I know what you are saying. I think. I’ve had the argument for years now that in order to get more people into the game attracting players from all segments is ideal. Problem is there are conflicting goals. The standard WvW player I run across doesn’t give a tinker’s cuss about loot. Sure, it is a point of pride to get bags from people. That isn’t the motivation. Nice to have, awesome. People are playing for ego. Bragging rights basically. Many games have loot systems in place where people at a higher rank have better gear. That thankfully isn’t the case here. However, there is still disparity within runes available in other parts of the game, etc.
Some of what you wrote up above can be solved by players are by which server you are on. Some of it can only be solved by Anet.
You simply Can Not depend on players to make individual choices that lead to balanced & fair fights.
Majority of players have a strong desire to win.
ANets needs to design & implement a Game Mode that automatically & systematically nutures balanced & fair fights.
For these reasons…Any Long Term Solution needs to be Player Driven…yet…ANet Controlled…imho

If you want to generate more PvE interest in WvW…
Why would you want PvE interest in WvW, sure there will be a small percentage who actually find they enjoy WvW, but on the whole PvE players are just kitten.
Because WvW need people to survive? Just look at how it is now. We’re down from 24 server to 12 and we have 2 that are very empty.
pvers are all guilty before proven innocent. They are all leeches and should not be in here to defile the sanctity of wvw. All they do is run in a circle and kill npcs.

WvW is empty because of the crappy changes Anet has made for pve that have negatively affected wvw. NOT lack of pve players being in WvW. Stability changes, making condis more powerful when they were already stupidly OP even beofre HoT and complained about on a daily basis. Buffing siege, which was also already complained about. Boon spam. All sorts of crap that encourages mindless blobbing and drove away all the fight guilds and GvG people, which massively killed the population in WvW. we most certainly dont need more PvE players that will go into WvW, complain about crap they dont understand, Anet will listen to them and destroy something else, or add something else that doesnt need to be changed and make WvW even less fun for people that go there just for the fights.
All these people who are like “A true PvPer/WvWer doesn’t care about loot!” are ridiculous, as if they’d suddenly start objecting if their bags filled with loot at the rate you can get in PvE. They wouldn’t (ok maybe some would, jeebus this place is full of complainers and people who argue with good suggestions just because). Maybe they really don’t play in PvE enough to realize just how much the disparity is, I dunno. It’s not a badge of honor (pun intended) to play at poverty levels like we’re all a bunch of monks.
It’s the collective understanding that WvW as a game mode needs as many players as it can get, at least in NA. Tons of WvWers play PvE sometimes, and of those, some just go and play PvE whenever they decide they want something they can’t already afford, involuntarily. That’s just a fact—WvW bleeds players it might otherwise maintain because the rewards are bad. How do I know? Because I’m in a fairly large guild that tends to attract a lot of that kind of player, so I see it a lot. And I was one of those people who was like, “Great, reward tracks! Now I never have to leave WvW!” only to be like, “Screw this, it’s taking too long” like a week later and went to go to PvE out the stuff I wanted in a much shorter time. And with people like us, some percentage would rather play in WvW if they could just afford it, if WvW was a better investment of their time. Call me a fake gamer girl if you want, lol, but what I am is pragmatic.
Is better loot by itself going to solve all the problems that exist, real or imagined, in WvW? Of course not. But it would not hurt WvW to have competitive rewards. It would only help.
Quantity does not always equate to quality.
I didn’t even want a reward track because it would push wvw away from being strategy based into “what’s in it for me” … which sucks for growing a team environment.
I just killed 5 with ony ally – open field – better reward for me than an exo.
There’s a reason I play wvw and the reason is not loot.
WvW Player Profile – Top 5 Reasons
Wouldn’t mind having an equivalent level of rewards similar to PvE players, but it’s not as important as the sense of belonging to a brotherhood/sisterhood that recognizes & values your personal sacrifices.
At least these are my Top 5 Reasons…
ANet need to design a Game Mode that caters to WvW based Motivational Themes…like those above…imho
WvW should have different Motivational Themes from PvE based ones.
EotM should be re-designed to Systematically Pull PvE Players towards the WvW Universe.
Very Strong PvE Motivational Themes should be used in EotM…sky’s the limit!
PvE Player Profile – Top 5 Reasons
Just keep the Motivational Themes of WvW & EotM distinctly separate from each other.
Allow EotM to be the fertile & central stomping grounds for WvW Veterans to Recruit PvE Players into becoming a WvW Player.
Extremely important…WvW specific rewards should only be earn-able in WvW to encourage PvE Player to make the jump into WvW.
For the Pass!

One thing i can tell you, is that wvw players havent the same mentality of pvers grinders, so we don’t give a kitten about reward tracks XD, we play for fights and we have fun fighting, our fun is not coming from opening the loot but from killing the opponents.
That’s why people always cried about how rewards were bad and how EotM was much more rewarding?
That doesn’t mean ppl play for rewards, it means they see the difference between the two an common sense would dictate that reward/loot progression should be close to equal. It’s the principle more then anything I would think.
But this person said we don’t care about rewards, then why would we complain when the rewarding is poor? That whole “WvW players don’t care about rewards” thing is a lie.
Sure, we don’t want to turn WvW in EotM 2.0 by overflooding it with rewards, but I’m thankful for the reward tracks as they now increased the poor income I have from playing mostly WvW. That mean less time on PvE and more time in the game mode I want to play.
I think most of us were complaining because we’d actually lose gold playing WvW, especially those of us that were constantly upgrading things. Even now with the reward tracks I’m lucky if I break even.
Why do you ever set foot in wvw then?
It is because you want your gift of battle, then you need to accept what wvw is. Is losing gold for what 10 hours of game really matter that much for the sake of finishing your shiny legendary?
Whatever happened to playing games just for fun? If it’s fun, why would you stop WvWing?
I put myself through years of self inflicted torture grinding away in Maplestory already, so I have zero interest to ever grind for PvE junk ever again. It just doesn’t make sense. I go experience the PvE content ANet releases, then go back to PvP and WvW.
Playing a game for loot/rewards only causes regret in the future when you look back at the game. Personal experience
If I’m in WvW to grind a gift of battle or the wvw armor set, then I should see that my participation is correlated directly to my rewards. Sadly, this system encourages me to do a soft afk.
The system is intentionally set up like this so that people who are playing outside of the zerg (roaming, scouting, whatever) can get rewards too. There isn’t really another way to gauge “participation” because there are numerous things you can do in WvW to contribute to the matchup that cannot be measured through traditional means.

I play it because I enjoy it. I couldn’t care less about the gift of battle, I’ll quit the game before doing all the pve that’s necessary to get a legendary. The only way I’ll ever have a legendary is if they make one that you can get purely through wvw and even then I’d likely reskin it.
I only care about rewards to the point where they allow me to afford wvw without having to pve.
Before reward tracks I used to have to run dungeons every few days so I had enough gold for food/utility buffs, siege, and upgrades. Running dungeons is mind numbingly boring and it made playing the game feel like a chore.
OP actually had fun in wvw, but low loot quantity=no play. Even if that changes, he/she isn’t in wvw for “fun”…just bags.
Like Reverence above, can’t wrap my head around that.
If someone made an online game with nothing but boxes on a screen with shiney things popping out and no other content, would you just play that and cut out the middle man of farming?

Isn’t that what 90% of apps like candy crush are?

Shots fired.
To me, I just am not going to argue about having gold dubloons pouring out of my bags. But at the same time, I don’t expect it. Nor is that the motivation for playing WvW in the first place. Punishing people for their sins – now that is some motivation. Plus I still believe that BG hides bacon inside of their keep.
I’ve always wanted PVE players and RP folks in the borderlands. They provide a very useful purpose. It works right up until there is an enemy zerg that is huge and we need to get a fight guild into the map and can’t. Because cats.
