Q:
Ok besides Sanctuary, Smoke Screen and Swirling Winds, are there any skills/classes that can absorb/ignore siege projectiles?
From all 3, the most efficient skill is the Swirling Winds, because you can boost it to a 24s reuse and covers a very wide area, while Smoke Screen had to be present in the exact spot the trebuchet is hitting and Sanctuary has a 120s reuse which makes it difficult to consistently eat trebuchet shots.

For guardian, why is Shield of Absorption and Wall of Reflection not working? And has anyone tested Zealot’s Defense and Shield of the Avenger?
I’ve been testing the engineer’s Magnetic Shield against treb projectiles. It seems to work, but like a few of the other skills mentioned, you have to be in the exact spot and it only protects the toon, not the area. Swirling Winds remains the most efficient skill against trebs.
Well, the 3 skills I mentioned protect the siege weapon. that’s the whole point to not let the enemy destroy your trebuchet or your walls/gates. So there’s no engineer skill to protect siege weapons?
In related news, 4 elementalists can render siege (except for arrow carts) useless.
You really only need 3 elementalists if facing a single max-range trebuchet.
This game is too pro-zerg. Too few wide area AEs that can hit more than 5 people and too many ways to nullify them.

Smoke screen is available on thrown elixir u, however it’s random, so it’s a 33% chance you get what you want.
Anyone willing to share more information on this subject?
Needs more testing.
Ele’s stoneskin will let you take one to the face, but you have to time it right
This would be funny if it worked – does whirling defense on ranger reflect WvW siege? I know it reflects risen catapaults in PvE, so curious if it works in WvW.
No reflection skill works against siege, this is by design.
It’s kind of odd that engineers don’t have any skills to support siege engines. Just going by the class flavor of being mechanically inclined, they should be just as useful for protecting siege as elementalists. People might scream if engineers could heal siege engines, but it’s really no different from teams of eles who can completely block all damage if coordinated. Maybe a low, slow siege heal that would need multiple engineers to keep the machine up?
I agree that “engineers” don’t live up to their name for WvW. Elementalists are experts for killing siege and defending siege. Mesmers are experts for getting forces into (and behind) enemy lines, as well as for rushing golems. Thieves are premier 1v1 killers including Dolyak assassins. Guardians are one of the best for making sure late-arrival enemies can’t get into the tower.
Engineers are basically just a generic AE DPS class. My engineer has over 10,000 WvW kills and I finally switched to an Elementalist and I can’t think of any reason to go back (other than my engineer has the commander icon and it’s non-transferable…humph.)
