I would like to know why Anet has decided to make the leagues last 7 weeks.
It makes it pretty complicated to try and arrange a fair matchup schedule.

In any decent league i know it is usually the meaning to make every player face opponents the same number of times.
That way at the end a balance can be made up to show who really is the best without having any major random factors that can influence it.

With 7 weeks it means each server will fight 14 opponents over the course of the season.
But every league except US gold has 9 servers in it, meaning each server has 8 unique opponents. With the 7 weeks schedule the best possible distribution of matchups would make each server face 6 servers 2 times and 2 servers 1 time.
What if server A faces the top 2 league servers as those one time opponents, and server B faces 2 bottom ranged servers as one time opponents.
Discussion would arise that server B had a harder schedule than server A, making it unfair for server B.

With 8 weeks each server could face their opponents exactly 2 times.
There would be no discussion that one server had it easier than the other.
And in the end the points can tell you who is the winner.

Even number matches have the chance of a tie in final placement.

Server A and Server B meet one time.
Server A wins and B is second.
Server A gets second in another match but wins the rest.
Server B wins the rest of his matches.
Both end up with 33 points.

Whoever won the head to head is probably how they decide wins in that scenario.

if it was me i would save the final week match to put any tied servers head to head for the first time to duke it out for 1st.

Ties doesn’t matter, they can eventually settle it with total points or with their ELO (forgot what it’s called).

Win margin, while factoring in the 3rd opponents score as well.

IE. Server A got 50% of total points for match 1. (A 200, B 150, C 50)
Server B got 35% of total match points for match 2 (A 136, B 140, C 120)

C aside, in the first match A got 57% of the points gained between A and B (200/[200+150])

in the Second match A got 49% of the points gained between the two.

Ultimately I’d imagine in such a case A would be declared the winner, since they won by a much larger margin than they lost. (glicko2 may also play a roll here)

i think wins should be more important than points.

This reminds me of a topic regarding sports I have had from time to time. In some sports there is a minor premiership and a major premiership. The minor premiership is decided by the total points at the end of a season. The major premiership is decided by finals and subsequently grand final between the top two teams. For sports coaches, fans and teams I feel as though there is too much emphasis on the major premiership. As someone who has been a coach, Id rather my team went out and won the minor premiership rather than the major premiership, because to get the minor premiership you have to go out there every week and perform at your best. The same could be said here. Even though there is no “grand final”, there is going to be one or two deciding matchups during the season that will be comparative to a grand final.
