Achievements are killing W3

Achievements did not kill guild raids. Guild raids failed to include Pick Up in their raid, and therefore guild raids are killing themselves.

This is exactly why you are complaining. Because you have no idea what is going on in WvWvW. WvWvW has to face new challenges with the League. Adapt yourself.
Agreed. We had around 10~ PvE achievement hunters in our garrison this evening, our commander assumed at least one of them would raise the alarm if garrison was attacked. Inner gate was down before we could even respond because those 10~ people didn’t say anything. This basically ruined hours of work people put into building siege and trying to upgrade the garrison.
If you’re an achievement hunter going into WvW, at least be cooperative in map chat.
We’re lucky in BG that we could get most of them off the map to get some WvWers back onto the map to retake stuff, but I imagine in other servers that it would be a nightmare

Well, you know what they say about assumption.

No…I’m wondering where guild raids come into this. W3 isn’t about guild raids, that’s a PvE thing. Where are these raids? What server has guild raids in W3??
And I doubt you’ve spent more time than me in W3.
And there’s no reason a League has to include achievements. Why is that implied?

Even TC has queues on most maps 6-12 hours of the day long, but our guilds wait in queues and eventually take spots away from those… less useful pve achievement hunters. Its just a magnification of a problem TC has had for months and months anyway, being that militia/pugs would make up the majority of our forces on any one map. I like the achievements, just maybe encourage some defensive play as well…

Most servers have guild raids in WvW. I’m SHOCKED that you dont know that being on SoR. Then again you’re one of their prominent PvF people so I wouldent take you very seriously. I’ve already stated my opinion on the achievements, my only request is that they maybe add some that encourage people to defend or help keep supply lines open.

Everything you need to know about this post was in the signature.
They aren’t called guild raids.
“Raiding” started as a PvE dungeon organization, which probably has its roots in pre-WoW days. I don’t know anyone on my server(or other servers for that matter) that calls it “raiding.” We just call it WvW.
There are 3 roles to play in W3: zerging, small-man/roaming, and scouting/escorting. Raiding is probably closest to zerging, but it’s still not the same thing.
Also, simply saying “adapt” is erroneous if you don’t evaluate the changes. I mean, by that rational they could throw anything at all in to W3 and we would be expected to “adapt.” Why not put Tequatl at Bay and Jormag at Hills…who cares if it doesn’t make sense, just adapt! Achievements are fine for PvE, but they have no place in a competitive arena.
Imagine if they gave NFL players little bonuses and titles for, say, # of fumbles caused in a game. Not only would it break the game by providing an incentive incongruent to actually winning the game, but the amount of broken backs and necks would skyrocket. Odd analogy I know, but it’s even more odd and out of place that ANet would put these achievements into W3. Not only do they add absolutely nothing to the competition, but they actually make it harder for a server to get anything done. It’s counter to the very essence of organized teamwork in a competitive arena.

Because what you think WvW is, is not the WvW we are fighting in. So as I said, adapt yourself to WvW and do not wait for the opposite.

Actually, what ANet thinks W3 is, is not the W3 we are fighting on. It’s not PvE. If they think it is they have some major issues to work out with reality.
Original intentions don’t mean squat when god and all creation are telling you something different.

I think the biggest problem is the fact they were put in the living story tab. Its like they wanted to get more people interested in WvW that normally only PvE or PvP. This is understandable but its killing the T1 servers and making queue times ridiculously long.
This is really just about you being in T1 server queues isnt it?

You don’t get ppl to like WvW simply by adding some kitten achievements there…
Something to keep in mind, T1 and T2 servers are not the majority. While it may be negatively effecting your servers, for many lower tiers it is having a positive effect. Personally i was happy to actually see heavy queues over the weekend as we generally only had this for a couple hours a week before. Also most pugs for our server are doing well at cooperating. Also to Obsidians post about nfl players getting incentives for say number of sacks, some players do get contracts with such incentives be it not on a game basis but on a season basis.

Even for T2 servers its a positive effect. A bit less so for my own, but for the other two they have increased population in time zones where they usually have less defense. EVERYONE warned people stacking onto the top 3 that queues would be terrible, and they always talked about how short their queues were (which is a terrible lie). The positive side of the queues is that a few guilds have already transferred off their T1 servers to lower ones.

Really? Last 6 months I’ve done more PvE with my guild than WvWvW by a long shot, probably 7 – 1 time wise. Now with the relevance finally of WvWvW, I’m all in. Isn’t that what everyone wants? This IS the end game. Fun stuff.

All the new blood is healthy if we manage to retain some of these players full time, I’ll agree Ques are never fun though. With that said, there is always the option to jump to a lower ranked server who, even with the influx of PvErs seem to still be in the same position of getting their kitten kicked. You get the rewards for the server you were on when Leagues went live, if you have the Gold/Gems and the Ques are unbearable, go help a lower rank.
probably leaving GW2 until these queues are fixed. impossible to organize anything.

Well, if you look at added achievments, they are not game breaking. They make players kill doylaks / guards, take keeps / ruins / castles etc – all those things (maybe apart from the jumping puzzle ones) can be done only by actively participating in W3 – be it as a part of the zerg, lone roaming etc.
I was never a W3 fan, but with those achievments I started doing it and I find this aspect of the game really fun. I try to help as much as I can, not just “leech” achievs with zerg.
Obviously there are going to be people whose main and only goal are achievs, who will not cooperate, but I think they are minority.
Overall, I see much more pros than cons of that decision, however I can see how it can frustrate hardcore WvWers with time queues and incompetent new ppl.
Its very frustrating when you only have a few hours each night to play and spend most of it queuing. It will stop soon enough when all the achievement hunters get what they want

I think alot of the problem is, WvW is a very different beast than PvE, the WvW players need to be more patient and helpful in this aspect. Many of us have been playing WvW exclusively for a year now and forget that its still new to some. On the flip side of that argument some (not all) of the PvE players need to realize that not everything is an insult, we may make suggestion about what gear would be more beneficial, what skills/builds will work better for you, why you shouldn’t take that golem at the spawn point for a stroll around the map ect ect.
There’s going to be those ppl in WvW that are not very nice, just as there’s those ppl in PvE that share the same attitude. Think of how many players have been chastised for joining a dungeon group and kicked/belittled for not knowing the fight or showing up in Tank gear vs. Zerker, its the same idea. Your going to get those players that don’t kick you right away and explain the fights and your going to get the players that have no time for you and cuss you out before booting you.
If it was only the longer queues, it wouldn’t be a big issue. It’s the achievements given out for doing random things. W3 is based around map cooperation, timing, siege and resource management, voice comms, etc. Not to mention group play and skill interaction. A lot of times things that seem insignificant, like going out of your way for a minute to kill a yak when you’re watching a tower, have dire consequences. They may seem trivial to some, but added up it can mean the difference between holding and losing your BL.

I personally have loved it on our lower tier server…it is allowing us to build up WvW and more people come in and find WvW interesting..i’m sure for the top 2 tiers….it’s more of annoyance then anything…where as down in the lower tiers….we are seeing more people to recruit from

Please remove the ridiculous new achievements from W3, they are ruining the gameplay in it. WvWvW(W3) has a very strong community and is arguably the finest aspect of the entire game. It’s hallmark being the level of inter-server competition and intra-server cooperation, tier populations notwithstanding.
The introduction of dozens of new achievements has caused not only an influx of new players into the Borderlands who don’t care about the match-up, but it creates a queue nightmare in which very few guilds are getting their members in. This leads to a breakdown of server effectiveness in which the carefully laid plans and group builds become insignificant and pointless.
W3 may have been intended as a PvE light combat zone, but the reality is that the PvP here is the most competitive aspect of the game by far. Trying to force some kind of PvE meta into W3 with these achievement carrots is not only wrong, but game-breaking. Leave the achievement rat-race in PvE; it’s not needed, nor welcome here.
Hi OP
Please speak only for yourself and your guild / community / server if you represent such. Do not falsely assume all of us share your sentiments, because we do not.
We very much welcome the new players this has brought in as well as the rewards provided by these achievements as it is a right step in adressing the disparity between WvW and PvE reward systems.
Getting new players into WvW is not a bad thing…..

If they are there to help your server win, I agree.
If they are there to simply hunt achievements, then it is a bad thing.

I didn’t read all the messages here, but I think this is the right place to post about Season Achievements.
Dear Anet, you’re giving too much freedom here and by giving anyone freedom to do achievements in WvWvW, you’re promoting PvE players to take freedom of playing WvWvW from wuv community (we all know that BLs are limited in capacity). Since being a better person requires to post possible solution for the issue, here is mine:
For Season 2 provide additional achievement category, similar to wvwvw, but covering PvE content. Since Seasonal achievement doesn’t cover anything new and only existing wvwvw features add a PvE season with stuff like: complete X dungeons, X fractals, X temple events, X world bosses etc with similar rewards at the end of the season.
Here is the bug thing: make players choose PvE or WvWvW season, so every player will be asked “Which achievements you want to do?” and lockout second category, so it will be unavailable. In the end achievement points for completing either of the category will be same, but you decide which content you belong to and not interrupting players who love to do something else.
Thanks a lot and have a good day everyone.

No, I know about those chests. That’s not my point. My point is simply remove the “achievement” value of it. If we want better rewards/drops/whatever, simply implement them into already existing avenues like lord kills or tower flipping. There’s no reason to have an achievement for them.
The majority of player influx into the Borderlands is not for the loot(it’s much better in PvE anyway), it’s for the achievement points.
