of mindless robots. :/

I’ve played on higher tier servers, I saw the difference clearly – and it’s simply a different style of play. You need more strategy in lower tier servers to compensate for the lack of manpower. You need more courage and character to be outmanned and still claim all your stuff back – and even though we are facing balanced fights ….we are constantly getting 2v1’d in our own leagues. why ? because when they don’t , we take their stuff. And I’m not even being specific about my server – when a 3rd server is losing because they haven’t enough players, they fight for 2nd leaving 1st and 3rd attacking the server in the middle. The first server is trying to keep 2nd place server from grabbing first, the 3rd server is working with first server to avoid getting smashed by 1 and 2 , and the 2nd server is fighting everyone trying to get points to take 1st.

Actually, the 2v1 thing is standard practice in T1 right now. And it switches partners every time you get up to grab another beer. Before this Achievement fiasco we were outmanned on a daily basis at certain times. Small-man guilds like mine had to sometimes manage an entire BL on their own, we’re no stranger to strategy. As for your courage comment…that might be the most asinine and insulting comment I’ve heard in awhile on here.

Much more decision making and compromising. a group of 40 can defend a keep vs a 100 man zerg- but when your map has a population of 50 …..and they have to constantly travel back and forth to empty borders – it changes the strategy. There is a difference …a big one. Lower tier servers have to hit harder, move faster and make more compromises because we don’t have enough people to watch our backs. this is also with a pug style population too – so it’s not like we have 50 man guilds working tightly in unison – so on that aspect alone – we have more of a rule of thumb approach as a server

Much more decision making and compromising. a group of 40 can defend a keep vs a 100 man zerg- but when your map has a population of 50 …..and they have to constantly travel back and forth to empty borders – it changes the strategy. There is a difference …a big one. Lower tier servers have to hit harder, move faster and make more compromises because we don’t have enough people to watch our backs. this is also with a pug style population too – so it’s not like we have 50 man guilds working tightly in unison – so on that aspect alone – we have more of a rule of thumb approach as a server

True, it makes you different…not necessarily better.

I can do that too: T1 servers have to work harder and are more courageous because of the sheer number of players we have to deal with. We don’t have the luxury of an empty BL to run through without worry of being steamrolled out of nowhere.

it makes us better because it’s easy to rage quit and want to transfer to a t1 like most bandwagon guilds that can’t take the heat. It’s very discouraging to get overwhelmed to a point that you can’t raise up the numbers to fight back….it takes courage to fight back anyway ….and even win sometimes.

win or lose, Our glory is much sweeter and t1 losses are more bitter – because you had the numbers.

It’s very discouraging to get overwhelmed to a point that you can’t raise up the numbers to fight back….it takes courage to fight back anyway ….and even win sometimes.

We deal with that on a daily basis too. You’re talking about simple ratios, with that in mind 10v20 is the same as 50v100. The gameplay is different, but the guts to persevere is the same.

yeah, lucky for you there’s no where else for your bandwagon guilds to go when you lose. This may sound sarcastic, but that hurts a server to a point that it’s boiled down to the hardest players. t1 has a lot of fluff. It’s one reason our server is friendly, the whiners, cheaters and complainers left.

and don’t get me wrong – I do have respect for the t1 core members they are great strategists and I give them that, I learned about wvw from them before bandwagoning became a big trend – I was lucky enough to see ‘them’ at work …but the fact that the guilds that abandoned their original servers to join the winners makes up most of your audiences – tarnishes your image.

I can’t speak for other servers, but the bandwagoners do not make up most of our population. They are there, of course, but not in the majority.

unfortunately, 95.353200% of statistics are made up on the spot. you could actually be great pvp’rs – but it’s been a while since you went head to head with hard core players – less the fluff. my condolences to your bragging rights.
