Corvins-Guardian lvl 80
5man WvW groups
My personal opinion I like having an engineer(me) Mesmer and or their are always very helpful, an elementalist, honestly and I’ll prob get heat for this but I’d love a ranger for the healing spring…but really any class can do well as long as you have good precision and quick tactical strikes

5 Elementalists are giving a good Team ;P
5 thieves and you will never be overrun by a noob zerg.

I do alot of 3-6 man, our best 5man is probably Guardian, 2 Thieves, Engineer, Mesmer and sometimes an elementalist mixed in, engi tanks, mesmer confusion/utility, rest of us aoe. I make vids that may help you get some ideas, my 2 most recent:

2 thieves and ele – cluster bomb is the easiest to use and strongest blast finisher. Rolling with 25 might stacks at the drop of a hat is a big deal, also shadow refuge is possibly the strongest tool in a 5 man for finishing, resurrecting, escaping, and sneaking into a fight. The same blast finisher abuse is very strong on water fields and ethereal fields.
Those 3 are the only absolutes in my opinion. Other good classes to throw in are hammer shout warriors, shatter mesmers, any guardian. I don’t have a high opinion of engi’s/rangers and I’ve played every profession pretty extensively, but I’m sure some people will quote me saying I’m wrong.
For 5-man setup, its almost like a commando outfit. You launch stealth attack and you don’t engage in any direct confrontation. You have to run when detected. And you have to run FAST.
So a good setup would involved professions who can buff swiftness boons which allows you to sprint out of enemy’s harm. Coordinate among the members so that you can chain spam swiftness boons when a previous boon expired. Thief which can offer the group stealth boon would also be a welcome addition to the setup.
Focus on profession which offer survive skill than dps/fighting skill. Always remember, you are not going to fight in direct confrontation unless it is 5 against 1.

Depends entirely on the goal of your 5man. We’re in the lower tier which will likely make a difference, but majority of what we do is direct confrontation ^^.

My guild have been running 5-10 man runs sens game lanch close to every night. we runn thief guardian and mesmer heavy with a mix of warriors, necros and rangers on the other spot.
Its extremly effective as you behind enemy lines pull heat of the main zerg, cap camps and killing enemy resource runs.
Here is a vid of our 10 man teams romaing, we had just taken the camps in the north and did run into this spannish team who had a treb our server needed to take down.

My guild usually runs
2x Thief
1x Warrior
1x Guardian
1x Mesmer / Elementalist / Ranger depending on who’s on.
The bedrock is the ability to choose our fights, and a class (or two) that can provide group Swiftness / Fury are simply a must.

Especially when your group gets coordinated to the point that you can do “Sync-Stabs”.
Watching 5 people drop to downed simultaneously will never get old. NEVER.
