A Day Off
I’m not a fan of “Last Stand,” and the drama and QQ that will come with it. And the drama WILL happen. And we’ll be back here on the forums trying to reverse it.
But I’m not a fan of a day off either, lol. I’d be okay with some kind of one day thing, on rotation, like one week golem rush, or no contest swords, etc., like some previous special “weeks” we’ve had (although limiting those to one day, or one weekend would have been better to begin with).

All are welcome!
Actually like this idea. Everyone needs a break etc. Or small events could also work a similar purpose.
Can just imagine a day of everyone walking around as different colored quaggans wailing at doors. Well, leave OS out of it, so people can have fight night that day
“Understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth.”
“The objective is to win. The goal is to have fun.”
So like a Golem event once a week?
(if anyone else remembers that)
….. And Elementalist.
I’m ok with that idea.
Same MU but just freeze the score.
Maybe add some event, but I remember the golem week who was a big nightmare….
Here the Dev’s are thinking of this “Last Stand” mechanic. But, do we really need a mechanic added that encourages players to call in sick on Fridays? WvW has consistently lost players due to such burn out. What we really need is a Day Off! We probably should have had a “Day Off” added in two years ago. Turn matches into 6 days per week. Leaving the maps open and running the last day for carefree fun. Toss Golems in there, those exalted armors, the EotM transforms, make the entire day on huge “Snowball Mayhem” or “Dragon Bash” map, or whatever other craziness we can dream up. THAT would be far better than a “Last Stand” mechanic.
if people are calling in sick to play a game, those people have bigger issues……
Edit: People can take AS MANY days off as they want presently. Your world wont change whether you win or lose a wvw match…..

I agree, Last stand is a REALLY BAD idea. Players should be encouraged to play throughout the week spread out the play time, and play up to the last minute if they choose, not just make certain times or days more valuable than others which only results in players trying to only play during the most valuable time zones and then abandoning the others. It starts the whole:
" Why bother playing then because I can do more in this other time /day?"
Then adding to the whole:
" Why bother playing if my time is not as valuable as others, I might as well go play something else instead?" mindset as well.
Things like this are not really good for anyone in the end when it causes more problems rather than increasing the enjoyment of the game throughout the week instead.
Though I ALSO think “A DAY OFF”i s not good either, since that may be the only day that certain players can play and then you just took their entire WvW experience away from them. Players all deserve the same opportunity to be able to come on and play WvW on their day of, even if their only day off is a Monday, or a Wed or whenever their odd day off from work is when they get a chance. You are essentially taking the ability to play WvW at all from some players, and that is pretty messed up to do.
No matter what day you pick, that is going to be someone’s day off from work" to play WvW somewhere." You should consider there are many people who have weird days off, Hospitals, Restaurants, Pubs, Clubs, Resorts, Hotels and Casinos, Police, Military, Scientists, and Hairdressers ALL have far from normal schedules just to name a few.
One of my guilds is almost entirely Military and they play at the oddest days and times imaginable due to where they get stationed and when they are even allowed to access the internet. That is something they should consider when trying to do this " this time and day are more important/ less important than others" ideas because there are always people who are affected by this that should not have that imposed upon them. They are going to punish people for being in the military from being able to play with their friends and family here? That is a terrible thing to do tbh.

The reason so many people hated golem week was because it was for the whole week and affected scores. The OP is suggesting it be one out of the 7 days of a match up and not affect scores.
I think it would be nice if we had a day like that once a week, just a blow off steam week where it doesn’t affect the match up and people can have a bit of fun. Imagine if your weapon skills became snowballs and you had to build giant snowmen to bust open stuff…

If that is a players only chance to play since they work 6 days a week, you just took all of WvW away from them and all they get in return is a snowball day when they had been looking forward to playing some competitive WvW on their only day off as they have been for the last 3 years? :S
People have to look at the whole picture of how this affects the very many different players that play, not just the “Oh hey that might be cool” aspect.

No thanks.
It’s gimmicky and also may take away someone’s ONLY DAY to play the game where they wish to dig into some nice WvW….. on a DAY OFF day.
That’s a complete kick in the nuts to that person or ANYONE in that situation.
Anyone remember GOLEM WEEK? Yeah, no thanks. Not again, not ever.

Well yeah and anet shouldn’t pander to them as this will. But then anet have been pandering to those with OCD issues ever since they discovered that casual players won;t sustain the game.
BTW hope you tell DK that.

I remember the old days when SoR/BG/JQ would spend our last day just karma training one of the maps in a perfect circle. It was always a nice way to end the week.

Yeah that was great and it happened when TC replaced SOR as well. Of course YB, as they are wont to do, spoiled that party. YC couldn’t have a mutual K train oh no, it was only OK for them to k train on their terms.

It’s a dangerous habit to get your player community into. Quitting playing in earnest because there’s no chance of winning leads to things like push weeks and kill trading. EoTM exists, keep WvW pure.

I go by the largest populations always. You can’t design around outliers and exotic situations. If the 24 hours before reset is a players only time to play, then it’s likely that player has never played whatever is being define as “competitive WvW” to miss it. Besides, how about looking at this as half glass full? It may in fact be more fun than what “competitive WvW” is on Friday. Players participation may in fact increase on said day. There’s always EotM for the regular WvW environment. Or, keep the event to the borderlands only and leave EB as is.
I look at it as a day off is healthy. A day off filled with something different than the day to day grind is simulating. To me, that sounds like something WvW has desperately needed. Just look at most of the complaints and they are that WvW has been stale, boring, and players are burnt out. Another complaint is that of scoring and instead of trying to double down with “Last Stand”, I say remove it for a day. Tyler himself said in the “seasons thread” that there been a permanent population drop after each season. That’s burn out and it’s been irreversible to our WvW population.
For the topic of the “Golem Week” last year, that was fun for a short time. TS was very rowdy the first hour and a half especially. We were on “home bl” and defending Garri from 50 Omegas with 50 Omegas was hilarious. After a few hours though, the “newness” began to wear off. Then there was threads and post after post from players asking for it to be turned off already the next day. That’s why I’m thinking just one day a week may be the sweet spot for WvW events.

No, it’s not dangerous, it’s healthy. That “earnest” you’re asking for is an unsustainable form of consistent pressure to perform day in and day out. That fact that players are creating “push weeks” shows that WvW needs to have a rhythm and a cycle to it.

You are taking something away from some people just because you think this might be fun, but disregarding players that have no interest in doing that. Events should add to game play, not take it away. They can add in game events anytime they wish without removing anything by doing things like the super adventure box and such and those that wish to can participate and those who do not can still do what they came on to play for.
I think adding any changes that are day/ time specific is a bad idea rather than giving players all around reasons to spread out game play and play when it is convenient for them instead. Simply because some people want to take things away from others doesn’t mean they should. IF someone bought and plays this game for WvW, they should have just as much right to play it as anyone else and you may think that " their opinions should not count" which is never a good idea if you want to expand your player base and have it grow instead of shrink.
Ideas should instead be MORE inclusive, not less and never take away from players the same thing everyone else is entitled to enjoy. Fair treatment of players should take priority over " this might be cool" ideas. No ones play time is more valuable than any one else’s and everyone paid for the game just the same. Trying to implement things into the game that do not treat all players equally is never a good idea as it just causes more players to leave and create conflicts that were not necessary to begin with.
When you design content to implement into the game, You want it to be content that makes the game grow and as inclusive as possible, not just deign content for a few that does not take into consideration the very many different people who play the game. When you think about the industries alone that have weird hours, they are ALSO some of the industries that employ the most people in the entire US, so this is far from being a “small number of people” that could be affected.
ANYONE can and does take a day off from WvW whenever they want and currently schedule when they choose to do so. THAT is healthy, not trying to decide when that is for everyone else and replacing their game play without giving them the same respect everyone else receives.
51 % should not be trying to always take away and rule over the other 49% , that is a terrible way to view implement content in a game or anywhere else.

51 to 49??? An outlier is considered single digit percentages. Also, shutting down the score 15% earlier is not “removing” content nor is it casual. WvW is still there to log into. Players will still be on for the likes of LeTroll to troll. It’s simply making matches 6 days and the 7th is fun day. Players can use fun day to scrim, to GvG, to roam, to test and tune, and to have community events, and as I suggested Live events from the Dev’s too! How about having PPT 24/7 since launch has taken away those opportunities for more from the platform?
I agree with the OP. That is a cool idea. Friday is usually a care free day anyways due to score differences so why not spice it up, make it an creative day with no score.
So like a Golem event once a week?

OMG if this happens, well, we know what will happen. Man, my server lost so many ppl who quit because of that Golem Week debacle. It was fun the first 1-2 hrs, not 168hrs! UGH. But then the golem exploit karma trains started happening. Players with the golem buff roaming(was it 200% damage modifier?), and golems with FGS, lol that one was funny the first time or two. But I do like the idea of a day with no ppt. Like a day with 5x the normal bags per kill or something that promotes combat.
Maguuma & A Few alts on other NA/EU servers
Last stand benefits many players that have to work the whole week and can only play on fri nights/sat and sunday
Reset is the most fun night imo. Having a 2nd heavily populated day sounds amazing since we can’t always make reset. But I’d love to see what would happen if they stopped the score for 1 day. Would people quit blobbing around? Would there be more small teams floating around just looking for fights? I’d like to see this done as an experiment 1 day.

Please, find me a significant part of the player base that can only play on exactly one day, namely reset and cannot at all make time or shift their weekly activities to play on another day if they wanted.
Sure I appreciate people do often have work, family, friends and many other activities but I find it hard to believe they cannot ever play another day at all.
That’s without mentioning the people you’re thinking of might actually welcome some variety to this stale WvW we’ve been having. I know before reset most people just don’t care unless the scores are very close as the match up is done. Everyone just messes around anyway till it resets. So why not fill the time before reset (7pm GMT Thurs to 7pm GMT Friday) with something that might actually be fun?
Not everyone is a grump you know.
its hilarious how they are supposed to do something about population / scoring imbalance and the first thing they come up with is actually making it worse every friday – guys please.
A number of people I know absolutely hated Golem Week. I think at the time the feedback my guild gave to Anet was around it not lasting an entire week if they ever did anything like that again. Personally I thought it was incredibly funny but almost like a gag that lasts just too long.
One thing that could work for this is a highly publicized charity event once a quarter that coincides with a “day off” where we get to play with developers or well known A-net personalities. Celebrities perhaps? There are a number of ways in which this could be inclusive or bring the community together.
