Hi guys! I’d like to make a post about an issue that has sprung up for many of us.
Roaming is DEAD or if not dead, barely living. This is a massive issue as many if the best fights in this game for me have been me solo looking for kills and taking camps solo.
So how do you fix this problem?
Well roaming content needs to have a couple of key things.
-A worthwhile reward for killing people
-Intresting and evolving fights that revolve around small but important objectives
-A cool and unique non-linear terrain to roam in
-MONEY MONEY MONEY
So we have our checklist, let’s come up with some ideas now.
-Let’s start with the map. I don’t know about anyone else, but a giant city with climb able roofs and cool jumps and towers sounds amazing to roam in. Maybe have courtyards for wide open fighting and alleys for cool ganks and CQB fighting. If you needed a theme think “giant broken down ascalonian city”
Now we have our stage, now for roaming gameplay we must ask ourselves a question, how do we make roaming worth it? if your like me, when you step into wvw you don’t except to make a profit, that should not be the case here as when you roam you should feel like you are going to bounty hunt and get cash.
In my dream scenario for every kill you or your party earns you would get a bounty, every kill say adds 1 silver to your bounty. When you achieve a higher bounty you’d begin to receive more money for killing players yourself. Eventually you can exchange parts of your bounty for rewards like champ bags and other cool stuff. But the more bounty you gain the worse it is for you because then you may say get 15 kills in a row making you always visible on the map as a “high threat”. But you can turn in kills for loot.
There would also be small altars or things like in borderlands that give you stat boosts for a short time that people would want to control. This map would have a edge of the mists system to ensure constant flow of players.
Also you could go in as more than one person to clarify in groups of 1-5 and would server as a free-for-all style of roaming. These are some of my ideas post yours down below on how to improve thanks!
I like some of these ideas.
Roaming is in need of additional rewards and benefits.
There also need to be more rewards for yak slappers and defenders.
Sigh.
Wvw is not about roaming. Sniper teams are very important, but not the main format.
But you are right. More reward for defend and more achivements, titles should be good

They have to remove borderlands buffs, veteran buffs, ascended stats and foods from WvW first to allow roaming. Zero buffs vs full stacks veteran+major/superior buffs in 1v1 is unfair. This is why I insist on playing sPvP/tPvP for fair PvP combat. In current situation, WvW is only good for farming zergs/blobs, for nothing more. It doesn’t fit Gw2’s “fair fight with equal stats” system. It’s just a gear and buff oriented fight. After all of these are fixed, then we can talk about roaming.
Another problem is ppl generally don’t roam solo and do 1v1’s, even if they roam solo they generally run from 1v1 fights to their teammates. Some ppl(especially from desolation) run from 1v1 then when they have 4-5 ppl they attack 5v1… So much cowardness for my PvP taste. If you aren’t playing a troll thief/ele/warrior that escapes a lot, then solo roaming is just for 5v1s with your non-mobile class.
Before more rewards, I want to see fair fights while roaming. No more cowardness. For example they can add a system that automatically lowers their stats when they outnumber you in fights etc… or a system that scales solo player’s hp like world bosses.
Well roaming for me is for fun I don’t expect much reward from it since usually you don’t make much contribution unless you scout/snipe.
The other thing is you can’t expect a fair fight in WvW anyway, even if I find some guys up for some duels I cringe at the condi duration food they run, it isn’t balanced for 1v1s anyway and then you all have the stat buffs.
I don’t see many peeps run from 1v1 either, I see a lot of ganking though.

They could work on the already existing ruins and improve them, like :
- Adding traps and rolling stones(like the ones in OS) around the area, and you can controll them only if you have the controll of the ruin.
- Giving some rewards if the players defend an objective
- Giving some rewars when 1 or more group successfully take the ruins buff for theyr server.
They could also work on the north west/est corner of the bls, those places are cool but theres nothing to do after you take the sp.
Why don’t people roam in the BL ruins area? I never understood that. How is it different from the city type area the op is talking about?
That’s one thing Anet actually made a change to WvW that the players asked for and then they don’t even use it.

Our guild runs 4-8 daily, and all we do is roam.
Roaming is style of play, sure it is 99% of the time done with minimal numbers but that is really because the majority of the player-base favors grouping up into karma training zergs.
Maybe once they “deal” with all the Thieves, Mesmers and Necros I’ll consider roaming again.
It’s kittening annoying to get your opponent down to 10% HP and then he stealths and runs away.
I don’t think they should add any content for roamers. Your basically asking for more loot and buffs to make you a better ganker. WvW is not about the fights. Anyone who says it is is lying to either others or themselves. It’s about have better equipment, buffs or numbers than your opponent. If you really wanted fair/good fights, you would spend that roaming time in the arena instead.
The vast majority of solo roamers I see are thieves. Ya, thieves fighting thieves is no fun. Either party can run away soon and they feel they are losing.
The ruins are roaming content, it forces a group to split up into at least 2-3 parts, zergs following one guy can’t do that easily or simply could be doing something better than taking the ruins. This isn’t solo roaming content since you need at least two people to take it though. If you are solo roaming you better be able to run fast, have a stong and tanky 1v1 build.
That was the ruins but Anet missed the boat on rewards. Now that area is about as barren as when it was underwater.
Roaming is indeed on the downhill. The only thing left at the moment seems to be people who claim to be roamers when in fact all they are are gankers. You’re not roaming if you’re safely hidden behind 4 or 5 of your group mates.

Truth spoken. The gear and buff power creep has done more to kill off roaming than the lack of rewards.

Shadow arts thieves, PU mesmers, P/D condi thieves… it’s all thats left while roaming, and there just not fun to fight. At all.

MM necro and BM/Spirit ranger are considered AI builds I think… they are very viable builds in PvP, not sure about roaming.

Easy, auto-attack/faceroll builds that perform well and have limited/no risk and a very high reward, usually through a dependence on AI companions for defense/numbers/extra damage/control.
Not really recommended for roaming, though.

I was thinking about this the other day also, I remember playing a game back then that use to have a bounty system, the more people you killed the higher rewards you get for yourself , but you also increase the bounty on yourself, it’ll be cool if something like this was added, but it has to be scaled since wvw is filled with zergs, so maybe if more people tags you the bounty rewards decreases by a lot or something
bounty idea is cool…but if it has to do with rewards and loot then it will never see the light of day. gotta lower gold per hour rate, better gem sales. I’m pretty sad though about the death of roaming. It’s either zergs or “roaming parties” (8-10 players auto attacking bursting down 2’s and 3’s)
