Abbreviated WvW Enemy Nameplates?
Maybe or they could just show actual character names like a regular PvP game.
Generic anonymous names :
- Do not prevent salt whispers (we can see names in sPvP, the Esport mode of all things)
- Do not prevent players from being focused or otherwise hunted
- Stifle community building (enemy players are fellow gamers too)

There has to be a way to distinguish the 2 enemy servers. Character name alone would not do that.
Putting together server name, guild tag and character name would lead to some terribly long nameplates.
And stop making friends with the enemies. Red is dead.
This won’t hurt [Much]
Ring of Fire
I’d love to see server names abbreviated to a 3 letter code

I love grudges but… I think I would do the opposite. Indeed, the current system doesn’t prevent angry PMs, but I would remove the ability to add an enemy to his friend list for that purpose.
You get tons of negativity when you roam solo and are not too bad at what you’re doing (killing, namely) – salty PMs are the most common form. I would do something about it.

Also sorry I’ve moved around a lot and made a couple friends?
@Sir Mad
I’ve been playing PvP games for a while and I enjoy the salt whispers but I’m fairly certain I’m a weirdo. I’ve even made a couple fight buddies via whispering so I’d like to keep that. Then there is always the block and appear offline feature.
Well karma will hit you back if you send salty PMs anyways. The last 2 guys I had really trouble with both sent me angry PMs at some point (the fights were unusually long, and they did reset them several times), and both died 10 sec later. Go figure.
Abbreviated server name, rank(colored) badge and guild tag. Done…
Edit: As for pets and minions, Abbreviated server and Beast.

Yup. Was picturing the same. Abbreviated names would do well. Rank could be converted to an emblem like sPvP uses.
So we end up with examples like:
S-for Symbol of rank
[S] BG [GUILD]
[S] HoD [GUILD]
Then if they wanted to allow all linked servers to have the same name:
[S] BG/HoD [GUILD]
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Here’s a simple idea that I’ve always liked;
Instead of having a rank displayed in the name at all, copy something similar from NPC’s. Use the general idea behind Veternans/Champs/Legendaries and their different “target icons” (I’m dumb and can’t think of a word for this) ((the display at the top of the screen when you select something)).
If a enemy is bronze ranked, give their target a bronze border. Silver rank, a silver border …Etc.
For ranks platinum and above, you could also have unique Borders that don’t just display a simple Colored border, but also a unique design (Similar to legendary enemies).
As anyone playing any aspect of the game (pve, spvp, wvw) will already know that red names are hostile, you could just display (Servername) [Guild] as the new WvW nameplates.
Edit: BeeMother was nice enough to take time out and create this for me. Here is a great example of what i was attempting to explain above.

Hope this made sense.
I like that idea but it removes an important part of the HUD. It’s probably not nice targeting the inexperienced but it’s just how things are.
Perhaps actually using colored lettering to denote ranks?!
Or maybe your idea isn’t so bad if they wanna reduce “target the no ranks first” to help bring in new people who won’t get frustrated being focused instantly at the onset of every fight.

I have added a picture to my other post, that should better show what i had in mind for the name plates.

No I understood what you meant.
But to see who is who at a glance in a group setting you would need to tab target through the enemies. Having rank atleast provides a marginal ID on the person whether you are focusing new people or the experienced player who is likely leading.

The removal of that is very much so intentional. As much as people (myself included) like to memorize guild Driver’s Rank for focusing or sniping purposes, I feel it needs to be toned down slightly, or at least more challenging.
This change would also allow the people who have not yet achieved a higher WvW rank from being targeted as soon as they are spotted. (I also love to kill me some “Invaders”).

Well the commander would be super focused then I would think as targeting prioritizes rank in that setup I think. Obviously they could turn it off for players, or maybe they could leave it on?
Maybe to help nameplate clutter:
- use abbreviated server names, henge of denravi = HoD
- remove the tiers of someone’s rank once they hit bronze
- remove ranking / guild tags from minionsCurrent:
Henge of Denravi Platinum Assaulter [ASCII]Suggested:
(faded guild tag)
HoD Platinum [ASCII]
&
(faded italic)
HoD MinionI’d probably bring it in as a toggle like the standard model is for spvp.
Yeah that would be nice,
Something along the lines of
“HoD Invader”
“HoD beast” (for pets ect)
But very importantly have it be a toggle (like press once to have short names, press again to go back to long names) or at least an option to turn it on/off in wvw or something.
EDIT: I feel like toggle is VERY important because it will allow you to recognize the enemy driver (or any other high priority target) with 1 press of a button, instead of having to go to options to check/uncheck the name format which takes a lot more effort and by the time you do it might be too late…
So yeah, toggle for name format would be be great, maybe even help reduce fps drops in massive 3-way fights..
Look at how effective someone is in a full Dire set.
Nice balance.

This should be done, like wise we need a change for minions, pets and Name scaleing. Right now, with equal numbers on each side it still looks like a red sea, reeinforcing the idiots claiming they fight outnumbered.
You can’t fix their karma rotten brains, but you can at least take a bit of wind out of their sales.
Scale enemy and ally names the same way and hopefully you See less k trains reinforced with open field AC because 10 enemies are in sight and two of them are MMs. Same goes for ranger pets. A few days we had 40 guys running from us while we had 40 guys, just that 13 were rangers and bloated the screen. You want fights? Make visual stuff better recognizable.
I like all these ideas….I hope they implement them.
Players, npcs, pets, minions, illusions, clones all need to be easily identifiable individually. We are asked to make split second decisions in combat and it becomes a mess of targeting all the time.
Because there are color blind players as well we can’t just go with different colored fonts.
Player tag- I don’t give a hoot what server the enemy is on or what guild they are from. Have a “light” military style rank icon directly above their head. Have different icons denote achieved rank. Having the icon allows players to identify actual players among the visual mess.
Npcs- The nameplate is fine.
Pets, minions, illusions and clones- No nameplate unless targeted. Simple name for each… Pet, minion, illusion and clone.
You can’t have a sea of name plates in wvw and you can’t have actual players hidden in the chaos. We need simple and easily identifiable.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
