A possible solution to this "nightcap" issue
Late night players are going to claim it unfair for their contribution to mean less than primetime players.
I’d rather see scoring removed altogether. What is the point of it? It does not adequately reflect skill level, rather who has more players on during all points of the day. People will play WvW regardless because it is fun. What makes it not so much fun is viewing the scoreboard and seeing your server being facestomped. If we are losing 150k to 50k my fun is not diminished when I help to take a keep unless it is put in context of the overall score. Remove the scoring system or keep it so that we as players don’t see it. If Anet needs it on their side to better match servers that is fine, there is no reason we need to see it as players. Seeing the bonuses we receive for taking things is enough.
Ya, hosing players that play at night isn’t going to fly.
Nightcap isn’t going to change really. thats why you develop alliances with other guilds and hope that one of them has a nightcrew or overseas players.
The whole night crew is a valid strategy and it works.
I don’t see this possible of being fixed, even if you limit servers to thier proper timezones and match them up ie americans vs only americans. Some groups/guilds can plan to stay up late just to dominate.
The format is flawed by its own open 24/7 open world design.
I don’t even see how other games could have fixed this and I think other wvw games will have the same problem.
I do think something needs to happen to outmanned that makes you becomes stronger so smaller forces have a better chance vs the larger forces.
However, the game just needs new formats, ie gvg. Which is what guildwars was and should be with these spve and wvw as casual formats.
The only real fix for this problem is to limit the amount of all players to the lowest server population currently playing each map, and that couldn’t really happen, it could, but it would take a balancing of the servers populations and a lot of people would be doing transfers.

To make it clear, personally I don’t give a heck to the scoring, we play on a decent server and we have lot of fun in WvWvW, even if we are the 3rd in a match. All of you above has valid points. The reason I came up with the idea to include WvWvW population ratio in to the point calculation is the many many complaint read on this forum.

USA have it worse i think ? they have Australia / Asia added on their servers if iam not mistaken ?
So they might have a bit more balance unless all Aussies / Asians ramp up on 1 server instead of 2 /3 /4
EU is abit diffrent, we dont have such large diffrence in time zone’s compared to USA.
I think our biggest diffrence is +- 3 hours give or take :P
But one thing is sure there is nothing worse then playing in the top brackets with your current server and wake up to see the whole map is taken and upgraded….
Points or no points it doesnt matter much, getting your map back when its fully upgraded or getting spawncamped even if your the second best server in the world is not balanced and have a huge impact on morale and gameplay.
Solutions dont come easy onthis one, but something has to be done….or it wont end well with these week long battles getting 1 sided like right now.
this is an issue that can’t ever really be fixed, I played another game where the gameworld was open pvp and people could build keeps and houses. alot of those got destroyed by 4 am sieges. its just the nature of human beings and the timezones. even if it was just americans on NA servers and euro’s on european servers it would still happen.
The issue can be fixed it is a matter of what lengths Anet wants to go to do it.
