There’s still alot of potential I’d like to see gettign Achievements improved with and to let them provide also more content with, especially with the lastly new implemented achievement categories. But I think there are also more possible Achievement Categories i want to talk about here.

My personal biggest concerns about achievements are these things:

  • WvW Achievement Redesign
  • Achievement Rewards/ Meta-Achievements and Achievement Ranks
  • Titles and Achievement Title Improvements
  • Missing Achievement Potential

This are basically the 4 topics I want to talk about here.

I’ll start off with WvW Achievements.


ANet keeps on talking about now like 1 and a freaking half years, that they are working on changing the WvW Achievements. by this time, they have yet never given us any information about it, whats so freakign hard about it to change just some simple numbers to make those titles finally reachable in a person’s game life time of approx like 10 years if you exaggerate it to the max and you play this game ultra slow in regard of your personal progress in it xD!!!

WvW players complain now since two years, that way too many of those achievements take way too long time, and that WvW Achievements feel completely unrewarding – which they freaking are really compared to PvP/E reward systems and the AP you get from all the effort compared to how fast you gain AP in the other game modes.

WvW has 16 achievements, among them being basically just only 1 possible to reach, if you grind like crazy in karma trains for several months for kills or get somehow help from other players of other servers being free kills for you to speed up the progress on the kill achievement.
So lets begin how these achievements should get changed 1 by 1:

Realm Avenger
Currently 6 Ranks, 51AP Reward Total, 1 uncreative boring sounding Title Reward.
Requires 250000 Kills for Max.
Change it to: 20 Ranks, 417 AP Reward Total, Change the Login Screen Rank to let it slightly alter itself more to have 20 tiers

R1 = 100 Kills = 5AP
R2 = 500 Kills = 7 AP
R3 = 1250 Kills = 10 AP
R4 = 2000 Kills = 10 AP
R5 = 3000 Kills = 10 AP
R6 = 5000 Kills = 15 AP
R7 = 7500 Kills = 15 AP
R8 = 10000 Kills = 15 AP
R9 = 15000 Kills = 20 AP
R10 = 20000 Kills = 20 AP
R11 = 25000 Kills = 20 AP
R12 = 30000 Kills = 25 AP
R13 = 35000 Kills = 25 AP
R14 = 50000 Kills = 25 AP
R15 = 65000 Kills = 30 AP
R16 = 80000 Kills = 30 AP
R17 = 95000 Kills = 30 AP
R18 = 115000 Kills = 35 AP
R19 = 135000 Kills = 35 AP
R20 = 155000 Kills = 35 AP

Rewards aside the increased amount for AP from 51 to 417:
Each Rank Up after R8 should receive players a special Reward Chest with significant higher chances to receive Ascended Item Boxes of Stat Choice as also precursors.
With every Rank Up should increase also the value of items you receive from WvW Rank Up Chests so that players get an incentive to increase their WvW Ranks more with Player Kills, rather than with Karma Train Farming undefended places nonstop.
By reducing the total amount of required kills by roughly 100K Kills and increasing the amount of ranks for more AP, this achievement will become alot more doable, is still a challenge but would be alot more rewarding for dedicated WvW players and would reward alot more players, that go rather consntalty for killing other players and seeking the confrontations, rather than avoiding it, so that the Zergs can better farm in circles without disturbance >.>

Points Counting should get changed for this title also. More things need to count towards the title and using WvWExP Boosters should also have influence on the Point Counters.

Killing a Player should net you 2 Points towards the title, if you use a WvW ExP Booster.
Killing a Mercenary/Guard should from now on also count towards the Realm Avenger, even if its no Player that you kill, Mercenaries are buffed stronger NPCs with higher levels and this alone should be worth it, that they should count also as kills, but only those, that defend places, not just simple going around patrols. So only those NPCs in Towers and Keeps that you kill should count also towards this title.

Other Rewards:
On every Rank Up of this Achievement, player should get from those Reward Chests also an increasiing amount of Badges of Honor, as also useful Materials for Crafting, like Obsidian Shards, T6 Materials on higher Rank ups ecz, so that those Rank Ups become helpful on your way on crafting maybe your first legendary weapon later, once you reach R20 with an alot higher guaranteed chance to be ready for it at that Rank due to the reward of R20 being a guaranteed accountbound precursor of choice which can’t be sold.
This way the reward system of WvW Achievement feels more sort alike the Living Story Achievements, where every Achievement rewards you also with some materials or other useful things you you may need somewhen later for something other useful.
With one word. rewards in GW2 need to become significantly more sustainable
Noithing that you receive there should be just useless junk that finds its way directly into the garbage tin of being instant deleted. No, everythign should have somewhere its purpose of beign a good reward for the player and of the player maybe can#t use the reward instantly, then maybe later for somethign else, that will be more useful for the player in a different way.

Just only AP and some generic titles alone aren’t rewarding enough for WvW Achivements. There needs to be more.
Implement among those Ranks new WvW Unique FINISHING MOVES
Every like 4 Ranks there should be one new WvW Unique Finishing Move
That would make up for 5 unique WvW Finishers, examples:

R4 = Bombardement Finisher = An Airship bombards the place after you finished the foe.
R8 = Triumphant Fanfare Finisher = Pierce the dead corpse of your foe with a very beautiful big War Banner letting also a War Fanfare play up at the moment.
R12 = Dolyak Calf Finisher = Let a Dolyak Calf finish you of with its pure amount of cuteness.
R16 = Charr Tank Finisher = Let a Charr Tank crush your finished foe into the ground even deeper to see the radishs from below the ground even more.
R20 = Nebulous War Hero Finisher = a special Finisher worthy of a legendary War Hero of the Mists, who killed of hundreds of thousands of enemies on the eternal battlefields of the mists. A special changing animation thats is based on your equipped weapon with that you finish off your foe based on the Mistforged Hero Weapons beign part of the animation.

Title Reward Changed from Ultimate Dominator to Slaughterer of the Mists

Yakslapper
Currently 5 Ranks, 56 AP, 1 Title Yakslapper.

The Title is good and creative, it can stay so.
But also here again, increase the ranks, up the AP amount of rewards and significantly reduce the required amount of Dolyak Kills and add way to increase the Point Gainage through addign increased points towards this title, if you use a WvW ExP Booster for example or through WvW Buffs from Location Upgrades/Guild Buffs or environmental WvW Event,s that if you do them, grant you for a certain time more points towards those titles than normal to speed up the progress.

Changes it to: 20 Ranks, 345 AP instead of 56
Max Amount of Dolyak Kills required for R20 = 50000 Dolyaks, not 1 Million.

R1 = 10 Kills = 2 AP
R2 = 25 Kills = 3 AP
R3 = 100 Kills = 5 AP
R4 = 250 Kills = 5 AP
R5 = 500 Kills = 10 Ap
R6 = 1000 Kills = 10 AP

Rewards for Reaching the ranks besides of the AP: Material Reward Chests with various items varying from various Materials, larger amounts of Blueprints, Bigger Money Bags and Equipment Items which are guaranteed at least rare and if lucky exotic from Rank R6 onwards, but also sometimes WvW ExP Boosters.

Killing Dolyaks, while you use a WvW Exp Booster, will raise the points per kill from 1 to 2

A Pack Dolyaks Best Friend
Currently: 5 Ranks, 56 AP, uncreative title of Ultimate Chaperone
Requires for Max 500000 Escorts with a suboptimal system, thats totally unable to clearly say, if you even participated in the escort at all, we all slowly progress on this achievement, even without really escorting any dolyaks at all currently, because this cheap achievenment doesn’t really work at all, how it should…

The way how this lifetime based achievement works, should become alot clearer to everyone and all the achievement ranks that are based on it, to make it clearer, for how long you have escorted dolyaks, lettin the achievement not base on the amount of escorts, but more on the time spent on escorting in total

R1= 1 Minute escorted a Dolyak in total = 2 AP
R2 = 5 Minutes escorted a Dolyak in total = 3 AP
R3 = 10 Minutes escorted a Doyak in total = 5 AP
R4 = 15 Minutes escorted a Dolyak in total = 5 AP
R5 = 30 Minutes escorted a Dolyak in Totel = 5 AP
R6 = 1 hour escorted a Dolyak in total = 5 AP
R7 = 3 hours escorted a Dolyak in total = 10 AP

Total then of 255 AP instead of 56 for doing a total of 7 days of dolyak escort lettign just the time count in which you escort the dolyak.
Escorting will start counting towards your total timer progress, if you escort a dolyak longer than 1 Minute!!

Rewards: Aside from the AP, reachign each rank will reward you with small amounts of gold, karma and badges of honor and an occasional chance of gettign little to medium WExp Items to boost directly your WExp to even directly your WvW Rank itself on later higher ranks from R10 onwards.

With this change,s we get eway fro mthose ridiculous 500000 escorts as requirement and change it to a reachable time amount that players can do in their lifetime, what I clearly understand under a real “lifetime” based achievemnt, that suhc achievements count for the time spent with something and not for the amount of having done something >.> which was from begin on the biggest flaw of this and similar achievements of that style to me.

Title Reward: Changed from Ultimate Chaperone to Member of 1st Dolyak Fan Club

Repair Master

Currently: 5 Ranks, 56 AP, lame title, requires 1 Million Supply to be put into repairs.

Change it to: 20 Ranks, requiring 100000 Supply max, AP increased from 56 to 250 AP
Change the Point counting also for Build Ups of Siege Weapons and merge this Achievement with Realm Defender and master of Desaster by putting the two 15 AP into R1 and R2 as a first incentive to go into WvW for some easy AP to get into it
Rename the Achievement from Repair Master then to “War Crafter

R1 = 10 Supply spent on Siege or Repair = 15 AP
R2 = 100 Supply spent on Siege or Repair = 15 AP
R3 = 250 Supply spent on Siege or Repair = 5 AP

R12 Reward Chest = A WvW unique War Crafter Outfit
R16 Reward Chest = WvW unique War Crafter Recipes for new Buff Items, Sigills/Insignias (new Stat Combo) and Runes craftable as Constructeur
R20 Reward Chest = A WvW unique permanent Mini Mystic Forge-Item

Improved like the above Achievements, but as this one is again a lifetime achievement, its requirement will get changed to something, that is based on time, not on an amount of objectives taken like before.

R1= Attack objectives for more than 1 Minute in total = 2 AP
R2 = Attack objectives for more than 3 Minutes in total = 3 AP
R3 = Attack objectives for more than 5 Minutes in total = 5 AP

Going Camping

The same treating here, the amount is basically already ok, but this achievement should like all others get more Ranks, raised from 5 to 20, so that the 100000 split up among those 20 Ranks more and the achievement will feel alot more rewardign then.

Title should get renamed from Ultimate Raider to Tomb Raider just for the cult reference to the video game Tomb Raider.
Reward Chests should give various Materials, Upgrade Items and various rare to exotic Equip,ment Items so higher the rank goes here
While using a WExP Booster, taking camps should give 2 instead of 1 point.
In Edge of the Mist repairing the Supply Reactor, each repaired Reactor Core should also count towards this achievenment

Similar like above, but instead of 100000 Towers, the amount gets reduced to 10000 towers and this Achievement will have only 10 Ranks. AP increased from 56 to 125

R6 = Obsidian Shards and a larger armount of Dragonite Ore
R8 = WvW unique Ranger Pet(s) for your Home Instance – the Mistfire Wolf (if you have C.E. or D.D.E, and the White Deer (without C.E/D.D.E it will be only the White Deer)
R10 = WvW unique Minion Skins from your Home Instance/ WvW unique permanent Undead Transform Tonic.
Touch the Necronomicon Book there to change the Look of your summoned Minions. If your Character is no Necromancer and you touch the Necronomicon, you receive an accountbound permanent Zombie Tonic letting you become a random orrian undead.

All We See, We Own

Also 10 Ranks here only, required amount of Keeps reduced also from 100k down to 10k, AP increased from 56 to 125 too

Title changed from Ultimate Subjugator to Avatar of War
Each two Ranks here you get the same rewards from R2,4 and 6 like above.

R8 = WvW unique animations while you dance in WvW
R10 = WvW unique Elemental Skins from your Home instance/ WvW unique permanent Rainbow Phoenix Transform Tonic
Touch the Grimoire Book there to change the look of your summoned Elementals.
If your Character is no Elementalist and you touch the Grimoire, you receive an accountbound permanent Rainbow Phoenix Tonic.

They should just take the current achievements and remove 1-2 zeroes depending on the achievement.
Stuff like 50k dolyaks would still be way too insane. I got 3200ish after 2 years.
Same with camps where I have 3500ish.

I believe the WvW achievements should be achieveable in 2-3 years of casual playtime, your values are still too high in total.

1st person worldwide to reach 35,000 achievement points.

King of the Castle

This one stays at 6 ranks, but 25k down to 2500 Castles.
AP raised from 56 to 170
At Rank 6, Reward Chest added with the "Eternal Hero Outfit*
Title Changed from Ultimate Liberator to Eternal Liberator

R1 = Capture 10 Stonemist Castles = 5 AP
R2 = Captture 100 Stonemist Castles = 15 AP
R3 = Capture 250 Stonemist Castles = 25 Ap
R4 = Capture 500 Stonemist Castles = 25 AP
R5 = Capture 1000 Stonemist Castles = 50 AP
R6 = Capture 2500 Stonemist Castles = 50 AP

PS: @ Malediktus
Don’t forget that I’m adding here in my proposal also ways to increase the point gain from the usual 1 point per activity to for example 2 points per activity done with the help of WvW Boosters and I’m later also talking about more ways to increase the point gain for certain achievements via the Outmanned Buff too as example.

This one will be like Take everything In Sight, but instead of attacking objectives, it counts defending objectives for its time that you defend an objective.

R1= Defend objectives for more than 1 Minute in total = 2 AP
R2 = Defend objectives for more than 3 Minutes in total = 3 AP
R3 = Defend objectives for more than 5 Minutes in total = 5 AP
R4 = Defend objectives for more than 15 Minutes in total = 5 AP

Walls Get in the Way

This achievement will be handled like It’s Quite Roomy in here.
So 10 Ranks and the total required amount reduced to 10% of its original required amount. So instead of 500000 Camps to be captured, it will be 50000.

R3 = 500 Camps = 5 AP
R4 = 1250 Camps = 10 AP

Can stay as it is with its 10 Ranks, should get added only rewards for R2,4,6,8 and 10 like in my other examples, because there are still 2 professions mission to get some WvW unique rewards out of the achievements and there are exactly 2 achievements left over in Edge of the Mist, that woudl fit for them.
Ressourceful would be for the Warrior.

Add the Title: The Devastator
R2,4,6 Rewards as usual
R8 =WvW unique Buff Animations when you receive Buffs, after this reward, they will look more epic than before
R10 =WvW unique Adrenaline Animations from your Home Instance/ Unlock a set of WvW unique Hair Styles together with a Hair Dresser NPC for your Home Instance
Touch the sword artefact in your Home Instance and change your Adrenaline Animation. If your character which touches the artefact is no Warrior, then you will unlock a few unique Hair Styles for your account and get a Hair Dresser into your Home Instance, which lets you change to those unlocked Hair Styles for free, but you have to pay the NPC a large gold fee, if you want to change your hairstyle to any other hairstyle, that is not part of the free set you get with this achievement reward.

If you touch that Scroll with a Character that is no Engineer, then will have Siege Blueprint Vendor Npcs new Siege Weapons in sale for you with different skins.

Now that I’m finally done with all the WvW achievements where I think which should get changed to become more rewarding and doable in a person’s life time, I want to end this section of my achievement proposal by talking about, how we should be able to speed up the point progress, because many people will say, or did already say here, that even by reducing the required point amounts by like 90% down, that my proposed numbers are still way too high (for them)

So I wil talk now, how players hsould have options to speed up the progress of gaining points towards their achievements.

1) I’ve already spoken about it – we improve the WvW ExP Booster, by adding to its effect also, that using them will increase the Achievement Point Gain from 1 to 2 per successful activity. This will make not only those boosters alot more valuable for players, but also for anet, because I’m sure, more peopel would be willing then to buy these from the Gemstore whese these boosters double your WvW Achievement Point Gain for all of the original WvW Achievements (except those for EotM)

2) We improve the Outmanned Buff, by letting it increase the Achievement Point Gain from the original WvW achievements by +1, which would add to the Buff of the WExp Booster, so that having both together would effectively triple your achievement Point Gain per Activity.
So capturign for example a Supply Camp while being outmanned and using a WExP Booster would net you 3 Points towards your Capture Camps Achievement.
Max requires 50k Captures, 50k/3 = 16667 Captures of Camps, till you have Max Rank.
Thats alot more doable, than the current 500000!

3) We add into the WvW Game Mode a new Guild Alliance System
Guilds will be able to make Alliances in WvW. Once you have made an alliance with an other Guild and you are in the same WvW Map, like an other player of said Alliance, both of you will share with each other your Achievement Progress, while being on the same WvW Map.
Means, if my Allliance Companion for example kills an enemy player, while I was somewhere else, that Kill will count for me too. While I capture in the meanwhile a Camp, that Capture will count for my Alliance Companion too, even if he hadn’t participated in that Capture of the Camp.
Means, so more Alliances you have with different guilds playing with all of them on the same map and spreadign out to do many different thigns at the same time, rather than to Zerg around together, will increase the speed of the achievement progress for everyone with which you have an alliance with and vice versa, so that all can profitate from it to have many different “allies”.
This will also bring people to zerg a bit lesser maybe and to split up more into smaller groups to do more things at the same time, what I guess will also revitalize the Maps then, that you will run more oftenly into enemies on the maps letting them seem to you more full of life again.

4) If thats not enough, then Anet could alos introduce some special WvW only useable Buff Food/Potions that players could buy with Badges of Honor and Karma from a new “War Chef NPC”, which would give players the chance to receive additional points towards their achievements.
Like +10% Chance (20 together if you use both buff items) to gain +1 additional point towards your achievements, giving you basicalyl every 5th activity +1 point more, than usual.

5) For the case, that even this isn’t enough, Anet could introduce new WvW specific Infusions with the same effect of the Buff Food/Potions to further increase the chance from like 20% to say 50% max (so +5% per Infusion Chance on additional Achievement Points per Activity)

If you would use all these things together, you could get the achievements alot quicker, than normal.
