So, there are currently a few things that seem to bother a lot of WvW players. Culling is one of them but we know that Arenanet is working very hard on that. I personally hate the fact that allies dissapear now but hopefully it will all be better with time. The fix i have in mind, might reduce the amount of culling, simply by reducing situations in which it can occur. But the fix focuses more on other things. Here are the problems that can be countered with the suggestion:
- Less zerging
- Less situations in which culling and lag issues are happening
- Less queue times
So i’m probably not the only one who has thought about this idea but it’s truly the easyest solution.
- 1 extra map!
I know it’s nothing revolutionary but here is my reasoning:
- Having one extra map like EB (but differently designed please!) will divide the players more. This means that the queues will be reduced across all the maps. And outside of primetime, zerging will also be punished even more because you are not spreading your manpower out across the other maps. Bascially, a zerg will lose more than it gains. Because people will start to learn that zerging becomes more and more pointless, they will learn to join less populated maps as well with smaller groups.
You might wonder, why not just make the current maps bigger? Simply because Anet said these are the biggest maps they can make. So that’s where we have to work with. So yeah, having 1 extra map is really the only easy thing that they can do. And who isn’t excited about a totally new map? :O
Ideas that would add to it:
- +50% increased badge droprate in undermanned maps (motivates people to spread out). The karma buff just doesn’t cut it ^^
- Server-cross message: “Commander Siegerazor is in need of reinforcements in the [named] borderlands!”
- Remove JP (or add a portal to new zone) and skritt/centaur areas, plus reduce the amount of water in the middle of the borderlands. Basically, expand the map a bit more with interesting ground and spread the towers in the north. This will give small teams a slightly bigger advantage over zergs.
- Lastly, reduces the amount of players in a map a bit. I know it sounds WEIRD but we get more player spots with a new map anyways and having less players in a map helps to solve the issues as well.
I understand these ideas might be less effective for the servers that have full coverage already and 5+ hours queues. I mean, it will still solve some of the issues but this idea would defy help all the T3+ tiers out tho.
Please share your thoughts about adding a new map. What are the pros and cons?

I would love to see maybe a water themed map in World vs. World to encourage players to use the water combat and actually make it important to get new water weapons as you increase in levels because I, at level 80, still use a level 8 water weapon and can get away with it.
I doubt more underwater areas will help to be honest. I dislike underwater combat and most people in my guild as well. Nobody enjoys doing the Quaggan waternode events or the new “Aquatic Slayer” daily. Anet made a good underwater system in GW2 but they shouldn’t focus too much on it because most people simply don’t like it. Forcing it upon them isn’t going to make it any better (imo).
